I'm currently seeking work, which is why I have to sell my beloved Escort - I can't afford to fix it up :(

Previous jobs have included working in customer service (working in petrol stations, and working on computers (troubleshooting, assembly, software installation, etc).

Currently seeking work in customer service or the IT industry, although I'm not limiting myself to these fields, it's where my knowledge and experience are, so I'm more likely to get a job in one of those fields...

Come up to my area, thats the easiest type of work to get into up here and there is plenty of it. We also have NO speed cameras, only 1 unmarked HWP car in the whole city and the people are pretty nice .

Certainly NOT unemployed mrs casper! I think it an insult for anyone to suggest that because being a parent is actually one of the hardest and sometimes one of the more thankless jobs going around. A lot of people dont understand that a regular job has the advantage of more of less being able to turn off at 5pm (or whatever time) and just go home and relax. Being a parent is 24/7 and you cant just stop being a parent for a few hours - kids (and partners) dont have off buttons and you cant clock off. So it means that when they are sick, and need attention in the middle of the night, you cant just say that the "night shift" will handle it, because there is ONLY you.

You cant have a day off sick - you just have to keep going. You cant take annual leave, you cant take time off for stress and there are no excuses given for any weakness. These days if your kids arent perfectly dressed, clean, well mannered and well adjusted ALL of the time, then someone will always have something to say about it and make a judgement. So it is the kind of job where there is always pressure and not much room for error.

You really do have to be a loving parent, an understanding counsellor, a fair moderator/umpire, a nurse, a walking encyclopaedia, a maths/physics/chemistry/english/history expert, a walking bank (I am referred to by my two as "Mum Bank" all in fun, of course), a gourmet chef, a free taxi driver (for the half a dozen weekend sports and other social events), an entertainer, a very experienced electrician (to be able to fix all kinds of electronic gadgets such as Gameboys, Nintendos, wire up TVs, DVD players, stereo systems), a financial expert to handle the mortgage, shopping money, bills etc, and a very, VERY dedicated cleaner!

Im sorry if I get on my high horse about this, but I really do think that parents and homemakers are really undervalued these days, despite so much pressure being placed on us, and I think we need a little more recognition...

I've seen it first hand (funny about that)! Mrs Casper certainly works harder than I do and her OH&S conditions suck. How many workplaces would accept dive bombs from children as a regular work hazzard?

I'd argue that. HP/Compaq make better products than Dell.

People I know who used to work for IBM said that they are never allowed to do anything, which would suck.

Citrix has the rep of being one of the best IT companies to work for, but I'm happy at the Dept of Education for now.
