Doesn’t it kill the virus, though? Surely the pubs could mist their air with pure ethanol.

NSW/VIC
NSW records a much higher 804 cases in the current period and the 10-day average growth rate increases to 1.1235 (from 1.0699) while the actual line moves just above the predictive trend line.

VIC records 1,1189 cases in the current period and the 10-day average growth rate decreases to 0.9956 (from 1.0183) while the actual line remains below the predictive trend.

Overlay…

Week 22 in Victoria ended today with 119,997 cases to date compared to 20,147 at the same point of the 2020 outbreak and 74,794 for the NSW 2021 outbreak. Weekly case numbers see Victoria with just over 5x more cases than NSW last week and overall case numbers for Victoria are up by 97 on last week. Note that we are comparing historical data for NSW with current data for Victoria as NSW is about 3.5 weeks ahead.

Data valid as at 00:00 GMT December 13th 2021.

Note: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting.

1,826 new cases for Australia and 2 deaths so the CMR is 0.913%.

101 new cases for NZ and 1 death so CMR is 0.362%.

The UK had 53,953 cases yesterday and 38 deaths for a CMR of 1.3477%.

114,595 new cases in the USA yesterday and 720 deaths sees CMR at 1.609%.

Other notable points:

Europe passes 78M cases;

Only -
Denmark (7,799)

.... recorded new highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

No countries move above the 90th percentile for the 10 day period and none drop below.

The current fortnight of UK data for cases and elapsed mortalities has finished.

There were 623,106 cases in the period to 27/11 and 1,715 deaths between 29/11 and 12/12 for a CMR of 0.275% which is a lot lower than the previous period which was 0.371%. Case numbers, however, are up by 72k (13%) over the previous period so there will be some flow on.

Thus, in the 135 days since 'freedom day' they have totalled 4,628,857 cases and 16,856 deaths for an overall CMR of 0.364% which is below the 0.378% at day 120.

Here it is graphed - note that the base column at the end is the 2 week period prior to freedom day.

To put that into an Australian perspective:
If we had similar CMR and case rates to the UK we'd have about 13M cases and 47.3k deaths per annum.

they say immunity starts declining at 6 months (which for me is today) and qld borders have just opened so it seemed like the sensible decision to get a booster. qld is about to get ****ed up i think.

I wonder if pcr testing will become common prior to getting vaccinated. We may not need boosters that frequently then. My immune system needs to calm the **** down.
Side note but why are you awake at 3am?

So here we go again, I can't put a link up from my WA morning paper as I am not an online subscriber!
I know if I take a photo from paper and put it up here that you lot don't like that either, so I will hand copy verbatim a condensed version, along with reporters names!

QUOTE.
Peter Law, Josh Zimmerman & Fiona Fiore.

Contact tracers are racing to identify anyone who may have been exposed to three truck drivers who tested positive to Covid-19 after spending time I'm WA last week.

Genomic sequencing on Wednesday expected to reveal whether the cases were Delta, or the more transmissible Omicron variant.

Two fully vaccinated truck drivers in their 30's entered WA together from SA in the early hours of Thursday December 9th. They returned a negative PCR test before arrival and undertook a rapid antigen test at the border, which also came back negative.

They spent 3 days in WA before returning to SA on Saturday December 11th while on route to NSW.
They were swabbed again on Sunday and on Tuesday, SA health authorities informed their counterparts in WA that both drivers had tested positive to Covid-19.
So it is possible both men were infectious during their 3 days in Western Australia Health Minister Roger Cooke said.

END QUOTE.

So we haven't even opened our borders yet and fully vaccinated drivers are bringing the Covid-19 virus across our border?
What's going to happen when we do open up?....I just don't think we can stop the spread here in WA once our borders open for good, if these both pre-tested and fully vaccinated people entered WA and walked around Perth visiting multi venues then we here are goners!

Cheers Billy

Looks like someone put Viagra in the graph water!

QR Check-in’s for NSW still work as before, in case anyone was wondering. Mask wearing in the Asquith-Pennant Hills area seemed up today. Perhaps a response to the case load.

The way I read that is that as they tested negative before and upon entering WA they must have caught it whilst in WA.

Possibly from people running around WA with a 'cold' but not been tested?

My mum got her booster shot last week. Her first two shots were AZ, this one was Pfizer.

Whilst she's not experiencing the effects you are, leesa, her arm was a lot sorer with the third shot than it was with the first two. She basically had no side effects from the first two shots.

