Occupation: offically unemployed, currently participating in a "Work for the dole" project by working at a local primary school.

Looking for work, preferably not involving heavy labour - doesn't mix well with insulin dependant diabetes :(

Hours a week: Right now, the WFD project is 9am till 3:15pm, with an hours break for lunch from 1pm and 30 minutes from 11am to 11:30am, 3 days a week - so 14 and a half hours a week actual work time. Hopefully this year they'll decide to take me on full time, if not, hopefully I get a job elsewhere - otherwise I'll never get my Escort registered and on the road. :(

Not many places pay out sick leave, if you're in a company that does then you're lucky.

I install payroll systems for a living and, to be honest, the only time sick leave gets paid out is during retrenchments. Take your sick leave now before oyu quit cause it isnt paid out.

IT Depends what some company’s have in there Enterprise Bargaining Agreements we have up 10 weeks sick leave paid out upon leaving....we have 5 weeks A/Leave...even 80 mins double time while on A/leave...4 days paid recreational leave, 3 x12hr days paid careers leave, and 8 x 12hr days sick leave..its far cheaper for the company to pay out sick leave when employees leave if an employee has a sicky the boss has to pay overtime to cover that person..
All negotiated under enterprise bargaining...

Customs........ and no, I can't "look the other way"

Great job, at least at shitkicker and team leader level. Trouble is the politics involved just drive me f*cking mad. If you could get rid of everyone above supervisor level it'd be good.

Pay is all right but not fantastic.

When i was a pup I was a motor mechanic in sydney....then I started my own Computer business which was very succsessful. I did all the computer work for the local council and it's affilates. Sold that for a bomb, then went to work for an electrician for quite a few years. Got bored of that, then did a major course at uni in Satelite Communications in commercial & domestic. I now sub-contract for Foxtel, Austar and Optus & many others. I install anything from 65cm domestic, to 15.5 metre commercial. Great job...great pay...my own boss...I call the shots....and a $150.00 hr pay rate. I also do some freelance work in visual effects and compositing for film and games....thats pocket money. But I love film and visual effects... and one day I want to open my own visual effects business....Like ILM.

Cheers.

Default My Job

I work for Ford of Australia as a Development Engineer/Engine Calibrator in The Powertrain Development Department. It's a great job and I love it. My office is out at the Proving Ground and I work about 40 - 50 hrs a week, unless I'm on a Development trip when it can blow out to 70+. Can't talk much about what I'm working on other than its the next Falcon.

Started out casually at Woolies whilst still at school. Worked there for 4 years and when I finished my HSC, I did a traineeship as a spare parts interpreter dealing in tractor parts.

I work for a small company who basically import the parts and sell wholesale only. Company is based in Hallam VIC but I work for the NSW branch. Job isn't too bad, pay isn't bad for my age, but I'd prefer to be in Automotive. I'm only 20 and I'm 2IC of the branch, but only because there are 2 of us there! lol. All in all a pretty cruisy job that has it's ups and downs.

I think most of you know what I do but here goes for those of you who don't. I am the Education & Public Programs Manager of the Ford Discovery centre in Geelong Vic. Have been there 5 1/2 years now and do a variety of tasks from leading guided tours telling people about the history of Ford in Australia, and how cars are designed and built today, to driving the new Ford GT into position on the floor!!

For the next week I take up residence at my alternate desk, I am the scrutineering supervisor at the Summernats car show in Canberra. Long days but mucho fun!

Hope to meet some of you around the place. Those I have already met from the forum are a great bunch of people.

Ok, most people know where I work, but for those that don't, I'm in the Royal Australian Air Force, I train Hornet pilots. I enjoy it, and they pay me to turn up too.
