Due to the 'simplification' of NT Border Entry rules that come into effect on the 20th December, my employer (an others) will now have to fly me and the rest of the crew into Darwin two weeks prior to our joining ship, they will then have to fork out for CBD Hotel accommodation and expenses for the 14 days + 14 extra days wages...this now makes our swing away 7 weeks long instead of 5 with only 3 weeks at home before heading back to work lol.

It was way simpler and cheaper for my employer BEFORE 'simplification'

On the plus side we will have freedom of movement for the the 14 days as long as we stay in the Greater Darwin area, no Howard Springs.

Vax requirement to enter non essential retail in Vic (except hair and beauty services ) has been removed.

But masks remain in indoor retail . Can't help but think the spike in NSW has caused the back flip.

I'm up working out of Darwin at the moment and don't head home until the 11th Jan, hopefully something is in place before we are due back.

Interesting thing is we have been travelling up to Darwin on essential worker exemptions since this thing first started, I and my crew where working out of Darwin when the pandemic kicked in in Aus and we all did around 85 days straight away from home while the exemptions where worked out and put in place, now with the latest changes all existing exemptions are voided from the 20th………back to the negotiation table for a lot of industries.

We recently had a series of bushfires here in Southern WA, the fires were around the Margaret River area, long way from where I live in Perth, but, I could "taste" the smoke in the air, sounds odd but I mentioned it to my GP this week, he agreed that I was smelling and tasting particulate matter!
I was told to stay indoors due to my poor lung health, made me wonder about bushfire pollutants and Covid-19, I found this article on the matter!

NSW records a higher 1,742 cases in the current period and the 10-day average growth rate increases to 1.2600 (from 1.2046) while the actual line is now well above the predictive trend line. That’s also the first day where NSW numbers have been higher than Victoria since September 26th.



VIC records 1,622 cases in the current period and the 10-day average growth rate increases to 1.0474 (from 1.0420) while the actual line remains below the predictive trend if only just.

124,309 new cases in the USA yesterday and 1,944 deaths sees CMR at 1.606%.

Global cases drop below the 90th percentile over the 10-day period:
Europe passes 79M cases;
North America passes 61M cases;
The UK passes 11M cases;

Got back to Tassie last night.

The new entry system is devised by some pimple nosed millenial web designer that has the governments ear.

After telling them I had no intention of screen capturing my covid test result and then emailing from my phone they didn't know what to reply with.

Then the supervisor comes on...and wait for it...you really don't need to do all that smartphone crap..just show them the sms on the phone when you arrive.

Exact words were..."just makes our job so much easier if you upload this and that and etc" ...great, I can stuff around all day long on lame govt websites just so they don't have to work?

In the end I said.

Sorry I don't own a phone.....silence on the other end....

Normally when we arrive in Darwin, we head down to the ship and do a handover with the off-going crew then sail out to location, we don't hang around in Darwin and we don't usually come back for around ten days or more.

Apparently one of the sticking points with our situation is officialdom making the mental leap of understanding that when we are onboard we don't mingle with anyone for the whole five-week swing, the 12 crew members don't leave the ship and no one else comes onboard, were isolated by virtue of the job.

Another is the G2G Now app and the fact that even if we are allowed to join the ship immediately and complete the ‘quarantine’ period aboard, it’s of no use when we leave Darwin as there is no signal 350+ miles out to sea so we will be unable to receive the random check in requests.

And then there is the issue that our work locations are in WA waters, that’s a whole other issue that apparently needs re-explaining.

Fortunately, where not the only Offshore company working out of Darwin with this issue, there all working with the NT Gov trying to sort it out, no doubt we will get there eventually

Both the USA and the UK have been taking a bit of a hammering in terms of case numbers so here are their predictive models across the whole of pandemic.

USA

The case trend is tracking upward in line with the higher predictive line and thus on target to reach 60M cases by early February 2022.



The model does show an improvement (at least a little) in the mortality predictions as it is currently trending closer to the linear predictive line but that still means the 900k mark will likely be reached during January.



UK case numbers are trending almost line-ball with the (much) higher predictive line which shows that they will be close to 16M cases by February unless it slows down a bit lot.



The mortality model isn't much better although the current actual numbers are well below both predictive lines so that is promising. downward quite sharply

I had up until a couple of days ago still wore a mask anywhere I checked in but since it has being much warmer and with the beard said **** it. They might bring em back .
