Im going the V8 its a huge step forward in V8s in Australia with quad cams, multi valves and plenty of alloy
Brings the Aussie/Yank V8s into the 21st centry
But have respect for the performance of the 6 with turbo

I said it before and i'll say it again, V8 all the way, not just with the Fords but in general.

I've seen a few people say in this thread that the 5.4L BOSS wont get anywhere near the power of the 4.0L Turbo, not entirely true, the BOSS 5.4L make 20 more KW then the Turbos in stock form. lol

I've never been in a Turbo so I dont know for sure but I have been in a BA XR8 and my brothers been in a BA XR6T and even he said he would take the V8 anyday.

how close is this... should do a poll on the commondore thread... v8 or 6? imagine the percentage... except the fully hectic vl turbos... lol... id say approx 80 or so towards the bent 8... but cant beat the sound of a blown ford 8... eg gary myers stang, and so on... dont need a blower though, anyone else heard the trick mansweto xw??? the motor thats now in theior capri and running 8s i think... could push the street trim xw to 9.5s though... naturally aspirated... is there any info on them on this here site? that xw is my dream car... hmm...

After having this type of discussion Saturday night I am led to believe that the turbo 6 is the best option......
Am in the process of looking for a newer car, I have 2 things that are a must about this newer car......1. Phantom Purple (yes the colour is the most important issue); 2. BA (dont know why, just cos the colour factor really)..
other than that I had no idea if it is to be a 6 (standard, turbo whatever) or an 8..... then comes the even more technical problem.. auto or manual...

Again, all I care about is the colour.. but was gently persuaded the Turbo is the MUST HAVE with the thing... lol :

I voted Turbo I6 without reading the last 10 pages.

If the V8 was alloy and didnt sacrifice handling I would much rather the sound.

oh and ya cant do that in a v8 huh?
the only diffrence is the v8 has its front wheels in the sky!

Good point. First thing I noticed when I traded my XR8 in for XR6T, was it handled a million times better. Tis awesome driving a T and knowing you are not getting slowed by a 5.4 litre anchor.

Instant Power. Dont you mean after you have 3000rpm on the dial......... the 5.4 has no low down torque stock, it sucks. My turbo I dont need to gear down to overtake, my BA XR manual I did........

Now how am i supposed to vote on this one

I can not go past the sound of the V8 (Heart choice)

The I6 turbo turns in better without the extra weight on the steer (head choice)

The best car i have driven on a race track was a NA 4cyl (pure adrenelen)

1600cc turbo in the capri with the weight taken out one of the best parts of my driving week. (seat of pants vote)

Drove both the XR6T and XR8. Loved the turbo, but cancelled the order and swapped to an XR8. Can't beat the V8 sound...

Well I admit to being biased :

But all this talk about sound, and yes I love the V8's, just listening to the start of the Clipsall 500 in pit straight gave me a hard on.

Try a custom 4 inch system with resonator on a modded typhoon...... on full boost she does not just sound good will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. Although you V8 boys will only hear it for a second or two as I wave goodbye on the way past :

Honestly, I have to agree, the blue oval has both camps well and truely covered and we all win.....

cheers

Peter

V8 for me too, love the sound. Can't say a bad word about the 6T either though, but the 8 is my cup-o-tea. so to speak.

Haven't driven a V8, so I can't give my 2c!
Unless someone is willing to change that of course!

You cant beat the sound of a decent v8 exhaust note whether it be a windsor, cleveland or boss.
The sounds to enjoy with the XR6T are a bit more subtle, the turbo spinning and the wastegate fluttering but definitely just as good.
The V8 sounds good inside and out of the car but the fun with the turbo is in the driving experience and the different noises depending on how hard its driven.
