So true but some were nice alternatives to the Falcon.
The HQ looked pretty good in some models.
My boss back then had a HQ V8 wagon with mags only a Belmont from memory, loved driving it looked and sounded great with the twin exhaust he got fitted.
HX HJ Monaros, Sandman’s as above.

Seen a few older Mitzi's getting around lately including a 70's Sigma wagon.

Maybe their new cars batteries have failed from the cold ?

So nice that Belmont panelly! My first car was an HJ Belmont sedan. Pretty bare bones stuff inside, drum brakes all round, no power assistance, 173 and column shift manual. As simple as it could be.

I thought that all of them Sigma's regardless started to use oil more early then most 4cyl, i do not know why truly soft rings ? one dude claimed the ring tension was less ? but i thought molly rings ?
But i remember one dude that bought a new Sigma and it started to use oil and had just bought another new Sigma and they claimed the problem solved with his new 1984 one ! it was all BS thou.

I believe in getting up a new engine is a must do, run it in hard if you don't want it to use oil.
People who pussy foot a new engine is the worst thing you can do, as they can use oil.
But i think all Sigma engines used oil regardless from maybe 80,000 km or more say.

The size of the bore in 2,6L was the same as a 2.0L and even V8's with 4 in pistons plus do not use oil.

I had a HQ 173 3 on the tree Kingswood sedan, then i moved up to the big HQ 202 3 sp on the tree Kingswood and the power was a big improvement and it had disc brakes as well. that's when i got bitten by the power bug. and twisted an axle off with that sheer power once i may add.

The thread is about 'cars that you don't see many of anymore'. Not cars that you owned 40 years ago.

Ive been researching C4 corvettes, seriously for a V8 manual coupe that looks cool I dont think you can do better...I want one bad.

They are cheaper than the Ford/Tickford Mustangs and the C4 looks way more bad ***.

Much better choices in Corvette then the C4.
Try before you buy.
C5 is an order of magnitude better.

I bought one of those vans new mid 2004. Blew a head gasket or cracked the head at about 400,000 kms, nursed it along on chemiweld etc until it finally died at 420,000.Very reliable, rebuilt alternator twice, starter solenoid contacts once because it got started and stopped up to 40+times every day

Massive generalisation again there young Bill (Tuckey)!
Had a fair bit to do with the old Bongo/Pregio
Both the 2.5l and 2.7l … They bloody go forever!…
The punishment, combined with lack of maintenance, in really hostile environments that I’ve witnessed with many of these Bongos and still just tick tick tick away.. Amazing!
