Before signing up ponder the thrill of sitting next to giant miners in plane seats designed for children-sized people.
Consider the fun of watching a bigger-than-even-the-average-miner numpty who can't seem to get to grips with seat allocation sit between two poor sods in a row of three. Consider the joy to be had in listening to some peasant unacquainted with function of handkerchiefs sniffle and snuffle for a couple of hours. This year I've only flown to site once thank goodness. |

But wait ! There's more !!! The relentless baking heat most of the year, the icy cold of a winter night shift inland, the humidity and the sandflies on the coast, the flies, the flies, the flies. And the dust storms. Not to mention the endless procedures and paperwork, the wokism that permeates everything now, the oh no my head's exploded. Last edited by shedcoupe; 07-06-2021 at 02:36 PM. |

Just gets better !
Flew to a regional town today on Rexel. Visited the website to do seat allocation some days ago. Website can’t do it at the moment (ie. for many moons) it seems but there’s a phone number. Call. Menu. Press many buttons. No answer. Try another day. Same. Another go. Get what sounds like a competent operator who does the job and even offers to do the return flight. Woohoo ! Tiny noisy slow plane but the seats on the left are singles. Me like. Go to check in counter. Different seat. Why ? Turns out that seat allocation attracts a charge, and because I didn’t pay for the flights I can’t do seat allocation. Sigh .... Feels good to waste half an hour on three calls to achieve nothing. Not. But I’m paid well so it’s somehow okay as well as infuriating. |

So how is everyone going? It still amazes me how quickly the tide can turn, if only our systems managed the peaks and falls better.
We have gone from breaking even to swimming in it within 6 months..unreal. Question, anyone worked for Roy Hill?

If they had decent rosters and decent food in the mess and paid a lot more than they do they would get people. They can afford it. |

One of my sons is at the Grosvenor mine in Moranbah.
Where the incident occurred last year has all been blocked off and they are restarting elsewhere. They are back underground and from what I can gather are getting everything ready to start again shortly. He was also headhunted by some other mob a few weeks ago to work for them. |

From Google 2020
The company is already well known for having commissioned the first Hitachi fully autonomous truck fleet in the world which is hauling overburden at Maules Creek (the entire Maules Creek 45-strong 296 t EH5000 truck fleet is planned to be autonomous by FY2023), and more fleets will be added in the years to come. These trucks are loaded by five 800 t Hitachi EX8000 excavators and four Hitachi 360 t EX3600 excavators. Whitehaven calculates that the operating cost benefit of the 45-truck autonomous truck fleet, including a planned production increase to 16 Mt/y, will be in the range of A$3.70 to A$4.10 per-product-tonne. Underground, Whitehaven’s Narrabri longwall is also fully automated and is one of the most advanced in Australia. |

Just looking for another 4yr's till i retire mate... I dont get much seat time in a truck anymore as i am Multiskilled now, but we are going to lose well over 40% of our workforce after Jan 31st and unfortunately its the older more experienced operators that i enjoy working with who will no longer be here.

Just touching base ... my Superintendant recommended me for a BMA shirt and a Trainer Assessor Traineeship, even though i only planned on doing FIFO for another 4yr's... unless i transferred to IROC.
I may have to reavaluate my Retirement exit strategy because i have never been happier in my place of work / i have my anxiety in check and a promotion on the cards. Just one more stage in a 4 stage process but quietly confident The Insights they sent me after my last interview were very humbling , i have never seen myself quite in the same positive light that my video interviewers painted me... Peace |

Anyone looking for a job? Come to Broken Hill. If you have any experience with any type of machinery you'll probably get a start. Even with no experience, if you are willing to work, you'll probably get a start.

Grosvenor is flat tack at the moment.
Plenty of people doing 2-3 days overtime each roster. |

It's looking like all Grosvenor employees and contractors will be looking elsewhere for work.
Word is when this fire is finally extinguished the mine will be shut down. At this stage everyone is being paid up until the end of the month. |
