I think ford have done a good job on the facelift, given that they have little money to spend. The Shape of the terri is good anyway.

Did people really expect a bran new terri anyway? Fords model cycles last 6 - 10 years so we are not due for an all new one untill 2010 at least....

What is keeping people interested in it?
As I said it would been better to either release a decent update or hold off completely till next year. There is no sympathy in the car industry, it is cut throat, now more than ever, to keep buyers interested the car maker needs to offer them something. At the moment Ford isn't doing that with the Territory. It has so much potential.

I don't want to upset anyone but I will be completley honest - I wanted a Territory (6spd AWD ghia) when we started the new car search - but it will be the wifes car so her decision. She wants the RAV4 V6 - more power, lighter, almost just as big inside (the new models have really grown) and in the real world gets about 12L/100km. The Territory on the other hand is getting 15-18L/100km around the city (where she does all her driving). Its hard to argue with her when presented with these facts. It would have taken a diesal or smaller/more efficient 6 to get her into one. I agree the Territory looks alot better than the RAV though. Oh well maybe next time.
I feel sorry for you mate. Choosing a RAV4 over a Territory must be a monetary thing as you couldn't possibly do it on anything else, despite what you have listed. The RAV4 hasn't exactly been innovative in its design for some time now. As for the power, is it as usable as the Ford's? 15 - 18L / 100km sounds a bit higher than mine around town, but I do know it can achieve way under 10 on the highway, with the added stability and dynamics that a RAV4 just doesn't have.

BTW...update is fine but am disappointed with the 4 speed still being included. Maybe expecting too much.

Ford have a better boss than previous years. An Australian, who actually wants the company to succeed.

ED Falcon, AUIII Falcon, Late BFII XR and now SRII Territory.

All stop-gap facelift models while there was a delay in bringing out the real update. It has happened. It will happen again.

As for the RAV4 vs Territory - a decider for me was having a car that could fit an LPG conversion, and still be a drivers car. It changes the operating costs considerably. Are there any useable LPG conversions available for the RAV4?

How can they justify selling the RWD Ghia with only a 4-speed auto?! Would you buy a 4-speed G6E?

Not to mention EA II, XF II, XC Update etc. You could probably put EL in that list too. People should know that not every update can be a total make over. They seem to think it hasn't happened before.

lol, obviously a SII on a vehicle should be a complete new design!!

I think people are going on about this upgrade because there was no change from the SX to the SY.

this is the same as the ba -bf upgrade..

the bf sold alright with minor changes.. some1 will say yes but the bf had a bigger engine.. 8kw was it..

the new territory to me means :

-alot of people will be looking at getting a front end onto their current terrys
-with a bit of luck i can pick up a cheap territory.

Not really the same :P

The BF/ BFII update was not just 8kw it was a much smoother & more responsive Engine & much Improved gearbox than before.

It also had better sound proofing measures along with Trim & External Appearance updates.

As far as I am aware the New Terra has only Visual Updates.

bf to bfii was a exterior change. The BF and BFII had the euro 4 update and the new 4 speed auto.

I did say the BF & BFII & not BF to BFII Update :P

However 18 months or so ago when I was looking at getting my Current Vehicle (BFII) I did research what was New about the BFII & while I cannot remember all the Details I do Remember was an Article I came across on the Net outlining all the Differances & it was more than just an Exterior Cosmetic Change, BF to BFII.

I know in the XR's the trim was changed a bit & the Instrument Background.
Also think the Rims were new for BFII on XR's

Think also DSC was offered on BFII though not sure on that one.

That does beg the observation though - the changes from BF to BFII amount to about the same as the changes from SY to SYII - nose plastics, interior trim, wheels, mirror indicators (oops, that last one got through my BS filter....).

I don't see the problem. Or was there a thread deriding the BFII as a plastics-and-colours overhaul as well?

I wonder if the AUIII or the ED copped this treatment too?

Paxton, yeah your right mixing my numbers up all over the place.

Luke_P - Yeah the BFII was criticised and was a failure etc. But then you get people whinging about no update etc. You will never make everyone happy.

the only failure with the BFII was the retarded two tone XR6/8 sideskirts and bumpers etc.

Some people like the change, while others dont (mind you that was only on the very last of the BFII as the design guys got in trouble for not doing it when the BFII was released). Personally I think some colours work with the two tone while others don't.
