and the Mondeo !!! if I was after a 4cyl car in that price range, the i45 or Kia Optima would be in my radar..they are much better equipped...not a 4cyl Falcon,,

Not everyone is obsessed with stupid interior trinkets like triple automatic xenon sunroofs with computer torque control
The RRP is a moot point anyway because Ford have said they are targeting fleets with this car and this means the fleet buyer will have access to the requisite national fleet discounts and if you're a government fleet buyer, no GST...

The Holden Cruze is sold in some parts of Asia as the Daewoo Lacetti Premiere...man I'd be cut if I brought a Cruze and found that out. I know the Daewoo is a Cruze but still there is that connection.
The ecoboost is so much more than the Cruze but I agree 37k is beyond us and if we had the $$$ is buy one in a heart beat. |

10 years ago the RRP for a basic BA XT was $34,650, even a BF XT was only 2 grand shy of ecoboost at $35,880, now 7 years ago. I reckon that price is about right, and as others have said, RRP is never what you actually pay. As for buying 2 kias or daewoos, neither will seat 5 adults in comfort and tow a boat up an incline....

this is not for those who are looking for a 4cyl, but those who are looking for a large car that is cheap to run. people like you also keep banging on about equipment levels in mondeo and hyundai being so much better but i don't agree. there are pro's and cons to each and every car and personally i'd buy a falcon over those mentioned every time. |

[QUOTE=.FoMoCo.]I beg to differ.

I reckon that price is about right, and as others have said, RRP is never what you actually pay. QUOTE] I agree. Also note that while the the current XT is a few grand more expensive than the above, they dont come with the many features that are now standard. 6 Speed auto (instead of 5 speed man), four power windows, DSC, 6 airbags, alloy wheels (instead of wheel covers) just to name a few. Option a BA/BF with those features and the cost of the current car looks great value to me.

AUIII forte : 157KW @ 4900 rpm, 357NM @ 3000 rpm Ecoboost 2.0 : 179KW @ 5500 rpm, 353NM @ 2000 rpm Have a careful look at those numbers, think for a minute and tell me which Kia/Hyundai can provide the space, comfort and pulling power to match th FG EB... Caravans boats and trailers have been towed around this country by big sixes since Adam was a boy... And some of them wouldn't hold a candle compared to this 4 cylinder for torque and power. What is a "moot point" is comparing a Korean buzz box to the large car that is winning everyone over with it's power and handling. This thing is punching well above It's weight.

the kia optima diesel i test drove before buying my fg was definitly a comfy well appointed, and imo, a better built car than the fg, it was the somewhat boring performance that put me off in the end. so two out of three from a 'korean buzzbox' aint bad as for winning everyone over, who's everyone? the journos? hmm, well when they bag a falcon theyre imbeciles and dont know what theyre talking about, but say something nice, and all of a sudden its gods truth? convenient isnt it... the first drive by a member from this forum was decidedly negative. look, im a fan of the ecoboost, and i hope it can be the savour for the falcon, but to say its better than its competition because of things that noone would generally do with it anyway is clutching at straws. imports have come a hell of a long way in the last 10-15 years, and it is just pure ignorance (and damn near bordering on racism) to dismiss them purely based on the badge on it. |

To me its interesting that the 2L Ecoboost in the Falcon is rated at 179KW, but the same engine in the FWD LW Focus ST is 184KW?

all the people going on about how good a Hyundai is, hHave you actually driven a new one properly back to back with its competitors? they are cheap for a reason.
All the fancy tech and gadgets cant mask its shortcomings.

I have nothing against buying cars made in South Korea (if they were made in North Korea, things would be different). It's just that Korean cars haven't done a thing to impress me.

@nsyg8a calling it racism is a bit harsh .....
So I hate the Americans because I didn't buy a dodge or s Chrysler? I can see the logic in that...oh hanng on I brought a Ford .... Or was it that some of these brands have poor write ups from actual users or very poor reliability history or the dealers wouldn't let me take a car for a drive? 4 years ago I didnt but a Holden because at the time many of their models were built in the Daewoo factory...with lots of input from Holden... This time it was pretty much the dealer and Leaseplan's calculator that decided it. Even the Ecoboost would have cost me about another $2000 a year. Which is less than the extra paid for the Ecolpi. Isn't it racism to tar a group of people with the same brush? Ie all those who didn't but a brand simply because of the brand....? Hymmm I must hate the British for not buying a TVR...or Aston... |

@nsyg8a calling it racism is WAY harsh .....
Ford have now presented us with a great range of engines for the Falcon and its FPV versions. SC V8, 310 Kw turbo 6, 270 Kw Turbo 6, Inline 6, Ecolpi 6, and now EB4 and yet we still have the "textbook experts" doing the bleating. No they don't have some of the very latest electronmic gizzmo's that some of the imports do but then again the imports don't have many of the attributes offerred by the Falcon either and most of the imports don't have their suspension tuned for Aust / N.Z. roads either.
