i had given up heaps for an hour, a day, a week. I gave up on the train by throwing the smokes and lighter out the window then bought more at the station.
When i got married and we wanted to have kids i gave up cold turkey when my wife fell pregnant then got back on them 12 years later for a year then gave up cold turkey. You can't give up unless you want to and if you don't want to give up stop giving yourself grief and enjoy them. |

I've been off them 5 weeks and 1 day. Was smoking about a pack and a half of Marlboro Reds by the time I quit. Was costing a fortune, I was constantly coughing and generally felt like crap.
Can't believe advertising worked on me, but I was smoking on the verandah of my motel room in Alice Springs, had just finished coughing up a lung when I saw the current anti-smoking ad where the guy coughs up blood. That seemed like a pretty real danger, so I finished the pack the next day and I haven't had another. Cravings were terrible for the first 3 or 4 days, I was irritable, had weird headaches/muscle pains, the whole lot. Only getting a bad craving every few days now, but the worst of it has passed and I should be right.

The missus just gave up using champax or whatever it’s called…dunno what the pills do other than put her in a foul mood, but hay, her breath doesn’t reek of smoke now and she actually looks healthier….Plus I find it really unattractive when a girl smokes..
But yeah, those pills worked for her…Although I think it’s very much all in your head.

I quit a few years back now. My trick was to count every day and NEVER even touch another smoke. 1 day became 2, 2 became 7, 7 became 70 and so on
Never felt better. Good luck |

I gave up 2 years ago on champix, wasn't really ready to give up so started again 4 months later..
I decided that if I really wanted to give up, this time I'd do it cold turkey.. Now at the end of day 2! |

i've found the best thing since i've quit is not to count the days since you last had a durrie that way you don't feel like your counting down to starting again.

this man speaketh the truth - I was in the same boat untill very recently you really do have to WANT to give up i tried several times but always ended back on it cos i wanted one then something just changed, i just really couldnt be bothered with it anymore - they keep putting the prices up so it ends up costing more and more to kill yourself, cant smoke inside, cant smoke in work vehicles, health was deteriorating, getting up and down basketball court was becoming a struggle - i could go on and on truely WTF is the point was smoking a pack a day, $100 p/wk - gave up cold turkey - cant even be F'd thinking about having a smoke anymore

I'm just over 3 months off them now. Its funny how, when you are stuck in that nicotine addiction prison, it seems so hard to get out. But once your free you cant believe it took you x amount of years to wake up. My fiancee is still smoking and I'm a right a$$. I know I'm meant to be supportive but I just cant do it. I quit with easy way. Best book I've ever read. I highly recommend it to those thinking about quitting.

The money I've saved not smoking has gone into my savings and my tattoos. I can't believe how much I was spending on smokes until I noticed the money quite literally piling up in my account. It's pretty good to actually get a shock from checking your bank balance that's not a negative one!
Since the quit, I've worked out roughly 4-6k in savings a year. This is pretty sobering, as I only make 27k annually. So with the saved money I'm saving for my new truck and getting my tattoo finished. So much better than smoking myself to death!

A mate reckons it's costing him $600/month and he is now in the pills. I gave up about 15 years ago cold turkey. Girlfriend then (now my wife) asked me to give up and chucked the pack of PJ's in bin. Have only had two since. Second one made me spew. Was a hard 3 months straight after but got through it.
