Cars you don't see many of anymore

Yesterday: XG ute, a nice dark-ish green (metallic?), I think there was once a 'Longreach' sticker on the tailgate, alloy roll bar, nice condition, full reg.; also a Bedford van, Wiki tells me it's a CF, introduced 1969, nice condition, full reg.

Today: Nissan 280ZX, a dark purple colour, a bit rough but full current reg.

when 'vanning was the way to go along with the aussie version shaggin wagons there was many a CF with a holden/small chevy donk rumbling around.

Well they needed a Chev V8 to get them moving.The standard 173 wasn’t really up to the weight and wind resistance of the fairly big Bedford body.

Agreed, but the CF Bedford only had a 2.0 4-cyl donk when first introduced here. The 173 was the Big-Block upgrade. 1977 onwards they had a 202 !

Just like the Ford Transit, has anyone here ever had the 'pleasure' of driving an early Transit with the V4 engine ?

yup. '77 I got involved with an organisation that travelled all over Aus doing educational programs on health, relationships etc Head office was Adelaide but 'teams worked 4-5 months in one state. They had a fleet of old 4cyl trannies. I remember one time leaving Ade heading through Elizabeth. I was shotgun rider and everytime we came to traffic lights I would leap out (the sliding door) lift bonnet and dribble water over the fuel filter to keep it cool as it sat over the manifold, lights go green I leap back in and away we go.

in '78 the started changing over to the grunty 6cyl long body vans. mid '79 Stillwell Ford Regency contacted and mentioned a 6 cyl was available this would replace the last 4 cyl.
I was appointed to drive it to Cowra NSW and meet up with the team working in the area, swap the vans over and return the old 4cyl to Stillwells.

Duly done got it back to Regency pk and parked it in the front forecourt of Stillwells waitimg for my ride back to office.
One of the managers grabs the keys, laughs saying 'havent driven one of these ole bangers for years. Inserts key, turns the engine over, an almighty BANG and bits of a 4 cyl are scattered all over the yard. He was a little shocked and embarrassed.

2year warranty was the only reason to by the Nissan XF Ute, they were made by Ford in the same place as the rest.

Only the Toyota with the Holden Starfire 4 1.9L was improved upon by Toyota.

But as to the Nissan XF Ute Nothing was improved. it was just a badge and some difference in spec i believe.

A mid 90s white 5 door Fiesta hatchback, just a few streets from where i live. On original rego number, too.

Looks a little tired, but body appears in reasonable condition for over 25 years old.

Next time i walk past ill try for a better look.

Lets hope they're looking after it. Those Twin cams are fickled things and the old timers that know how to work on them are getting thin on the ground.

Yesterday at the Rob Roy Historic & Classic hill climb ... yellow XD wagon, Motorcraft headlight protectors, slightly rough condition but still full reg and towing a trailer for a competition car; very nice XY Fairmont, club permit; Mitsubishi Colt SS (1969?), club permit; Laser FWD (or does the badge say AWD?) ... and lots of old, old stuff.

We dont see sleepers anymore. Bog standard cars with big power underneath. Instead, anything with speed potential has the wheels, tyres and bodykit to match, so everybody knows about it.

But not everyone has forgotten what a sleeper is.
