I was using Photobucket as that is what I was told I need to use on this forum, I am part of other forums and I can upload photos straight from my computer to any posts without any need for a hosting web site.

Why can't this forum be the same??

I believe that Russ is looking into a few options that will allow users to upload onto the Forum.

Give Russ and the admin a little time to sort this out. As with everyone who is affected by photobucket's decision, I assume it has caught Russ and the admin team out by surprise as well.

You can upload straight to this forum and if you're doing it on other forums you should know how, it's easy enough.

This forum is completely different and does not give you the same options as others.

If I could upload photos straight from my computer I would not have wasted my time using photobucket.

Yep, other forums have allowed editing, I've been slowly replacing key photos on motorcycle and resto sites.

(by replacing stuff, not by the method mentioned....I deleted my Photobucket account)

Have been trying out the alternatives to PB and to date find PB and Imgur the easiest to use.

I have a paid PB account and find it very easy to use, also have free Flickr and Imgur accounts and some AFF gallery images.

Flickr is very difficult to navigate, not impressed at all.

AFF is greatly limited by file size, but otherwise easy to post pics to.

Here's a pic using Imgur, done in two clicks including change to file size, signed up and was using it within 2 minutes with ease, reckon its the best current alternative to PB.

I will keep my photobucket account so I can keep my photos, but transfer them one at a time as I need them.

Someone mentioned Flickr. I might look into that.

Thanks, will look at Imgur too.

I'm using imgur now and its ok, less ads popping up. I have installed 2 ad blockers in Firefox to cope with the ads in Photobucket. I have tried the ~original and it works sometimes at the moment.

I nearly deleted mine the other day, but then decided to leave my Photobucket account alone just in case they wake up to themselves, not likely but you never know, I am not paying for an account, ever, they make enough money with advertising etc so no one should have to pay IMO.

If nothing changes soon, I will be deleting the account and that will be the end of it for me for a while, could not be stuffed starting again and all my build threads that have been going for years are useless now.

Beware, the likes of Flicker/Imgur etc all don't let you host images there. It's in the terms and conditions, they just turn a blind eye to it at the moment. They will go the same way as Photobucket one day.....

I Think the more bandwidth your images attracted the quicker you got turned off. Low volumes of traffic to your hosted photos mean they haven't found you yet is my guess.

~original is working for now.

Photobucket members using 3rd party hosting who were using over 10Gb of bandwidth were the first to be targetted (including me). They are slowly working through and turning off users over time.

With millions of users it takes awhile to get to everyone it seems.

So has anyone else discovered Postimage? https://postimages.org/
Its free and so easy to use for just posting photos on forums.
Is it too good to be true? Is there a catch I need to be aware of?
Have tried flickr and imgur, but they are too messy for what I need them for.

From their website:

"Please keep the images embedded into third-party websites wrapped in links back to the corresponding HTML pages at our site when possible. The outgoing link should lead the user directly to our web page without any interstitial pages or interruptions. This allows your users to get access to the full-resolution images, and also helps us pay our bills."

Does this mean that you can only put up the link address, not the [img] link so the pics are automatically shown in a post?

As simple to use as Imgur is.

As long as you mention them when posting they seem to be happy with 3rd party posting.

Seems fair enough, why not give them a plug when posting photos.
I'm happy with it too so far, basic and straightforward.

I might change my signature to include a reference to PostImage.

The way I read their Terms of Use is that they just want a direct link back to their site. As in if you click in the pic it goes to the Postimage site directly.

I didn't see any mention of them wanting recognition.

Or am I reading this wrong?

That's right, but also says this,

"By downloading an image or copying other user-generated content (UGC) from PostImage, you agree that you do not claim any rights to it. The following conditions apply:
You may use UGC for personal, non-commercial purposes
You may use UGC for anything that qualifies as fair use under copyright law, for example journalism (news, comment, criticism, etc.), but please include an attribute ("PostImage" or "courtesy of PostImage") next to where it is displayed."

Just want to make sure they are happy

Have only downloaded about 50 of about 1500 images to them so far, all resized to 320x240, don't know what the limit is?
