Any you don't have to throw hard earned money into. In saying that not one of the e-series would get my vote. Ford stuffed a 1/2 decent car with the o.h.c. engine in the ea and still persist in using basically the same engine today in the ba. Which sadly has made an aussie icon as reliable as a taiwanese timex with a life span of a blowfly. And before you pineapple me and tell me how many k's are on your car....how many heads has it had in that time? Mines got 226,000 on it and on it's third head that i know of. Let alone head gaskets. Never had this much drama with my old 250 2v.

Sorry 208,000 klms and still on the same head. Maybe in all honesty it is the way you treat your car, and i do not mean drive it like a 90 year old would, regular servicing and tuning the car at the allocated times will help get your car to 4 maybe even 500,000 klms.

I agree the most important part in keeping these engines running for a long time is keeping the cooling system in top shape.

Since i've owned it it gets serviced every 5000km. The three heads were replaced by the two previous owners, before that who knows what was done. And no i don't drive it like a 90 year old but i do manage 3 years from a set of tyres. Now that petrol has hit $1.30/l theres no point in being a 1/2 crazed throttle jockey.

I got 360k out of my first engine (on 390k now) before I replaced the engine due to the BOTTOM end. I've owned it sice it had just over 100k and never had a problem with the head. If that isn't reliability I don't know what is!

I dont understand your point then. I f you do the right thing by your car and you drive it properly and YOU did not have to change the heads on the car what is your point?

589,900 from a hilux work ute, thrashed every day of its life, original engine gearbox and diff. the original clutch was replaced at 510,000. it just gets serviced regularly... now thats reliable:P
its drinking a little oil now though

should get to 600,000 by xmas

My point is until i owned my ea i'd only heard about some of the problems they have. (exploding batteries etc). Now since joining the club i have actually taken notice of all the other problems that e series falcons seem to have. The people i bought the ea off now have an ef and seem to be having the same trouble with it. As i said before , i owned an xb with 250 2v for years and the only major problem i had was to replace a radiator. Never head gasket or head problems. Maybe technology isn't such a wonderful thing after all. But not to worry, this forum is invaluable to people like me so we can learn things about our cars we would never learn any other way.

Cool

Well at least we are going to agree on one thing. The information that i have received from here has been invaluable. The amount of time wasted phoning and talking to mechanics that do not know their a.. from their elbows is amazing.
There are some questions that i have posed to mechanics are so different from the ones that are given here, its amazing, and to think people go to these guys to get their cars fixed and get ripped off.

This is true, there are a lot of people out there who call themselves mechanics who I wouldn't trust to replace an air filter, because they don't have a clue!

So when you find a good one, stick with them. That or learn as much as possible yourself and get yourself a good set of tools!
