Have to say, Im certainly preferring my work iphone 5... just seems to work so much better, which is a real shame as Im certainly an android fan

There's an app in the playstore called handcent, It's similar to the iphone message app and allows fullscreen viewing of mms messages. Once installed make sure you set it to default and turn off notifications on the factory message app.

Yeah seen all those apps sucks though for a $700 phone to have to get an app . Thanks anyway

After looking into the Iphone 5, the S3, I decided to go with the Sony Xperia T...lol!

Ive been an apple man for years, several Iphones, Ipad, and just wanted a change to be honest. But soon it became clear that literally every man and his dog had the Samsung... so thought I'd try something new.

And so far after 2 weeks, I absolutely love the Xperia. Battery life craps all over the Iphone, camera is huge, comes loaded with heaps of apps and looks / feels superb.

I downloaded and use one of he ICS keyboards. The stock Samsung keyboard really sucks for predictive text.

Your not really supposed to type on the samsung keyboard. Your supposed to drag your finger across the screen over each letter.

I agree on the predictive txt issue. My phone's predictive txt has a porn word fetish. Makes a normal txt quite embarrassing if you don't catch it in time.

just to let you guys know ... I have installed SwiftKey3 on my SGSII ... and it is miles better than the stock keyboard ... predictive text is better than the iphone was (another the only thing Apple got right on the iphone really.

There's a free trial demo to see if you like it ... and then it is a cheap purchase for the full version ... so far so good from here ... can also see your stats regarding mistakes and also a heatmap from where your finger presses on your screen as well.

Just spotted 4.1.2 released firmware over at sammobile for:

GT-I9300T Australia (Telstra)
GT-I9300T Australia (Vodafone)
GT-I9300 Australia (Optus)

I'm not sure if this is already an OTA or Kies update for you yet, but if not, then it can't be that far away.

It seems that at Voda you have to take a number, the message I got says...

Access to the software update service is provided to users in the order in which they request it. Try later.

I agree. SwiftKey is the best keyboard out there. You just mash the keys and it figures out what you are saying. It's amazing. Worth buying for sure.

Me too. A few cool little additions but nothing really major. Biggest thing I've noticed is the gallery is changed.

I got really sick of the constant shutdowns and freezes. I got my money back anyway, so I went and got an Iphone 5 today.

I can say that i don't like the missing back button. Sorting it out slowly. Still a little laggy, but the physical size is much better that the S3.

Well telstra have offered to change my phone to 4G but if I want to keep the 3G one I have to pay $240 or send it back. Given a 3G sells used on fleebay for $400, it might be better to pay telstra, get the 4G phone and make some money lol.

I think my memory card is on its way out also. Its a Sandisk 32 gig SDHC.
I get strange messages like sd card unexpectedly unmounted, or sd card corrupted etc. My music and playlists are stored on the SD and when I go to use them the music ap shows nothing there. I go in further to the music ap and it shows up all the songs in the top menu but no playlists. After a minute or two the playlists finally show up. I use the music for a while, then leave the phone on idle for a while and the songs have all disappeared again.
The worst bit is the battery life seems severly effected also. Tried a reformat via the phone and it still does the same. It still works on my computer for now.
I did a few battery benchmark tests - phone full charged at 12am, down to 69% by 10am with no use and blocking mode on. Memory card in, mobile data, bluetooth etc all off. Many aps are also disabled on the phone. It has done worse on one night it went from 100% to 60%.
Next night, full charge at 12am, down to 96% at 10am with no memory card in, blocking mode on and all data stuff etc off. Last night, same as above but with mobile data on, went from 100% to 95%.

So far the card still reads ok on my computer, but after doing some looking around on the net it seems like another common issue that maybe the phones are burning the cards out.

This is my personal phone so it isn't used like my business ones, but overall its a good phone. I came from an Apple 4s before this one. To compare the software of the Apple to Samsung, I like the freedom of the Android software, I like that you can do more with it and it's flexibility from a tinkerers point of view, but as far as refinement and multitasking goes the IOS wins hands down.

Your battery usage should be better than that. I am a moderate to heavy phone user. Mine comes off charge at 3:45am and is still at 48% at 6pm. I use mobile data at work for the gps as well but I try and limit it. Gps chews threw the battery.

