Ours are getting busy, too. On alert for swarming - it’s not the number of bees but the aggression of the forward scouts which is a hassle.

Swaine’s Creek, near Greville St Chatswood, today.
It was excavated then backfilled for a sewer in the teens or twenties, they were actually quite sensitive in the dig and evidence of the Garigal peoples’ activity remains in rock shelving if you look hard. It’s nice when there’s not just a “scorched earth” outcome.

We've been building up some Australian native bee hives for the last few years, basically it's splitting a hive once a year. We fostered out a hive to a forum member, Burnout over a year ago, and drove out to his joint yesterday to split his hive into two. They don't make much honey, but what they do is yum! The pollination difference on our property has been noticed, with increased flowering, more lemons, limes, mandarins, custard apples, etc etc.

This is a photo I grabbed of one of our hives when it was re-queening (swarming) after a split... all those randy warriors!

I think many underestimate the role bees play in human survival.
