Same question, next 12 months then...

Any XR8 special editions will stay with the 335 tune IMO. They don't need to put the 351 tune in it to sell them. I'd think we'll see a special in the vein of the 50th anniversary editions.

Simply put:
Who cares about Mustang?
It was an average quality, but strong selling car of the 60's in the US.
I've yet to see any Mustang after '68 that is in any way attractive.

Ford will certainly be pushing it hard, and using every marketing trick in the book to try and attract performance Falcon buyers, but 2 door cars fail fairly quickly in Australia - not even the hype can save them in the long run.

LOL - that was the whole point
There will never be another car like the GTF - or any FPV or Tickford for that matter. They were made at reasonable prices affordable to the bogan population. We had it real good, we will miss all that, not to mention all the fun and **** over the years with the Falcon and Commodore rivalry - its that tribal mentality which gave these cars additional soul. It was also easy to convince the domestic minister for finance to buy one because of its additional practicality - 4 doors , baby seat , even a tow bar if you wanted to......all wrapped up in a 270 - 330 RWKW rocket with character , road presence and grin factor ear to ear.
Track day or loaded to the hilt for road trip - all there in spades.

So - yes , we'll be lucky to see local manufacturing traffic last another 12 months here , and i also think the email traffic here on AFF will also take a tumble as we drift off on small threads about where to find spare parts for our FPV's.......

A bit off topic but who would honestly sell there fpv from the b series to the fg range for a mustang.Basically upgrade it to the next best offering from Ford. The Mustang will be a whole new following thats why i cant see it being as big as our beloved 4 door falcon gt's

Mustang is still just a two door car and that is what will make it interesting for people who need a four door.

Our B series are almost worthless at the moment and the FG series arent far behind. So to sell up would mean a changeover in the order of 60-70K+ to get into a fully kitted Mustang ( assuming that we will get the GT Premium here ? )
I just cant see myself getting raped for that amount. Mustang will be a screamer , but I I'll have to pass.......... Plenty of local performance options in N/A and PD blower to keep me happy with the GT for quite some time.

Something not considered is how much value will be attached to the last FPV super pursuit and GS utes? There will be no FGX XR8 ute, there will be no mustang ute? As for ranger and alike they are a truck. I dont know what I will replace my S/P with in the future there are no sedan based (good handling) V8 six speed performance utes available. XR6T ute is all you have available. FG S/C Rspec ute could be worth a motza......

I'll be doing the FPV Drive Day on the 2nd December at Eastern Creek. If you're at that one you'll get a good look! I'll be having a good look over your GTF!

2 tanks of juice and a nice entertaining drive and that should put enough kms on the speedo.

You know you will regret it if ya don't do the drive day!

Nothing like hearing a group of ScV8 on song and having fun

My son did his FPV drive day a couple of weeks ago with his F6 (4000km on the clock), but one GTF showed up on a trailer with only 60km on the clock.
Probably not a really good idea.
Some other GTF's had only a few hundred km.

I like the idea of around 1500km minimum.

Life's too short.
FPV is over, terry bowe said they haven't had their contract renewed for next year and With no more new FPV sales, I can't see them doing this for the few that are hanging over from 2014. From their perspective, ford have honoured the drive day commitment by having a day in each state after the last FPV was sold. I think it's now or never, so like hootar said, get out there, have a couple of country blasts and you'll be at 1600 in no time.
It's the last time youll have a fully sanctioned and warrantied blast, sharing with all the othe FPV owners makes it even better

There was a day added in Vic for March next year recently. First time I checked it was only the Dec 8 date. Not sure if that means the other states might get one more or not.

Totally agree, Very same reason I purchased this car.

Just cant seem to get any time to take the beast out at the moment. Being my weekend car, my weekends have been so busy and with Christmas fast approaching work is getting pretty crazy. Hopefully I can that it out this weekend for a long run.

Wrong.
My car broke down on track at Mallala while under warranty.
Was about my fourth time out after the initial (FPV day which is sorta lame)
Skipped a few teeth on the timing chain due to tensioner failure & guide breakage.
Car was picked up from track still wearing semislicks, helmet, gerry cans & road twistie rims/tyres in boot & on back seat.
FPV roadside towed my car from racetrack to dealer & fixed issue.

ONLY QUERY... was whether car had been tuned.
Stock as & Ford FPV backed their product.

351 tune might go way your "matter of fact insider info" that launch control wont be included in the XR8 package..........and magically appear, albeit in a later XR8 special edition..........after all history shows us the the 351 was primarily a FoA thing and not exclusive to only Falcon GTs.

Great to hear they supported you like that, I will confirm with my dealer whether they will do the same for me on other track days. Warrantied track and road monster is something you don't usually hear of.

I will disagree with you on the FPV day being lame, it's what you make of it. I race a falcon so I was concerned it might be too tame, but I had a blast as did most of the boys. I pushed the envelope as to what they'd tolerate, and when they didn't bat an eyelid, a few of the other boys followed suit. Needless to say, not many of us worried about autokana times. They were great sports and even gave me a "most entertaining" award lol

This article was in this morning’s Sydney Morning Herald.
It’s quoting from a Ford insider which is to say it may not have any substance to it at all.
It talks of the possibly of more performance models to come, namely the XR6T.
I thought it may add a little more to this thread as it could also mean an up spec though not necessarily a more powerful XR8 could also hit the streets.

Quote:
High-powered Falcon XR6 Turbo looms

Date: November 25, 2014 - 11:28AM

Sam Hall
Motoring Writer

Limited edition model would be faster and more performance-oriented than current car, says Ford insider.

Ford is considering creating a high-performance variant of its final XR6 Falcon.

Ford Australia has left the door open to creating high-powered versions of its FG X Falcon, following the success of its swansong GT-F earlier this year.

An insider from the company has told Drive a limited edition XR6 Turbo is emerging as the most likely candidate for an upgrade, which would likely comprise a power boost and more superior running gear.

The current flagship of the Falcon XR range is the XR8, which receives a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 and standard running gear such as lowered GT R-Spec suspension, Brembo brakes, staggered wheel widths and a launch control function.

The car could borrow performance parts - such as bigger Brembo brakes - from the XR8 Falcon.

The source said the same improvements could easily be integrated to the XR6 Turbo, giving it a similar flavour to the now-retired FPV F6 Typhoon.

"We'd take the car to marketing and see from there. It would be a limited edition product," the source said

"There has been a lot of product launches for Ford Australia in recent months, we need to catch our breath and look at other performance options."

In standard guise, the XR6 Turbo produces 270kW from its 4.0-litre turbocharged in-line six-cylinder engine. The source said that figure could easily be raised to "315kW or more" with some massaging of both the engine and the turbocharger.

Among its options, the F6 Typhoon featured a modified airbox, higher strength conrods, a larger air to air intercooler, high flow exhaust system, higher capacity fuel pump, and a Garrett turbocharger with an internal waste gate.

"The F6 had 315kW, comfortably, and then it had an overboost function," the source said.

"What we might be able to do is mix and match the turbocharger between the F6 and the current XR6 Turbo engine so that the turbo comes on boost lower. They're the sort of things you'd like to do. You've got a big parts bin from Ford globally."

Currently, the XR6 Turbo isn't offered to the public with performance options. However, an off-the-shelf modification pack is available to the NSW and Queensland police forces for use in their highway patrol divisions.

Despite the instant success of the GT-F Falcon, with all 500 vehicles selling out before they went on sale, the odds of a follow-on 351kW XR8 looks unlikely.

Ford is eager to preserve the uniqueness of the final ever GT model. Instead, the car maker seems more likely to release special edition XR8 versions - similar to the recent Craig Lowndes edition Holden SS-V Commodore - before the Falcon is retired in October 2016.

I pushed the envelope as to what they'd tolerate, and when they didn't bat an eyelid, a few of the other boys followed suit. Needless to say, not many of us worried about autokana times. They were great sports and even gave me a "most entertaining" award lol
Likewise. I did most of it sideways. Although when I had finished one of the guys said to me did I think that was fast.
I just looked at him & said " No. But it was fun. "
No point doing it normally. You can do that in a carpark & not get a ticket from a cop.
On a raceway I wanted to have fun like I can't on the road.
