Had a minor surgery in a hospital today and spent the day watching people PULL DOWN THEIR MASK TO COUGH AND SNEEZE. What's the deal? Don't people realise that the mask is there to catch your goobers rather than them being projected into the air?

As expected, mask mandatory in ACT from tomorrow which I think is not a bad idea right now if we can avoid a lockdown. I went back into training with the mask so to speak a couple of days ago

Trip down to south coast GSS for a fish in doubt now. Not that I'm worried about going there but being locked out on return or quarantine. The way the numbers are going there is going to be a lot of people coming back after NYE

Over 90% of the Victorian population are fully vaccinated.

Over 90% of the Covid patients taking beds in Victorian hospitals are not fully vaccinated.

Yup.Same in one of the southern states in the US,all the beds were taken up with the unvaccinated.They also have the lowest uptake of the vaccine.I guess you cannot help stupid,can you?Must be the 5G implant in the vax,as their reason for not getting it.

Are there any stats on the ages of people making it to hospital? Still struggling with the children to be vaccinated idea.

Anyone with kids from 5-11 been done yet? Our 13yo has and seems to be as cocky as ever.

Be interesting to see what they do with the 19yo here in Radelaide that got his text confirming he was positive and then went clubbing 30 minutes later. Likely slap on wrist given he is entitled eastern suburbs brat - would like to see the venue take civil action for loss of earnings

Interesting the disparate case rates being experienced between NSW and Vic atm. Clearly the rates have massively increased in NSW whilst Vic is pretty much steady state.

Anyone have any thoughts as to why this is the case? Is it the difference in requirements between the two states (mask usage, etc) that's making the difference or can we see the numbers in Vic increase at a similar rate soon?

Data valid as at 00:00 GMT December 21st 2021.

Note: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting.

4,541 new cases for Australia (another record high) and 8 deaths so the CMR is 0.831%. NSW, Queensland and SA set new daily highs again yesterday (21/12).

36 new cases for NZ and no deaths so CMR is 0.362%.

The UK had 89,022 cases yesterday and 172 deaths for a CMR of 1.277%.

189,376 new cases in the USA yesterday and 1,280 deaths sees CMR at 1.593%.

Other notable points: (weekend reporting)

Global cases pass 276M, the last 1M in 1 day;
Belgium passes 2M cases;
The USA passes 52M cases;
North America passes 62M cases;

Iceland (325);
Burkina Faso (368);
Kenya (2,844);
Australia (4,541);
Denmark (13,057);
Vietnam (16,325);
Spain (49,823); and
France (72,832);

.... recorded new highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

Malta and Ethiopia move above the 90th percentile for the 10 day period while no countries drops below.

While I'd love to say it's because we are doing something better than the former GSS, I rather more suspect that we will start to see increases sooner rather than later.

Yeah, that's my gut feel, too, Russ. Interesting to see the lag between the two states; it seems that with both delta and omicron, Vic lags behind NSW, almost in an identical trend (absolute vales differ, of course).

Yeah, I did, I just wasn't sure as to what part of your post it applied to. Too many double-negatives in that article. Poorly written and I'm not surprised that it would confuse a few.

On another note, I had my first RAT today. This one was a nasal swab, given to me by my ex who works in a pharmacy so gets free kits to help manage exposure to the staff and customers.

Reason I had the test was that I ended up at our local ED (not the Falcon variety) yesterday arvo after having troubles recalling simple details (ie anything between 20 minutes previous to 3 days previous), feeling dizzy (well, dizzier than normal) and a headache (not bad, but I rarely get headaches). Wasn't sure if I was having a stroke or not. Got the all clear but was feeling a bit 'flu-ie' today, with sore muscles, sore throat and blocked nose. There was also a gent at bowls last week serving the bbq who subsequently tested positive, and since I interacted with him whilst getting a sausage, figured I'd better get a quick test done.

Test is negative. Quite an easy process to go through really.

What's with all the people buying home testing kits at the moment? I'm seeing signs all over the place saying its sold out.

What are these kits being used for? Are there places (work, events etc) recognising home testing kits as being official?

Like I said in another post...with the home kit YOU control your own isolation instead of attracting big brother to manage you and those around you.

Unvaccinated patients could be forced to pay their own hospital bills under radical proposal being considered by The GSS government after being put forward by cabinet ministers

A radical new proposal to make unvaccinated patients pay for Covid-19-related hospital admissions is being considered by the NSW government and Premier Dominic Perrottet.

Daily Mail Australia on Wednesday morning confirmed that the idea has been put forward by Cabinet ministers in what would be one of the most radical shifts in health policy since the founding of Medicare.
