Ford are on to a winner and are going to have issues getting enough of these little rockets.

Well, the pics are of European models.
So the issue is, did the journo drive the car here or there?
Would make a world of difference.
But suddenly there's cruise control!

You can't think of this as an expensive Fiesta, when it's really a competitively priced entry into the ST experience. The previous XR5/ST was 35K at the end of its run in Oz. The new ST nudges 40K. Neither of those gets 6L per hundred, and cheaper rego/insurance (depending on your country/state) The only real problem is the lack of a 5 door model.

The real question is would you pay $27,000 for a Fiesta ST or $2X,000 for a tidy second hand XR5 Turbo? I know which one I would buy.

(Here's hoping it actually is around $27K)

I'm guessing the following:

17" alloys
ST body kit
Sony DAB audio with SYNC and Emergency assist
ST suspension
Front and rear discs
Heated windscreen
LED day running lights
Recaro heated seats
Starter button
Alarm

Plus the usual Zetec gear, for $26,990 I think that price is fair comparing with

VW Polo GTI (auto only) $28,990
Skoda Fabia RS $27,990
Opel Corsa OPC $28,990 guessing
Abarth Esseesse $34,990 !
Citroen DS3 $27,990
Suzuki Swift $23,990
Peugeot 208 GTi- ?
Renault Clio RS- $36,490

$26,990 is a bargin

Dunno about heated screen or heated seats, seats will depend on if we get full leather.

Going by the UK brochure there is ST1 and ST2, I'd say we'd get ST2 like the Focus ST.

Yeah could be correct, i wouldnt be sure until it arrives. Although there is only 2 spec levels with the Fiesta so maybe FoA might just leave it (Spec list) rather than play with it like the Focus. Our Focus ST has Xenons and is ST2 spec, elsewhere Xenons are only on ST3.

This car is RHD. Now it may have gone to the UK, but who's to say it didn't go on the boat?
The seats look like inserts with leather trim. So I'm not sure on the heating.

AutoExpress UK choose Fiesta ST over 208 GTi and Clio RS.

Reckon the NZ version will be the same as ours.
Looks like they have specced it up to the max with keyless entry/start, SYNC and premium stereo.
The 27K estimate may be a little low.

What a ripper. Didn't realise the Fiesta ST was inbound. I've been shopping around for a hot hatch.
My '08 FG XR6 with ZF auto got written off, so I temporarily bought a manual 1.3L 66kW Toyota Echo :p Teaching myself manual has been fun, so I've been looking at what to get next.
Obviously drooling over the Focus ST, but outta price range, so was looking at used LV XR5s.
This might just be the sweet spot I need.

Is there any word/speculation on colour choice? Red's a bit meh, and white is okay if it's similar to the FG white (Winter White or whatever it was called). But ideally I'd like a black or blue model.

Darkish orange pearl/metallic, red non-metallic, white non-metallic, blue metallic, black metallic. I think that covers all of the options.

From what I read in Wheels magazine today there is a new update Fiesta to be released at the same time as the ST.

Not sure if posted already, but Ford NZ have an ST page up with official stats.
http://www.ford.co.nz/cars/all-new-f...st/performance

And it looks like cruise control is standard.

Ford Oz have a page for interested buyers here:

Has anyone on FF pre-ordered a Fez ST?

I filled out that form two weeks ago. I'm 99% ready to order one. Just awaiting some confirmation about colour combos.

Ford never got back to me after filling it out.

That MyKey is something ive never seen.
Says you start it by putting foot on the brake then push start, i doubt that surely its clutch like the focus due to it being a manual.
Pity it doesnt get leather too.

Manual air con and cloth seats...maybe Ford Oz/NZ are importing the ST1 spec to keep the cost down. I was hoping for leather (even the Fiesta Metal gets it) but its not a deal breaker. Climate control would've been nice, but again I can live without it.

Yeah can live w/o climate (I have used climate twice in my ST). But the leather is nice. But if i were buying it wouldnt be a deal breaker either

Nothing new. Plenty of other cars have it.
You simply keep the fob on your person and when you approach the car it will unlock itself.
Then as you say, foot on brake and push a button.
Of course this system also makes it fairly easy to have the vehicle stolen if you don't keep an eye on the fob. Wonder wat insurance companies think of that?

No harder than traditional key or key/fob combo.
It's just the same as keeping your car key with you. It's not like people don't "keep an eye on their keys" and have their cars readily stolen.

Apparently when the ST arrives in NZ it will have a recommended retail of $34,990

http://www.stuff.co.nz/motoring/8735...iced-hot-hatch

On the Ford NZ site a manual Zetec is listed from $25,990. So $9k more for the ST.

http://www.ford.co.nz/cars/fiesta/price-list

Will this price difference be mirrored in Oz? Here a manual Zetec goes for $21,290

http://www.ford.com.au/latest-offers/fiesta

The ST could be a touch over $30K for us Aussies. I'm sure a test drive, and 2.9% finance, would ease a lot of buyer's minds.

No im aware of what it is, but have a look at the other features
From the Ford NZ site.
Quote:
Ford-exclusive MyKey enables owners to programme a key – usually for younger drivers – that restricts the top speed of the Fiesta ST, reduces the maximum volume of the audio system, and even disables the audio system altogether if driver and passengers are not using safety belts. It can also prevent the driver from deactivating safety technologies such as Dynamic Stability Control and Active City Stop, which can help mitigate or prevent low-speed collisions

I reckon the ST will be exempt from cheap finance like the Focus ST.
