The only thing i disliked about Goauto's article, is they continue to talk about front wheel drive falcon's past 2016 when they have no actual proof; apart from hear say; that this is going to happen. The other thing that irritates me about that subject, is, that talk bares no relevance to that article at all.

On another note, Fantastic to see Ford boosting falcon up, its about bloody time; and i love what they did at the motorshow this year. Fantastic effort all round, and look forward to getting to the Melbourne motorshow next year to see and possibly sample some of the latest offerings .

You're right there, maybe they hired a Drive journalist.

Looks pretty good to me. Definitely a noticeable change over the current front end.

Only downside is, we may have to loose a few things like maybe the 4.0 six. But if we keep the ecolpi..its the same thing only better. Looks like lateish next year well get a good SOLID sneak peak to interest maybe possible vf buyers and not dent current models to much. Sounds like a feaseable plan to me.
You can't just make the LPi versions, there's no way it would be cost effecitive to run the casting and engine plants to just build 20-30 LPi engines a day and not spread the expense across a whole range of petrol, turbo and LPG variants. I really can't see how they can even do it cost effectively at 85 engines a day they will be running after the downbalance, considering we used to run at 480 a day 10 years ago.

Fixed costs don't change much between 480 and 85.

There was a article on the news last night about it. They are doing a review because of petrol prices and are looking at removing the thirsty V6 commodores from our fleets and were looking at updating. Options are Mondeo, Ecoboost and a few others. I hope they go ecoboost. Plenty of room, performance and still get fuel economy.

One would have to assume Boss... that when they take away availability for the Petrol, then more people would turn to the EcoLPi or EcoBoost offerings.

Only thing wrong there is the Turbo would be no more... and we need that. (Or do we?)

I hear at the Ford casting plant that they do not do 85 a day like is suggested, and in fact run a full shift just once a week or so on blocks and make a weeks worth in one batch, and the rest of the week is spent doing brake discs etc that are used on toyotas etc.

The ford casting plant is one of the only large scale steel casting plants left in Oz.

Maybe just with the bumper mounted tail lights to complement the FG tail lights as opposed to the whole Fudeo rear end.

I'm going to defend GoAuto on this one. Ford have moved to global platforms and do not have a large, RWD platform; the Mustang wheelbase is too short and Australia is the only Ford market with a current, large RWD sedan. The development costs required to provide variable wheelbase length for the Mustang platform will not be justified just for Australia. The current trend is for FWD vehicles with flexibility for AWD.

Being at the motor show and seeing the new Mondeo, I do hope they drop it when the Falcon is updated - it looks way too much like a Falcon competitor. Add the diesel to Falcon and the Mondeo features and get it back up to 2000 units a month.

I agree that at this point in time it looks that way, however, this is all speculation and no one really knows exactly what Ford as a whole have in the pipeline. GoAuto and other media websites should concentrate on what the article is about, which is in 2014 we have a newly updated Falcon coming to the market to combat the VF commodore.

If they want to speculate on what is or isn't coming in 2016-18, then do so in a separate article labelled "Falcon/Commodore Speculation, what does 2016 and beyond Hold?". But they have already consistently spoken at length on what they consider is going to happen, and they do not need to harp on about it, or bring a reasonable article down by including speculation that does not relate to what is happening in 2014.

Finally, people need to remember that platforms are always being designed for the future, which could hold anything for us here in Australia. Until such time as Ford Australia or America formally announce what is actually happening with the Falcon, all speculation does, is plant seeds of doubt within peoples heads.

Yep, .2 of a second to be exact, ripper little motor!!! I remember reading in one of the motoring mags that the ecoboost falcon went fast around i think it was wakefield, 2 seconds faster than Toyota's 86!!!

For Falcon to get to 2018, it may only cost Ford $50M (2014) and another $20 M in 2016..

I call that economically viable..
