why is it when you kill a man you're a murderer,
but kill a million you're a conqueror.

Just reading my morning paper the West Australian, I wonder sometimes when reading news stories if there is a parallel world hidden from our view!
Or the Govmint puts something in our drinking water that only affects honest decent citizens, makes em not be bothered by the Greed around them, this Greed is all around, on public display but it seems "ok" Case in point, former Australian Post Boss Christine Holgate! She was sacked for "allegedly" giving gifts of Cartier watches to senior level staff "brown noses" if you ask me. I think the watches were valued at $20k. Why is it that she was yesterday rewarded, firstly for using her discretion as the boss lady, then being removed from her position? She was awarded $1,000,000 dollars as a taxable employment termination payment! I don't like it, it smells! Cheers Billy Last edited by slowsnake; 05-08-2021 at 11:38 AM. Reason: Misspelt |

Why is it that "most" humans think they are the most important thing on this planet?

Why is it that a place that generates electricity from burning coal is called a power station, and yet the place we buy petrol from for our cars is called a petrol station and not a power station or torque station?

Because you get petrol from a petrol station and (electric) power from a power station.
And sheep from a sheep station. |

For the record, I'm an electrical engineer and work at a coal fired power station, so I'm pretty au fait with the concept of electrical power.

That power station produces both MW (power) and GWh (energy).
A petrol station produces neither. It supplies potential MJ or Btu or whatever. A litre of petrol might produce 9kWh but only after it is burnt. Maybe I still don’t get it being merely an autistic shock absorber (a sparky). Last edited by shedcoupe; 09-08-2021 at 09:59 PM. Reason: because I have to think about stuff a bit more |

Anyway, I'll leave our conversation there, because, a bit like a joke that you need to explain, it obviously wasn't a very relational "Why is it?" question.

No offence taken.
We tradies are very tolerant of the foibles of engineers ;-) Sometimes we even allow them to be our friends despite their inadequacies, what with all their book-learnin’ and shoe-wearin’ and big words and that making them difficult to understand. Though sometimes a tradie will get a head injury and suddenly be able to do serious mathematics and physics and stuff and go on to get a degree, but those folk can never really be trusted what with them having a foot in each bucket so to speak. |

I have worked with a lot of engineers, probably more than most boilermaker/welders because I travelled around quite a bit, I was a journeyman, and some of the designs we had to figure out how to weld were atrocious, and of course the design and structural engineers were in Sydney not on site, the poor site engineer, usually straight out of UNSW decides to cut their teeth in the middle of the NT, but we guided them well, especially to the wet mess Cheers Billy Last edited by slowsnake; 10-08-2021 at 03:23 PM. Actually the best engineers started off as apprentices in my experience.
Some tradies view engineers as no-practical-idea numpties, and some engineers view tradies as knuckle-dragging Neanderthals who take forever to get it, and although there’s a grain of truth in those attitudes sometimes mutual respect generally wins out. |

Why is it that when you visit a public hospital here in Perth, you have to pay $4:80c per hour to a Chinese owned company by the name Wilson Parking?
Nurses and staff too. Bloody disgrace! Cheers Billy |

Why is it that people don't seem to have an issue with walking behind a reversing car?
Yeah, my car has a reversing camera and I can see you easier because of it, but if it didn't, I'd struggle to know you were there, especially considering I'm busy looking out for traffic approaching from the opposite direction to where you'd like me to keep an eye out for you.

Funny you should mention that, around the corner from me recently the council were doing minor sewerage changes, there were 4 different types of machinery all buzzing at the same time, lol....
The ground workers had heads down digging, hard hats and ear muffs, I was watching for 5 minutes just waiting for an accident Cheers Billy |

I’m trying to book a function centre or community hall for - you guessed it - a function, but do you think I can get an idea of cost(s) and availability ?
Emails, inspection visits, phone calls. It’s not for a bikie orgy so why is it so difficult to get answers ??? If I’m asked a question about supply of goods and / or services I either supply a comprehensive answer or make sure that one is supplied pronto. I guess other people are different ... |

some people just can not drive.....
Hot on the heals of the farmer running into his own culvert comes this "aledged" trade guy who didn't have a clue, he hooks himself onto the upper hinge pin and decides no I won't stop, I'll keep going and rip apart the custom wooden gate and stonework. Owner is furious and not a cheap fix. Geeze, those magnets I stick in the walls work great.
