Cars you don't see many of anymore

Tis a shame I don't see any Fords that are photo worthy.

Adelaide is the backwater. also depends on suburbs. I am in Ade at present, and in one part of town yesterday so many older stuff.
go to a country town and you will see the same thing.

Less rust than coastal areas and more tight-*****.

It is because they have the most citizen friendly registration laws. Tasmania and WA are also not to bad. The same cars in Victoria and others would be long gone with uneconomic repairs to keep the car 'roadworthy'.

Laughing... now THAT would have made for a good fantasy read.. 253 munches a Ho eee... the only way I could see that happening is if the HJ was being towed by a FA-18
The only thing that would have got blown away would have been the crankshaft falling out the bottom of the 2 fifty 3.. hehehe

My car was lowered to the bump stops... almost.. and handled really well on airport runway type highways, and corners to, as long as they were smoothish corners with no mid corner bumps.

The Bruce highway was newish back then and an absolute dream to drive fast on. I used to love spotting a car in the distance ahead of me at night, say, a kilometre up the road, cracking open the back ones and seeing how long it would take me to catch up, and then suck the number plates off the car I just passed at double the speed they were doing. Total madness now, I know, probably was even was back then, but hey, you only live once and I liked to. Try doing that now and you would be locked up for a considerable amount of time, and maybe even make the 6 o'clock news as a bonus...

Just good times back in those days. No cameras, no Lie Dar, just a cop sitting on a chair in some bushes with a big dish (old school radar) and a walkie talkie to talk to his mate waiting up the road, idling, in his Hwy patrol car.. which was a XE 351 back in the days I'm talking about.
Got tones of good memories from back then. Should write them down before I start hiding my own easter eggs I spose..

I cracked 200 once back in the 80’s heading towards Murray Bridge on the south eastern freeway…. Late at night and only myself on the road.

Spotted on Flemigton Rd yesterday, a yellow E49 Charger. Also had a painted number on the side.
Also, last Sunday an original Fiat 500 in the Domain tunnel.

Sydney is late model newbies so seeing AU’s BA’ FG’s each day I’m luving it.
When I think about it haven’t noticed as many Holden’s commodores infact bugger all.

I used to find the VT-VZ were the ones that tailgated and pulled dangerous overtakes between Launceston and places like Bridport. I guess five years on, it’s probably now VEs.

Plenty of newer MGs in Tasmania, rental and private stock.

LONG Post....We don't have annual car inspections here in South Australia.Just log on to ezyreg, tick how many months you need, 3 months or 12 months reg, and away you go. No questions asked. No vehicle inspection required.I used to flip cars for a lot of years. I'd buy a car from Victoria, arrange with the seller to get a 48 hour rego permit, get them to meet me at Tullamarine airport, I'd pay for it in cashola, fill it up and drive it back to Adelaide. Yeah risky I know... but the worst thing that happened was getting pulled over by a couple of dougnuts one night at Bordertown.1st thing he said was "where's your number plates?" I said, "I don't have any". He said "why not?" I said it's on a vehicle permit. "Where's the permit?" I say "it's on the passenger side of the windscreen where it should be". Oh he says. "Have you just purchased it?" He was pretty quick...yes i say, he says "good.. another sh-i-t box off our roads"... and left me alone.Then the next day I would get a SA rego permit for an Identity inspection, where they check, among other things I'm sure, engine number, chassis number, vin number and stolen vehicle check.So... after 2 hours of pain and a few hungee later, I would be on my way with 3 months reg and a new toy for a week. That's usually how long it took to sell after I detailed and fixed anything that was wrong with it.My all time bestest favorite cars to flip were the 1.8 N13 Nissan Pulsars (Not the 1.6 if possible).I was buying them for a max of $500 and re-selling them for $2500 - $3200 (depending on the model.. Pulsar Q, Reebok etc) for a couple of years every week. without fail. At one time I had 3 of them in my driveway waiting to go. U-pullit had tones of them for wrecking, parts were cheap as. So for 3 days work, I was earning killer coin.I became an expert on fitting cv shafts.. and head gasket changes.Anyway, that's one reason we have a lot of older chunkers on our roads than most other states.One Man

Seen a moke in traffic today. This one wasn't mad restored or anything like the only ones you ever see. At a guess I'd say probably 90s restored as moke = rust. Other thing i seen was a vw jetta (i think) but from a distance i thought it was a silly place to park that for a radar trap. Yes it was a police vehicle but coming closer all the airbags have been deployed and it looked a bit bent.

When I was a kid the old man worked at a Holden dealer and I can remember they had one of these Jap import on the used yard. It was a 3 door sport model with factory alloys/body kit, looked pretty sharp and it revved high. A google search suggests it may have been a CA18DE with 96kw. Not bad for the end of the 1980s.

Our N13s never got the CA18DE.
It was just a single cammer 1.8.

N14s did get the SR20 though (as an option)

on a working holiday from NZ to Aus in 1971 I did a short stint at BMC in Zetland (Syd) I'd hand colour tags on bodies so the spray shop got the colour right to match the interior. The number of Moke badges that fell into my pockets was crazy.
