Most people only have a car for a few years anyway before they upgrade to something else, or it gets damaged.
Then, isn't that what insurance is for? If something gets damaged, you put in an insurance claim. Company sees that there aren't any parts available to repair the car. It's a write off. You get your payout. Done. And there will always be wreckers to find extra parts you need. Only Ford "enthusiasts" have to worry about spare parts supplies. Your Average Joe (who isn't buying full-sized sedans anymore, anyway) won't have to worry about parts beyond the warranty period. |

They only need to produce a % of what sells. If it was 1 taillight for every 100 EF sold, they will do the same for all F series, even if they only sell 10 of them, which I am sure they will sell quite a few, How many T series were sold but specific T series parts are now also available because of hoarders and NOS. Let them hoard as the parts are released at some stage and quantities will determine the price ..... and I am talking 15 years down the track.

Of course, the less cars you actually make, the less inventory you need to make and carry...

...and of course, if softcocks would stop buying their oriental softroaders, and go back to buying REAL cars, we wouldn't be in this predicament.

I'm sympathetic to the local car makers but to succeed in business you need to make a product that people want (ie. Territory). And it's not the market's fault that they want good 4-door Utes... |

However the general public will buy less of them, and they dont care about medium/long term parts availability. Enthusiasts will hold onto and look after their cars longer than the public. So parts for the enthusiasts/long term owner down the track will be significantly less than say a BA/BF, AU, EF/EL etc.

Please define a real car? Now my assumption is you're referring to Falcodores. Enlighten us all how a Falcon XT, Commodore Omega/whatever it is is a real car over say a Hilux or Ranger? Over a Territory and any other "soft roader?" What is it that makes you think these cars are better?

If it wasn't for the Territory Ford would have been gone long before 2016! They should have milked it better.

Hey - that stuff has never stopped me either. Every car I've owned has had spare parts issues - never stopped me from buying or hanging onto it. The difference with FH is not the volumes that they may or may not sell - my point was more around the small parts suppliers that supply FORD going out of business sooner rather than later which may cut into the spares parts production and availability. This was never the case for previous models as those small manufacturers were always around and the ability to produce additional parts if required was always an option. Its crystal balling , but I'm only guessing here that spare parts availability will be much more of a problem with this new model than any previous model. Glass half empty.
But Glass half full may mean that if it sells in such low numbers - and Ford already have a good cache of spares for the unique parts - then it may end up being a good thing as supply will no doubt exceed demand over the very long term. Either way - I'm looking forward to seeing the new XR8 - if its half as good looking as some of the renderings - then it willbe worth trawling through wrecking yards looking for the odd part if youneed it. hell -I;ve been doing that for 10+ years when I has my XE ESP... |

I cant see Ford stocking many unique model specific parts for FH. Look at the likes of the FPV's, hell they ran out of F6E headrests for the last batch and simply fitted GT-E ones. They would have been better off fitting G6E ones with no writing.

Whats that black thing in the middle boot lid hole? (edit: above the number plate, the black round shape that looks to be pointing down at an angle) Reverse Camera? Key Hole? I doubt it is a light for the numberplate thats what the two side ones would be. I dont remember seeing anything stick out like that on the FG's Last edited by Sam1112; 13-03-2014 at 04:28 PM. |

Ford have only just announced yesterday that they have appointed an E8 parts supply team, who's job it will be to make sure parts are kept in sufficient levels. So they are already working on getting the supplies right for when the plug is pulled.
Parts supply won't be an issue. It will be no different to what it is now. |

I think Spyman said that Ford were using panels placed under the camo to hide true body profile. Plus I think early FG spy shots made it look like it had a Peugeot-like 1 metre front overhang.

Orange side repeaters confirmed. Don't get it. Probably because it is the same part as used in other Ford cars. Backward step IMO. We have a habit of doing that though. i.e. XF to EA, from clear to orange front indicators, EF to EL + AU; clear to orange rear tail lights. The small things matter.
It's still going to be one mighty fine looking car! Bring. It. On.

Not calling you a liar or anything, but is that for real...? Because I'd be ****ed off if I spent that much on a car and got another cars bits on the inside...

Geez I should hope so. In this day and age there is no excuse for a car of that expense not to come with a colour screen. Screens are dirt cheap to make these days. You can buy a tablet with an 8 inch screen for less than $200 these days - even cheaper.
