I must get my wife's i45 onto some wet grass and then film the dash to see what 0-100 time a stock 4 cylinder Hyundai can manage.

Can't believe the Camry love going on here of late.
The Camry epitomises motoring blandness to a tee.

Add to that there is no pizazz, no flair, and more importantly no heritage behind the car or the name.
In this respect, it cannot hold a candle against the Falcon, which has umpteen gutsy Bathurst and ATCC wins behind it, with driving legends like Moffat, Gibson, Johnson, Bowe, Ambrose, and Frosty all ingrained in its folklore. It's the current reining Bathurst winner.

As was also mentioned, unlike the XR6T, there's no cult-car status going on with it either.

0-100 times in the 6 seconds bracket is all well and good, but that can't be compared to cars running in the 5 second bracket.
Much like 5 second bracket cars can't be compared to 4 second bracket cars - this "only a second in it" argument is rubbish.

I doubt any of this is news to most Ford and/or performance car enthusiasts.

However, for the benefit of the Camry aficionados who are close to placing their orders, I've just checked to see whether Camry's are still available in beige.

Unfortunately they are not - the closest colour is called 'magnetic bronze'.

I thought all manufacturers of mass produced cars ensured speedo readings are a few k’s faster (per 100km/h) than actual in case of discrepancies to stop law suits arising from driver’s being booked for speeding.

Or is that just an urban myth?

since 2006 no manufacturer can have a speedo that reads less than the actual road speed, and it mustn't read above the road speed by more than 10%.

obviously if any changes are made to the car, including tyres, the onus is on the owner to make sure the speedo is still correct.

I think the law states that speedos cannot read low. But every car I have been in reads a little high.

I found this but there are many more articles that involve the more technical aspect of ADR's and the general rule is most speedos read high.

How accurate is your speedo?

Date July 16, 2014
Sam Hall
Motoring Writer

An exclusive Drive test has shown 93 per cent of new car speedometers are inaccurate.

A five-month study of 60 new vehicles ranging in price from $14,490 to $441,300 showed most speedos measured over the posted limit by an average of 5km/h at 100km/h – well within the Australian Design Rule parameters.

The difference in readings - as much as 6 per cent at 100km/h - can partially explain the difference in driving speeds on some freeways.

It's particularly noticeable on heavily policed sections of road, where tailgating can be rife as frustrated drivers either urge others to speed up or are afraid to inch over what their vehicle's speedometer is displaying.

The Drive test was undertaken using a satellite phone app on the same flat stretch of road, with the device mounted securely in a cradle. Sitting on 100km/h with the cruise control activated, testers monitored the true speed of the app over a period of about 60 seconds, comparing it with a vehicle’s indicated speed. The app reading was then compared to an industry-certified GPS performance meter, to ensure absolute accuracy.

Of the 60 vehicles tested, four – three Jeep Cherokees and an Audi A5 2.0 TFSI - came back with a perfect 100km/h reading, while a Mahindra Genio ute was next best with a 99km/h reading.

The worst culprits for inaccuracy were the Nissan Juke, Toyota Kluger, Alfa Romeo MiTo and Jeep Wrangler (all 6km/h off). To-date, the most inaccurate reading obtained by Drive was in a Nissan Patrol, which was out by 11km/h.

As a general rule, luxury cars fared better in the testing than regular passenger cars – usually within 2km/h of the true speed.

All cars fell within the parameters of an Australian Design Rule that requires that the speedo must not indicate a speed less than the vehicle’s true speed or a speed greater than the vehicle’s true speed by an amount of more than 10 per cent plus 4km/h.

That is, with the speedo displaying 100km/h the vehicle must be travelling between 87.3km/h and 100km/h. This gives the perception that drivers are travelling faster than what they really are - or exactly at the limit.

The test was performed on near-new tyres and on vehicles with fewer than 10,000km on the odometer.

The biggest fluctuations in speed readings usually come from tyre wear, pressure and tread depth, as well as calibration of the speedo.

The difference between a new and worn set of tyres usually equates to about 3km/h at 100km/h, as the car will actually be travelling slightly slower for the same reading on worn tyres.

Interesting, and not a single ford on the list unless my old eyes are deceiving me, fords would no doubt fit in with the average slightly optimistic, my au speedo has been 5 or 6 ks optimistic from day dot.

I noticed that as well though I didn’t read too much into it, I just saw it as the Anti Ford bias expected from Drive.

Aurion has always been made here. We're also the only nation where it and the Camry are separate models, elsewhere you either get one or the other (and badged only as a Camry)

Hired an SX Territory in 07. Indicated 100kph on speedo matched 100kph on GPS. That car was so awesome, smooth and comfy I would have bought it in a heartbeat, had it been for sale.