Talking to a few others who have also had their 3rd shot, mum found that was a pretty common observation.

My bro in law had his Moderna booster in the US. Lethargy, chills and aches were the side effects for a couple of days.

Since we last looked at the case numbers globally (a bit over 4 weeks ago) there have been 19M cases (+7.3%) and 264.5k deaths (+5.0%) which would suggest that the case mortality rate is on the decline. Indeed, the global average has dropped from 2.021% to 1.964% which is a good sign.

It's not been universally good though.

To digress for a moment. Yesterday was roughly day 654 of the pandemic so the 37 days since we last looked at the data is 5.7% of the total so the case growth rate is still above the average growth rate.

There are countries that have had more than their fair share of case growth this last month including these which have all grown case numbers by >20%:

Singapore - 20.4%
Dominica - 20.7%
Caribbean Netherlands - 21.0% (albeit off very low numbers)
Finland - 21.5%
Isle of Man - 21.7%
Switzerland - 22.0%
Andorra - 22.4%
Greece - 22.5%
Czechia - 22.7%
Australia - 22.5%
Croatia - 23.8%
Netherlands - 24.3%
Barbados - 25.5%
Hungary & Ireland - 25.8%
Germany & Trinidad - 27.6%
Iceland - 27.7%
Belgium - 27.8%
South Korea - 28.1%
Austria - 28.4%
Denmark - 29.4%
Lichtenstein - 32.3% (off low numbers)
Vietnam - 32.9%
Slovakia - 33.7%
Channel Islands & Norway - 34.0%
Anguilla - 34.7% (off low numbers)
Faeroe Islands - 41.6% (off low numbers)
New Zealand - 42.9%
Laos - 48.7%
Greenland - 54.2% (off low numbers)
Cayman Islands - 66.4% (off low numbers)

Of more importance are those countries where mortalities increased by more than 15% over the period and these include: (note that the ones in blue also appeared in the high case growth numbers above)

Armenia - 15.0% with vaccination rates ~15%;
Serbia - 15.0% with a vaccination rate of 57.9%
Russia - 15.4% with a vaccination rate of 47.1%
Bulgaria - 15.8% with vaccination rates ~25%;
Greece - 16.3% with a vaccination rate of 73.1%;
Congo - 17.3% with vaccination rates <1%;
Finland - 18.0% with a vaccination rate of 87.2%;
Croatia - 19.0% with a vaccination rate of 54.2%;
Georgia - 19.3% with a vaccination rate of 30.9%;
Norway - 19.2% with a vaccination rate of 84.8%;

got to love the health ministers slide of hand, they had it before...it's all NSW fault.
nothing to see here.

Due to the 'simplification' of NT Border Entry rules that come into effect on the 20th December, my employer (an others) will now have to fly me and the rest of the crew into Darwin two weeks prior to our joining ship, they will then have to fork out for CBD Hotel accommodation and expenses for the 14 days + 14 extra days wages...this now makes our swing away 7 weeks long instead of 5 with only 3 weeks at home before heading back to work lol.

It was way simpler and cheaper for my employer BEFORE 'simplification'

On the plus side we will have freedom of movement for the the 14 days as long as we stay in the Greater Darwin area, no Howard Springs.

Border restrictions change from 20 December 2021.

Anyone who is fully vaccinated can enter the Northern Territory without having to quarantine.

You must:

1. Complete a Border Entry Form before arriving in the NT

2. Have a negative PCR test up to 72 hours before arriving in the NT and be able to show proof of the result on arrival

3. Have a PCR test within 72 hours after arriving in the NT

4. Have a PCR Day test on Day 6 after arriving in the NT

5. Stay within an approved high vaccination zone for 14 days.

6. Alice Springs, Katherine and Greater Darwin are approved high vaccination zones.

7. Use the G2G Now app and stay in a location that has reliable access to 4G internet connection.

Chairman's Award: Chairman's Award - Issue reason: Your outstanding contributions to this community have not gone unnoticed. IN my view you are a worthy recipient of the (rarely used) Chairman's Award.

What a hassle! If the NT government insist on absolutely knowing where you are at all times in this period, I hope they have the decency to deliver three squares daily, including fish & chips on Fridays.

With NSW’s rampant surge in cases, I can’t help feel it’s only a matter of time before SA and TAS pull up the drawbridge again.
