Umm, their country is not completely surrounded by water, like ours?

For a ground war to take place on our soil, any attacker would first have to land them here, and that means they either land by sea or by air. It makes both navy and air force defence more of a priority for us than it would a nation that shares land borders.

And in terms of a Navy, if faced with a major attacking power with aircraft carriers, the most important deterrent is a nuclear sub that can take out the aircraft carrier and put huge doubt in the mind of the attacking major power.

I reckon the subs are at least partly so we can do our bit guarding and protecting the straits and major sea lanes to the North of us, if the time comes. There are a few very narrow and strategic shipping lanes up there.

An air to air refuelling capability, which we now have, somewhat makes an aircraft less warranted, as it extends your strike capability massively. AAR is not an answer for long-term, long range strike support tho.

Haven't heard a price tag on these Subs have been offline for a couple of days so may have missed it. Does the maintenance and arming come into it as well. picking it will be eye watering with the Base, training, new personal etc.

Trying to buy 2 x 900mm single fluro light battens. They can't be had anywhere - everyone has 600mm & 1200mm - but nothing in between :-(

Try the electrical wholesalers, that is if they still make them this day and age.

If by 900mm you mean the 30w t8 fluorescent fittings, yeah a wholesaler maybe. T8 stuff is getting phased out. Yeah lamps and ballasts etc are still available but for t8, 2 foot 18w and 4 foot 36w was more popular. Even t5 stuff is not as prevalent as it was.
LED batton fittings are all rage these days. Any decent wholesaler will have a range of LED eqivalents. But still its understandable if you just want to swap out a bum fitting like for like that matches the rest.

900mm equals 3 foot.
Fluoros were always 2 ft and 4 ft, dont remember ever seeing a 3 ft tube.

Yeah - they were available (but not popular). Have tried several wholesalers etc , but to no avail. Apparently the sale of fluro lights/tubes will be banned from Sept 2023, so I might have to replace with LED battens & save the planet...

For some reason, I have a propensity to put a hole into the sock I'm wearing on my right foot, perfectly aligned with my big toe.

So, why it is that, when I put on a pair of socks where only one has a hole in it, that I always end up with that sock on my right foot? Makes no difference as to which order I put the socks on, the holey sock ALWAYS ends up on my right foot.

Why is it the coalition of the willing have not yet found any WMDs in Iraq? This month marks 20 years since the search started to find what Colin Powell told the UN existed and needed to be neutralised. Longest game of hide-and-seek ever!

because the Yanks didnt learn their lesson at Vietnam. The silly sods play a game of...'now where would we as wise Americans hide it?' Instead of getting into the local culture and thinking like them.

people (question mark) purposly brake check you. Unless you already had a dinged up backend on your vehicle why would you want someone to destroy the rear end of your vehicle. It may be writtenoff, off the road for a few weeks etc etc just why?

Yes its usually because the second vehicle has yelled, blasted horn etc etc I just dont get it.

I drive a Smart car to work each day, you would not believe the amount of people who think its funny to see how close they can get to the back of it, I had one guy tap me with the Orange one I had, He s#!t when he seen me get out.

Im not game to tap the brakes, there's only 40cm from the back of my seat to the back of the car

The trick is not to actually brake, but maintain your speed but just touch the brake pedal with your left foot enough to illuminate your brake lights.
Yes, I'm guilty of doing it, but there is no where to go, traffic is moving, but some clown behind thinks I can go faster than the flow of traffic, so gets up my rs to make me go faster.
I can't mate, there's 300 cars in front of me.
