click click click CV joint and Ford now approve the immediate replacement of the whole shaft rather than opening up the joint and re torquing the widgets.

Spec Level: LS XR5 KMs at time of fault: 500 Symtoms: Not holding 6th Fault: Gearbox Fixed? By: New Gearbox Only took ford 15 months and 24,000 k's before they finally authorize a replacement gearbox. Dealer always wanted to do a gearbox, but ford wouldn't sign off on a new box until all avenues had been exhausted. |

I'm gonna be buying one off a wreck (joys of 50,000kms out of warranty), also getting a drivers hub, the lack of camber kit and bumping roundabouts have caused the hub bearing to be a little loose, and causes the disc wear unevenly.

There is a company here in Chipping Norton who can recondition 1 side of your CV joint for $90 or $120 for a brand new CV joint fitted onto your already removed half shaft. |

So yesterday I:
Replaced drivers side half-shaft (from a 5000km old Focus) Replaced drivers rear hub 150,000km service Aircon and ancillary belts (aircon belt is an annoying stretchy belt) Still to do: Fix valvetrain Coolant flush and thermostat replace Also sounds like my brake discs need machining and new pads at the front.

Ford replaced both driveshafts last week and it now drives like new again. there must be a weakness in thos CV joints. But it is good to see a high km unit still going strong.

I shifted into 2nd when I should have gone into 4th, and hit around 10-11000rpms. I've been told through reporting various diagnostics, that its a collapsed bucket.

No did a compression test:
Cyl1 200, Cyl2 202, Cyl3 201, Cyl4 199. That doesn't rule out something amiss with valves hitting the cylinder, just less likely.

It seems that South Africa wasn't the pinnacle of automotive build quality in 2005-2006.
Which is more fun to drive?

Ok I know that my car is an 08 LT but still thought this was deserving to make note of as it is quite serious. I was buying some stuff from the shops and went to drive off, started to reverse the car out of the parking space and noticed the steering was a bit heavy, I thought that the car died when reversing due to minimal engine noise (hence exhaust mod sometime soon) had a look at the tacho and saw it was still running, so went into 1st and started moving forwards, steering was still heavy, so I looked down once again and saw that a red light was up and the diagnostic box said "Power steering Failure" I was like wat the..... pulled up just down the road and decided to switch the ignition off and then start the car up again, and is fine again... what gets me is that the computer must control the power steering pump to some degree and failed to send a signal to it. It was just brought to my concern due to the fact that is taking a corner at a decent speed and it has the same episode it could end up being a big drama.. anyone shared a similar experience???

Nope nothing, just was weird sometimes when I crank the engine I think its started and it sort of struggles to keep alive, wether the revs got too low at one point and it switched the power steering off via the computer but the engine managed to stay running, that could be one possibility, but yeh apart from that I really dont know.

Took the LV Focus XR5T in for it's 3000km service on Monday. No problems at all with it. I thought I would wait for it to be done but I was told it would be fitted in some time during the day. I spoke to my salesman who was kind enough to offer me a their demo FPV FG F6 auto for a loaner for the day. How's that for service!!!

The XR5 is built in Germany, the rest of the model range (not sure about the TDCi or CC) are built in South Africa. I'm assuming they are continuing this setup with the LV when the lower models are released, and then continue to do that until the Focus is made here.

Spec Level: LX auto hatch KMs at time of fault: 45,000 km Symptoms: Engine cutting out when cruise control decelerating Fault: Engine cutting out when cruise control decelerating Fixed? By: Yes, by Strapp Ford Doncaster Comments: This is my sister's car just bought second hand a few weeks ago from Yarra Ranges Ford. The engine would cut out when you would decelerate to 40km/h using the cruise control decelerate button. Strapp Ford said it was a dirty throttle body which they cleaned out. Problem is now gone and engine no longer cuts out. They tried to charge my sister $55 for spraying a bit of carby cleaner in the throttle body. My sister refused to pay as she was never informed of the cost before they fixed the problem. Strapp Ford obliged. Never heard of this happening to another car. Does the Focus have an electronic throttle/throttle body? Maybe it had something to do with this? Last edited by mohit; 25-01-2009 at 06:30 PM. |

If she bought the car from a Ford Dealer, it would've taken more than a few weeks for the Throttle Body to deposit crap in it, they should've given it a clean before they even sold it as part of their used car policy. If she paid for it then I would've gone back with the reciept and demanded a refund with interest because they shouldn't charge for that. They really are sharks when it comes to servicing, 150+ for a filter and oil change is ludacris (considering it takes 20 minutes at the most drive in and drive out and $40 dollars of consumables). $60 at the most for that. But in your scenario definately not pay a cent.

Spec Level: LX auto hatch KMs at time of fault: 45,000 km Symptoms: Glove box light staying on, squeak from engine bay, tail gate rattle Fault: Glove box light staying on, squeak from engine bay, tail gate rattle Fixed? By: Yes, by Strapp Ford Doncaster Comments: This is my sister's car just bought second hand a few weeks ago from Yarra Ranges Ford. The glove box light would not turn off when the glove box lid was closed. Ford tried adjusting the glove box light switch but no go. They replaced the switch under warranty. Light now stays off. Squeaking noise coming from engine bay when going over bumps or when changing gears when stationary. Ford removed, lubricated and refitted the left hand side engine mount. Noise now gone. Hatch tail gate would rattle when going over bumps. Ford adjusted the tail gate striker and catch. Rattle now gone. The first issue was fixed under warranty. The second and third issues cost about $100 to fix. Just want to say that apart from these niggly little issues which have all been fixed the car has been great. So great that mum bought a new 2008 LT LX auto hatch a couple of weeks ago from Strapp Ford Doncaster. |

By:Faulty part replaced by City Ford Rockdale under warranty. Complimentary car wash and vacuum too I believe the City Ford service department has improved alot since I first got the car and would highly recommend them. There were quite a few Focus' in their workshop so they might have had alot of practice. Last edited by Stugots; 06-02-2009 at 12:02 PM. |

When i picked up the 07 duratec motor for a rwd Escort conversion , I pulled the intake manifold off ... I was supprised of the amount of crap inside the plastic manifold just this really fine sticky yellowish dust. The motor had only traveled 9500km when I got it from Melbourne.
