Seems pretty i'll informed to call this car a "cash grab" without knowing all the facts..
HSV are entitled to make a profit as much as anyone else, nobody has the right to dictate what margins they make, the market will determine that by either buying it or not..

Maybe HSV is getting a bit scared of a little FG XR6T stealing its thunder ! ... The F6 will be better again.

$139K for a Commodore? :togo:

don"t be so sure there better cars ,i have a friend who has a 2007 M5 and with the gas guzzling and oil burning issues plus failure to run on occasion issues ,he told me he would love to have his money back if it were possible

Oh I'm not saying they're better cars. I was merely making the point that if you had $220k, would you really spend it on a Corvette when there're so many other fantastic cars available for the same money? Same point with the HSV W427.

Yes but are they large Australian built 4 door sedans..? There's allways going to be something with better numbers, but many people have family's to consider too.. a small cramped 2 door coupe wont do..
Don't underestimate the loyalty to the large Aussie V8 Sedan..

In its native market with its incredibly low price (~75K) it is the ultimate supercar bargain. I can see the appeal, especially its insane performance. $220K really takes the shine off it.

No doubt if it was even sub $100k it would be a super performance bargain, and in America that is why it's so popular. If it cost $220k in america, would it be the cult hero it currently is?

Makes the 05/06 Ford GT with its US $160K RRP look like a relative bargain.

Mmmmmm GT supercar :sm_drool:

Yeah I'd go the C63 over a W427. Better resale too.

They had an article about the W427 in the Herald Sun today, apparently the blow out to $170K was due to the Aussie dollar being so strong against the US dollar, and that majority of the parts are from the US. If this doesnt make sense to you, you are not alone.

You would think not but I have quite a few clients that have expensive european cars that tell me the 'sales' experience it's not much different to when they had their Falcon or what have you. I love the idea of a black AMG C63 but I was going to go out on a limb and get a white one when the time comes Apparently I've been told however that I'm jumping the gun and I have to get my wifes's C-Class Merc first. She wouldn't buy the idea that the C63 was actually for her :

Default 500HP HSV W427 to cost $150K

http://www.carcentral.com.au/2008062...7-concept.html

Damn..they're gonna build 427 of these but who's gonna pay that much..seriously..ok it has an LS7 but there's so many better cars.

I'd rather wait to see how the new GTR shapes up..what about a RHD converted Corvette if its LS engines that tickle your fancy.. but a HSV commodore??? will probably be worth half that next year.

Definatelly will sell... There are always people out there looking to stand out. Thus, given the price tag (along with a decent car), the vehicle will be exclusive....On top of that it will have the tag as the fastest 4 door production sedan built in Australia...

427 * $150,000 = $64,050,000

Wonder how much profit they'll make on it.

I bet they use that 427 coupe (one of two only) selling for nearly 900 large as a selling point! They will be a real weapon, but 150K is alot of money.

Still guys, if FPV brought out a limited edition of GTHOs making the same power as that HSV, many would be snapped up straight away, and thats probably what has happened already with the HSV. I hope it does do well so we do see a GTHO return!
Many went crazy with the cobra, I wonder how many were put away and stored and will not be driven?? Never mind a HO..

Only $150,000. Think I’ll have two.

Personally, I think the people at HSV need to be drug tested. WTF are they on?

why everyone crying over the price? Fact is if ford released a GT-HO at that price point and it actually had performance to match ford nuts would be falling over themselves to buy it if they could afford it.

Finally someone with the stones to mention the truth. Anyone who would by a Bimmer or Merc over the W427 is not the intended market for this car. This is a car for Holden/HSV nuts with the dollars to back them up. Ford fans could only be so lucky.
