As prydey just said we only just played the ashes last year and played sth africa for six tests at the start of last year with a 3-3 finish.

Future test series coming up are 2 tests in new zealand followed by 2 tests against pakistan in england culminating the ashes in australia next summer.

I actually enjoyed the good hard fight that was put up by the touring sides. aside from the first test against the Windies and the last against Pakistan it was for me, an enjoyable summers test cricket.

not a fan of the aussie line up against pakistan in the first ODI!! bowling attack = siddle, bollinger, mckay and hauritz and watson. is johnson injured? also, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest if m.clarke stepped aside from ODI's. he has a good strike rate every now and then but most times he bats too slow. hussey also can be a bit sluggish. he is the new bevan though so don't mind him being there.

Johson is having the first 3 ODI's off for a break.

i will never understand why cricket players need a 'rest' or a 'break' from time to time.

aussies have a run chase on their hands at least. although they did just lose their 7th wicket, afridi is still there and anything can happen with 'boom boom'!

this Aamer kid can bowl a bit...good pace..left armer...swinging it.

Mind u hes probably going to get dropped or be a waste somehow.

Good innings by Afridi...it will make the chase interesting, the pitch is true though...so if australia get through this opening spell...they should chase it fine.

white again shows he is much more than a pinch hitter in the lower order. he's been given the opportunity to bat up the order a few times now and has made the most of every opportunity. i think i heard he has given up or reduced his bowling duties to concentrate on batting more. seems to be paying off.

great show by afridi but once he went they only managed another handful of runs. should've been chasing closer to 290. at least they look fairly competitive.

needed afridi!

speaking of afridi, he's got a major task tonight if pakistan want to have any hope of chasing down 270.

their young bowler looks ok - aamer. only 17 or something and nudging the 150km/h. good signs for their future.

after 2 matches i stand by my comments about clarke in the ODI arena. rather see someone like hodge (prolly getting a bit old), c.ferguson etc come back in.

pakis in real trouble today. Hard to seem them getting out of it without some major performances.

Great to see the wicket from siddle (and work by bollinger too). Its amazing what can be achieved when you bowl at least 2-3 balls an over at those three wooden stakes..... Yes, i'm talking to you Mr Johnson....

great catch by ponting. the still shot doesn't do it justice. white took a great one in the slips earlier too.

When ferguson recovers from his knee reco. we will see him slot straight back in i'd imagine, still a few months away from that.

The aussies really have been on their game this evening, a fantastic catch by white, ponting and now hauritz with a caught and bowled, fantastic to watch as an aussie supporter. Everyone attacked ponting for bowling first in the test, i can see a massive backlash for yousef in this game, looks to have been a bad decision to bowl.

Another great catch, this time by Hauritz for a c&b. Dominant display by the Aussies tonight.

Good win by the Aussies. Poor form by Pakistan for not coming down to shake hands.

Hmm.. im not sure if its me or not but this feels like the worst summer of cricket i can remember.
1 day series starts very late and virtually no games or competition...

I wouldn't say no competition in the one dayers, the Brisbane game was pretty close and we only won because of some excellent batting by Cameron White.

There were 3 tests that all but went down to wire and the first one dayer was very competetive, so while it's been pretty much a whitewash by the australians i would say it's been a pretty good summer. I think of a lot of would be the percieved weakness of the oposition, yes they are weaker sides but they've at times played some fantastic cricket.

Next summer will be big with the ashes, but for me it's been a hard fought summer.

agreed. if you look back through the thread you will notice i was one who thought it wasn't going to be much of a summer, but the 2 test series were quite decent matches.

the first one dayer was pretty tight, and the one yesterday, pakistan should've batted. you might get away with sending sides in in a test, but unless you are extremely confidant about the conditions or your ability, you should always bat first.

how good was harris yesterday. commentators seem to think he did enough to stay in the side but at who's expense? johnson still yet to play, blokes like voges and hopes waiting their turn. with the series won, look out for a new look team in perth. hussey will likely get 'rested' as will bollinger or mckay.

on another note - see the redbacks chased down 294. couldn't believe what i was seeing. the redbacks never win!

Harris bowled fantastically, The bowling stocks run deep in this country and it'll keep everyone on their toes knowing if they fail there's someone waiting to slot straight in. It's hard to pick who they'd want to drop to slot Harris in, All the bowlers are doing really well at the moment.

Looks like Watson and Bollinger to the rest for the next 2 games so that opens a batting and bowling position. With Siddle also likely to miss it'll be interesting to see who slots into the bowling spot. Who will open the batting?

Looking forward to a good weekends cricket in Perth before the first 20/20 at the MCG next friday.

great finish to the innnings by the aussies. how's the batting by hauritz? good stuff. gone from looking like only getting around 240 -250, to now go close to 280.

Personally i'm struggling to understand why they have James Brayshaw commentating, I know he played a little bit of cricket in his early days but he just isn't that great of a cricket commentator. Surely there's better people out there, someone with a bit of personality would be great.

I don't mind Slater, Taylor, Gilly, Warnie and Ritchie but the rest are way past their time and i think it's time for them to move on.

i agree with that, he is hopeless, even worse than gilchrist. when im listening to the commentary i wanna hear about the game, not what some has been did on some tour back in the day...

Brilliant catch by Haddin to back another brilliant bowling performance by Ryan Harris, 2 5 wicket innings in a row. They really need to find a permanent spot in the side for him. I have no clue who they'd leave out. At this stage i really wouldn't be putting my hand up for a rest as the players coming are putting their hands up for permanent spots.

An interesting fact, that's the first time Australia has beaten Pakistan in a one dayer at perth.

I went to the game. Not the closest match but still fun to watch. Hauritz put on a good show with the bat and Harris with the ball. Good to see the aussies win but I would have like to seen Afridi bat a little longer, he was on fire (briefly) 29 runs from 9 balls.

I just wish it was more of a contest. It's good to win, but gets boring winning by soo much all the time.
Agreed that Afridi needed to stay a bit longer, he still holds the record for fastest one day hundred.

.

all the time? sure we won the 1st game but it wasn't until the last couple of overs when c.white hit out a bit that we looked comfortable.

we can't play competitive teams all the time. all nations get their chance to come to australia and play us and there will be times when the contest is a bit one sided. its just how things go.

you just can't win sometimes. there are complaints when there is a big win, and if we lose or just scrape in, everyone wants a complete overhaul of the team 'cos they are 'useless'.
