You wouldn't want to be driving a MY08 WRX either. Will be known forever as the 'soft' WRX. Subie did a lot of work to the MY09 to get it back up to par, but the MY08 owners are stuck paying off a car that even Subie admits is not the real deal. And who would buy a second hand MY08 for anything approaching decent money? That's a killer.

well, Ive yet to read any post that beats my 30k depreciation in 6 months.

That depreciation value DOES NOT include any of the premium quality, professional mods. Lets add another 6. Call it 36 grand in 6 months.

Yep 1500 depreciation per week takes the cake I reckon........................ happy to be put in my place

I'm so over it, I sincerely do find it funny. Haha.

for me a BF GT is a keeper though, so although the depreciation is bad, it wouldn't bother me as i'd never sell it!

this afternoon i put down a deposit on a late 2005 lightning stike BF XR6 falcon, 6sp auto, premium sound, nokia phone kit, tow pack, tinted windows with 90,000km on the clock. picked it up for under $18,000! it is a cash deal through a dealer.

he also had a BA GT blueprint, silver strips, auto, 35,000km for $31,000. i was very tempted to get finance to get the GT but didnt want the debt over my head.

if anyone here is selling a BA/BF xr6 with climate control premium sound and leather or fairmont ghia and you get a crappy price from the dealers send me a PM as im in the market also wouldnt hurt to advertise in the car sales section here as enthusiasts are more likely to buy

I can understand what you're saying. I was offered $30-31K for my ute as a trade on the Focus XR5, a vehicle which cost $61k May '07. That's a $30k reduction in the span of 18 months. Although the depreciation rate isn't as quick as your car, it still represents a 50% loss in less than 2 years. That's not bad going! So in another 2 years it will probably be worth zero.....I'll remove the blower kit, drive it to the salvage yard and scrap it like you mentioned earlier on

From a tax perspective that probably isn't such a bad thing to contemplate :

But a dealer will never give you the true value of the car anyway. If you want to sell and you want what you feel is the right price, then sell private and be patient. Or never buy a new car. They will always lose 30% in the first year. If you did not already know that then you have been living under a rock.

Good price for a 35,000 kms....Not so long ago at that price the kms would be around 80-100,000...Being Blueprint it would be an 03/04 Mk1 .

I've had mine a year in January. Paid $46k for a BA Mk2 with 12,500kms (now done 20,000)...If I held off another year could have picked up a 07 BF2 for not much more than that with even less kms....

Financial situation hasn't helped with these prices and its affecting everything. $30K in two years is painful.

But even in "normal" times selling any car in the first two years and your asking for trouble. Don't go there. Its like going to the shops and checking out the prices just after you bought yourself something. You'll always find it cheaper!

Just because you lost $30K in two years dosn't mean you'll lose $30 in the following two. Graph the resale price of just about any model of car over ten years and the rapid drop over the first few years will make you swallow your eyeballs. The curves flatten out after that.

Some cars actually reverse the trend. Problem is most owners have moved on from their pride and joy before they ever see a rise out of it. My old mans EB GT was a perfect example. $66K new, did 100K in the thing, sold it for $26K. He was gutted at the price. He then tried to buy the same car back after coming across it years later and the owner wouldn't take under $30 for it, and I've seen them advertised for more. EB GT, one of the most critisized GTs ever and even that car got a rise, Go figure?

Tex, I think the SCUD is a keeper. My GT makes me happy as a pig in poo every time I get in it. The only reason I would sell it would be to get another GT, and despite the Loss in todays prices, The changeover figure hasn't varied much.

Much waffle I know, But what your talking about is a potential loss. Its only going to hurt you if you have to sell. Are wolfs at your door?

You've hit the nail on there head Ozquad44.....What you lose on the swings you pick up on the roundabout, so they say. Changeover prices are still fairly similar so if you sell to buy another FPV then no problem.

Those that will suffer most are those that have to sell outright because if they don't their finance company will

Yeah that was a good one, I didn't think about that...
I sent her a question and she said she only put the towbar and brakes on about 2 years ago because her boyfriend at the time had horses and was trying to get her into it (he paid apparently), but she's not with him now and only towed the horse float a couple of time to keep him happy.

I'm gona go and have a look at the car on Saturday to see it in person and make sure it's as it says. I'll let you know how I go.

Thanks for your help guys.

I was trying to sell my GT this year, after 11months on carsales, 86,000 or so hits later and no real interest I decided to take it off the market and keep it.

It was depressing to see so many others listing there cars and reducing the prices to ridiculous amounts and still not being able to sell them!!

My decision was that I was in no rush to fire sale the car and that it was way too good to give away. So now its a keeper and Im happier that way!

25,000 for a GT amazing

My wife and I are in the market to upgrade the AU 2 and have been looking around. We are currently looking at a BF XR6 with a 6 speed auto, 57,000 k's and the dealer wants $20,000 for it. Somehow I think we might be able to haggle on that price looking at the market.

She said she wanted a GT.

might be an ex chaser.. no KM listing .. god that frustrates me about a lot of dealers. Usually indicates (but not always) high km's.

25k for that Vixen GT, that's got to be a good buy for someone looking to get into one. It's done the majority of its depreciation and still looks as good as new from the pics.

Live in Perth. Need to sell my Xt BA 03 '119,000k' White, Gassed, Falcon within the next month. Selling it on Drive.com for 11,000 negotiable. Should I be bringing the price down??..Mind you, it's gased, serviced at every schedual, throwed in 18inch Rims and offering to throw in another set of 17's with rubber for no additional cost. BAH, my plan has gone to crap!

It's not just the used cars that are struggling, my brand new G6E-T was 44K drive away and they also gave me 18K on a 2003 LTD with 120K on it. Changeover was 26K.

Damn, should not have seen that, its the right colour and a manual as well.

If the vehicle is as good as it looks that is very tempting indeed, sad for owners who paid 60k plus a couple of years ago though.

I know of several people who are trying to offload cars, they bought new. They tossed it on top of the mortage because they had equity and have been paying the price for high interest rates.

A friend of ours had bought a Hyundai 4WD, boat, big screen TV, O/S trips, etc and just added it to the mortage and have found it very hard to pay off, now it's is all falling down.

My Wife and I went without a really nice car, because our mortage was the focus over the past few years. Well we have been saving and have around 20,000 cash for a car. I guess we are the lucky ones who will gain for someones misfortune.

I am not saying everyone who is selling has done the wrong thing, it seems those who wanted it all now, have bought down the prices for everyone and that sucks.

Thanks for posting the 25,000 GT in Vixen. I made the mistake of sending it to the wife. She rang me straight away at work and said "I want it"

I would still prefer a newer 05 onward Turbo 6.

Cheers
Mark

Oh mate trust me, I know how lucky I am.

I say to all my friends that I am the luckiest man alive. The cars and bike she allows me to have. Most of my mates are stuck in family hacks and we have the bike, mustang, & the XY.

Mate how tempting it is to go the extra $5000 and get something we thought was well and truly out of our price range.

What did you wife end up getting?

Cheers

Very well put.

The Scud is a keeper, it is getting better and better.

A FG turbo felt the wrath only this week - and the driver gave me the thumbs up at the next set of lights! F#$K IT FELT GOOOOOOD.

Made the pain worth it, and validated what I think deep down.

The theoretical loss is just that, it does NOT take into account the grin factor, the joy this car brings.

I'm over it.......... the money burnt. :evil3:
