Dad tells me of when he used to pay 11 cents for Super in the 70's. What a time to be alive! Wonder what LPG was in the mid to late 70's.

Seems you missed the joke...
But yes, seems we are "entitled" to $2.50 a litre for fuel and a housing affordability crisis.

Super around 30c/gal when I started driving in 71. Wow, 6.75/ltr and earning around $100 per fortnight. Unleaded is $2.20 or 32.5 times that price today. Certainly not earning $3200 per fortnight today.

I can remember using around 2 tanks of super per day in the early 80's but don't recall ever worrying about the price at the time to go gas.

Seems some on Facebook are getting decent discounts from the 'price lock' options? Probably too late to apply when prices already going up.
There are several price comparison apps available - I use PetrolSpy. Saved me a heap but you need to look at the dates the prices were entered to make sure they are up to date. Wonder how long gas will be around considering how it's being deamonised for residential use?

[QUOTE=PooDog;6842194]I can remember in NZ we had carless days in 1979 lasted about a year and achieved nothing, you had a sticker you had to put on the windscreen.....think you could choose the day ?.....piece of brilliance by the fearless leaders.
If you knew the right people you could get the X sticker. Politics hasn't changed much. |

Went to the South side of Brisbane on Tuesday, typically, in my neck of the woods e10 91 is around $1.97/L and it jumps roughly 10c up from there for 95, 98 and diesel, with 98 averaging $2.20. (with the exception of Ampol, which is always 10-15cpl more than anywhere else... EVEN Shell)...
Anyway, other than a few outliers, Brisbane prices seemed to start at $2.35 odd for 91... Like, sweet merciful Christ. I thought it was bad out this way. Cheers, Tony |

There was someone here on AFF who converted their B series Falcon to run on natural gas recently, as in they posted here a few months ago asking for help tuning it, they were able to fill it at home too.
Apparently methane has an octane rating of 120 as well, Last edited by Franco Cozzo; 29-09-2023 at 10:56 AM. |

Typically, Natural Gas calorific value is much less than LPG (Hello Ethanol vs petrol) but savings would be great if you filled it at home.

Had. A 90l CNG tank in the back of a Valiant Safari wagon ,,man it was heavy ,used to run really well on it at about 80 mph all the rattles and vibration used. to clear and it used to just hum along leaving Holdens and Falcons in the dust

I'd love to find a CNG set up now, setting up a hydrogen to synthetic methane plant might be a tad tricky in the suburban back yard, but at least there would be methane (natural gas) available to be piped into the house/yard. The compressor isn't all that expensive these days and could be run from solar/battery .... but a hybrid electric drive upgrade combined with the original engine would still be easier to fit and set up .....
Put the new NiMh traction battery in my '06 silver Prius during the week, the orange taxi Prius has too many issues that need attention at the moment .... instant return to 5 ltr/100km while still being driven hard has an amazing effect on the smile factor ;) T1 Terry |

Here we go, this is the post here. $26 to fill 23m3 of natural gas, about 250km range. The only other thing I've seen like this was like 15 years ago when people on Ford Mods were trying to make HHO from the alternator while driving and putting it into the intake with varying results http://www.fordmods.com/ford-lpg-hyd...as-t59449.html There's the thread Last edited by Franco Cozzo; 01-10-2023 at 07:49 PM. |

Think SMSP has 102 race fuel. Few years ago, Shell used to sell a E5 100 octane fuel. My poor BA computer just couldn't advance the timing enough to use it and the low compression motor was a problem vs the GT higher compression.

Went past at 3pm and down to 181.9 Past again at 5.45 and down further to 178.9. Filled both cars and jerry can for the mower. Checked the RAA fuel price app at 11pm, and bingo, 201.9. Price now? 198.9 |

Brent crude barrel price down to just below $70 after 25% slump after U.S summer.
Great news just in time for Xmas. |
