Yea, that's not what's happening... AstraZeneca is the company's name, Vaxzevria is the vaccine's commercial/brand name. The 'AstraZeneca Covid-19 Vaccine' was purely just a working name while it was going through all of the hoops it needed to go through. Same thing happened with Pfizer's vaccine (commercially known as Comirnaty). Calling the AZ vaccine 'AstraZeneca' would be like calling Milo 'Nestle'...

Just relaying what the medical staff told me. But what you say makes sense. Maybe they are attempting to drop the AZ reference by referring to it as Vaxzevri. Got home to see they had 2 attempts at rebooking our 2nd shots too. Multiple confusing emails. |

Made a call to my GP today to book an appointment to have a chat about C19 Vaccination and potentially receiving my first shot and can’t get in until the second week of October.
Considering all the talk of let’s get this done, I’m surprised the appointment seemed to have no level of priority in the scheme of things. I’m in no rush, but with the Politics of the current Vic situation it wasn’t the response I was expecting. |

She tried to rebook, but the system thought she'd already had her first and wouldn't let her reschedule before the 3 week minimum. She also couldn't cancel the appointment as it was in the past. Went to a walk-in clinic and they told her they couldn't give it to her because according to the system she already had it. She tried to explain what had happened and they looked at her with a side-eye kind of dubiousness like they were dealing with their average Pfizer addict trying to hustle her next fix... |

Tried hotdoc? They specifically list covid vaccines by type and make it possible to book just for that, just search there and look for an appointment with the covid nurse or 'chair'.
It's the fastest way to search and book these days as many aren't shopping around by phone with GPs, and most just booking with a state vaxx center instead. I can almost guarantee if you shop around via hotdoc you'll get a GP appointment faster than any other method. BTW 3 weeks was standard for pfizer as that's all it took to get close to max efficacy (3w ~90%, 6w ~95%). AZ is a different beast and requires 12w for max efficacy, but pfizer only needed 3w for 90%. Longer interims were only for longevity, not efficacy. There's no point chasing longevity with pfizer, either we'll get the boosters or not. But if in Vic right now I'd be wanting best efficacy sooner (3w) now and worry about 6 months from now (longevity). That's a long time in covid times, the difference in efficacy between 3w and 6w is 2-5% - bugger all. You want to be at 90% faster by being double dosed faster and not stretch it out for another 3w for ~3%. E: In short 3w for best protection is just fine. There's only debates about differences 6m from now where the longer interim seems better for longevity. In the mean time thats 3w you're hoping not to get infected as the single dose gives only 40% chance of not getting seriously infected. That's a bigger risk than taking time later on to see how boosters pan out. It's not the same as shorting AZ, because a few weeks shortened with AZ means the difference between 60 and 80+% efficacy Last edited by oldel; 22-09-2021 at 10:30 PM. |

I have some questions for my GP and am seeking some guidance around which Vaccine he would recommend for me. As said by Citroenbender though, I have zero interest in shortening the gaps between shots, They will be done on ideal spacing, not rushed to keep State government happy spacings. |

Also had a mate that went for his 2nd AZ a few days before the minimum 6 weeks was up. He wanted to get it done before the long weekend so that he could take his kids to socialise with another fully jabbed household. His GP administered it, no questions asked.

I've got to say that while my wife's (very early) first dose experience was a shambles but her 2nd and my first were extremely well organised with almost no wait time, all the paperwork in order and well staffed.
I think it takes time for each new centre to sort out their procedures but after that it just comes down to how well run they are and ours is now very good.

You could say the same for the rest of the country. We have effectively been imprisoned within our little island for 18 months, yet people are happy to sit back and wait rather than take up what is there. Sounds silly don't it? But you watch, once more freedom is granted and it becomes visible, those sitting on the fence will start to take what is available. IMHO. Quote:

The reality is that those who work in any form of health care will need to be vaccinated and we have already seen a number of employer groups introduce mandatory vaccinations and most people of working age are getting the more effective Pfizer vaccine. Yes, a percentage of those will still get infected, the so-called breakthrough infections, but if those they come into contact with are also vaccinated then the impact is reduced. What we do know from current research in the US and UK is that the breakthrough infection rate is about 0.71% so that's 710 per 100k of vaccinated people - way below the current Delta variant infection rate. Of those, about 0.02% require hospitalisation or 20 per 100k and the death rate for breakthrough infections is 0.005% or 1 for every 200k vaccinated people and that's based on worst case scenarios. We could just take the uncharitable approach and say that eventually, the unvaccinated will get infected and between 0.5-1.0% of them will die based on the current rates in countries where vaccination rates have reached 80% of those eligible. Assuming we reach the 80% threshold here that leaves about 1.12M over 12's unvaccinated which means between 5-10k will die. How's that for freedom of choice?
