Spotted turning onto Royal pde in Parkville- a Lotus Esprit. Silver paint and looking suspiciously new, possible rebuild.

Was following this and unfortunately wasn't able to get a clear pic.. the second pic is what it looked like. Hand no number plates, front or rear.

I'd buy a car from Victoria, arrange with the seller to get a 48 hour rego permit, get them to meet me at Tullamarine airport, I'd pay for it in cashola, fill it up and drive it back to Adelaide. Yeah risky I know... but the worst thing that happened was getting pulled over by a couple of dougnuts one night at Bordertown.1st thing he said was "where's your number plates?" I said, "I don't have any". He said "why not?" I said it's on a vehicle permit. "Where's the permit?" I say "it's on the passenger side of the windscreen where it should be". Oh he says. "Have you just purchased it?" He was pretty quick...yes i say, he says "good.. another sh-i-t box off our roads"... and left me alone. Then the next day I would get a SA rego permit for an Identity inspection, where they check, among other things I'm sure, engine number, chassis number, vin number and stolen vehicle check.So... after 2 hours of pain and a few hungee later, I would be on my way with 3 months reg and a new toy for a week. That's usually how long it took to sell after I detailed and fixed anything that was wrong with it.My all time bestest favorite cars to flip were the 1.8 N13 Nissan Pulsars (Not the 1.6 if possible).I was buying them for a max of $500 and re-selling them for $2500 - $3200 (depending on the model.. Pulsar Q, Reebok etc) for a couple of years every week. without fail. At one time I had 3 of them in my driveway waiting to go. U-pullit had tones of them for wrecking, parts were cheap as. So for 3 days work, I was earning killer coin.I became an expert on fitting cv shafts.. and head gasket changes.Anyway, that's one reason we have a lot of older chunkers on our roads than most other states. One Man image

The 1.8 Pulsar manual was a nice car. Holden re-badged it as the Astra plus there was the HSV version. I can't remember how HSV modified the car. The Pulsar Hatch was one of the sportier looking Japanese hatches in its time.

Tweaked Morgan Plus 8 in Epping the other day; seemed to be EFI with auto and ignition cut on upshifts. Very surprising to observe something that sounded more like a Trackhawk but wrapped in a Morgan body.

“Shed find” brown XA sedan in a Cambewarra Rd driveway near the Bomaderry Woolies/KFC complex on Wednesday last.

Bronzy-gold TR3A (I think) driving in Hunter Lane, Hornsby on Thursday.

Friday an absolute gem driving on Linda St Hornsby, Mk1 Esky panel van in full “lad van” trim - heavy rake, white with wide blue double side stripes, roof spoiler and I think also a pop-up sunroof. Mint condition, younger driver. I would put quids on I having black or blue shag trim in the rear.

Heard it before I spotted it, a manual T3 TS50 in signature Blueprint paint. The driver wasn't gunning it, but I can tell that distinctive Windsor warble with my eyes closed. It's been a very long time since I spotted a T-Series in the wild, a true delight to see.

It's also been a while since I have seen a MG TF, this one in canary yellow. Dreadful car, even if it was a mid-engine.

Someone asked the other day, why is it you don't see many older fords on the road? This might have something to do with it.

This thread along with all the others I follow have gone really quiet.
I'm starting to get withdrawal symptoms.

My older son just bought a Laser Sedan.
I only saw it in the dark on the road - looked fairly neat, interior already full of his crap :-)
I asked, What made him look at a Laser?
His reply, What's reliable for $3k?
(I pointed at our AU)

That would have been Vanish, which makes a rare car even rarer. Vanish only lasted to Feb 2015, so was only in production for 4 months. Vanish was replaced by Aero Blue, which was a lighter shade.

On the XR8, only 13 were painted Vanish blue, 9 autos and 4 manuals.

It's why, over a period, we owned 4 AUs, and on a couple of occasions I almost bought another.
(Sadly, reliability doesn't extend to contact with trees and other vehicles.)

My last one, sat in the yard for years. When I finally decided to get rid of it, connected the battery, started first time, and away she went.

If "Mad Max" ever comes to pass, they'll all be driving AU's.

Just imagine what could have been if Ford didn't make them so ugly.
