That could be the perfect springboard to launch an affordable base Falcon at would be mid sized car buyers..
The I4T in Falcon may yet be more powerful if the Explorer transmissions and all the other FWD based applications so far arent strong enough.

regarding the spy shots....

if you cover with ur hand everything left of the wheel arch in the second picture, i swear it looks like they have photoshopped the front end of a commodore onto it.

Good point, although it appears they're optimising each iteration to have the best economy for the vehicle it will be used in, not the maximum performance.

Ecoboost 2.0 under development in next Focus RS has been tuned to 350 hp, they've been to 380 hp
where engine reliability can be a problem but the engine can handle it.

It is possible that Explorer's top end power has been electronically controlled Focus ST will have more power
but we'll know soon enough when FoA tells us the power levels...210 KW/365 nm would be nice...

What do you think that will do to the resale value of XR6s in a few years time?

Will anyone care?
Nope.. But why have 3 cars when you only sell 1..

XT and G6 don't sell... They would be better off putting more money into XR6 and G6E and having 2 really good models then the current 4 they have. Id love to know how many XT's they build now.. probably only a few a day, same with G6 euro 4.

The thing that amazes me however is how many Omega commodores there are floating around.. Holden much really price Omega strongly in the fleet market because theres alot of them.

Falcon gives in to Commodore
Jez Spinks
August 6, 2011

Ford admits its Falcon won't ever outsell the Commodore again.
Ford has raised the white flag in its 33-year sales fight against the Holden Commodore.

The company is aiming to improve sales of its Falcon large car during the next year with a range of updates that include a styling refresh and a new four-cylinder engine variant but the maker admits it won't ever overtake Commodore sales.

Ford Australia vice-president of marketing, sales and service, Beth Donovan, says the Commodore's extra Sportwagon body style gives it an unassailable advantage.

''As a nameplate, we'll never outsell Commodore again because we'd have to outsell all those wagons as well,'' she says.

Advertisement: Story continues below
''But remember, our wagon is Mondeo wagon and in some ways you could make the argument that we fill all that space not just with that but also the Territory .''

Ford Australia discontinued the Falcon wagon last year, having decided not to introduce an all-new version in 2008.

The Commodore continues to dominate and has been Australia's best-selling car for 15 years, though the Falcon has had the occasional monthly success when comparing sedan sales only.

A new LPG engine has been added to the Falcon line-up and the four-cylinder petrol engine is expected to lower fuel economy to about 8.0 litres per 100 kilometres.

Donovan believes the four-cylinder will be a ''game changer'' but admits there's only so much that can be done to lift sales.

''[The segment's] down 53 per cent in 10 years,'' she says. ''It doesn't matter what dress you wear to the dance on that one.''

Ford is yet to confirm the long-term future of the Falcon, with one option being to replace it with the US-designed Taurus.

That article wasn't specific with the dates. In fact it was somewhat lazy. It was by Spinks though. With a successful Territory launch with sales at 5 year highs I guess he needed a story like this.

What it does highlight is that Ford should'be advertised those months where FG outsold the VE sedan.

Within 3 months is FG2. Xr8 to follow. Ecoboost to follow in January.

Not sure if they are the same spy shots as in this thread but, CarAdvice on facebook has said "What's in store for series 2 of Ford's FG Falcon? Check back tomorrow as we reveal exclusive spy photos."

Not sure if anyone has seen that yet. Look forward to what they have...

Spy pics from CarAdvice are up...

Doesnt look like they have pulled many design cues from the new Territory. Shame, but its to expected.

Seems like some fairy lights and maybe lower lip colour change.

Too hard to tell much from those photos. They're probably only half-mules at the moment like they did with the early diesel Territory mules. But those LED's look a bit...tacked on.

I'd say so, these could just be mules with a slight change. I hope they get the SZ front end treatment, it would work well.

The DRL's look like they are stuck onto the car bra. Take a closer look the old lamps can be seen underneath. I reckon they are fakes to put us off.

You could be on to something there, they look too tacked-on (and right above where the current lamps are)