Super roo make sure your screen brightness is not set to auto. The large screen at full brightness will use excessive battery.

I wasn't aware of this nonsense until brenx mentioned a few pages back that this functionality is turned off in Australia because of patent issues. I know for a fact that in Europe, Asia, and NZ you can move the dock icons.
I suspect that ivorya has either flashed his phone with a ROM from another country or maybe purchased his phone online from an overseas retailer.

If you want this functionality back, you'll either need to root your phone (this will allow you to edit a config file to turn it back on), or flash a ROM from another country (root not required).

[Edit: Or try another launcher like Nova launcher etc...]

I didn't know about this issue last week but yep, it seems others are having it too. I think the battery drain is caused by all this mounting/unmounting stuff going on when the SD card is in your phone.
Lots of things you can try out to fix this on the net but because it is not affecting me, I gave up.

Have you tried talking to Samsung about it?

My excessive battery usage is down to the faulty memory card. When that is removed the consumption returns to what it should be. As DaveD said and I concur, it is the phone trying to continually re-mount the faulty memory card. I have thrown another smaller one in there now to see if that also craps out. So far power consumption is normal.

I looked at and tried some of the solutions on the net for the cards, I think it will have to go back to Sandisk to see if they will warranty it.

I did see some of the people who had the same issues tried to talk to Samsung about it with no help there. They are using the standard excuse that its not a Samsung card in it, so it isn't their problem..

Just been down to a new Samsung store in high point (Maribyrnong Melb) to have a look at a new phone as i have`nt bought a phone for years, still got an old faithful 6150 nokia and a hand me down old smart phone of my young brothers, in all honesty i probably use the smart phone to about 10% of it`s capacity.
however i like the look of the bigger screens having old codgers disease (dodgey eye`s ), any way i looked at a gs3 and a note book 2, both look very flash ,

the first thing i did was ask the sales guy if i could wack the notebook in my pocket to try it on for size as i had heard people say how large it was.
i found it to be not a pain as i expected it to be, it probably stuck out of my t`shirt pocket about a centimetre and a half, which to me is probably not a bad thing, i`ll never lose sight of it.

even though i will probably not use the phone for even a quarter of it`s capability,
a couple of things i like about it, obviously the big screen is bloody awesome for an old dude with very average eye sight, but also it has apparently a pretty good gps ?
So with that i get rid of having to swap charge cables from ciggy lighter to my mobile to my old tom tom in the car and then after use in the car my phone and Gps stays in my pocket, one less thing to worry about with light fingered buggers in super market car parks etc.

Doing a bit of research about the s/galaxy note 2, one model apparently has the capability to do faster uploads and downloads (forgive me if this has already been mentioned).
also with the notebook it has a slightly faster processor over the sg3 qaud cor 1.4 gb vs qaud core 1.6, from memory like the sg3 , the note can be had with various amounts of ram , up to 64 gb, and standard battery size is a whopping 3100 mAH.

The pen thing looked very impressive, something that will no doubt take a bit of getting used to,
The model i was looking at top of the line(not sure what ram it came with though) apparently N7105t i had a bit of a look for prices on line and the note could be had for $448.00 free delivery to main city`s,
i have to say i`m a bit dubious about buying a pricey bit of kit online even though it is cheap, you hear some horror stories getting warranty from some of these on line mobs.
The new store Samsung store i visited today was also giving a promotional accessory pack with the note worth $250.00 according to the salesman, not sure if it comes with other phones, the note2 from the same store price was $799.00.
even though it is expensive(well it is to me) i get a gps out of it as well so that makes it look a good proposition (sorry for the long post).

lashed out and bought the note 2....Galaxy 3`s big brother ,
my brother came with me as he had to see about a warranty claim for his samsung nexus?, his works fine but the screen has lines across it, only just visible, not a bad omen i hope !
i thought you would be interested in this Rodge,
i can`t really do a proper test of the note 2, as i don`t as yet have sim card for it, i`ll get that next week, but on the way home my brother fired it up before we headed off, and connected it via wireless to his nexus,

so in effect i used his gps system that was already set up...................... on my phone, and it worked very well using the google maps which monitors traffic also, but supplys no speed readings as yet, apparently there`s an app for that.
initial impression of the phone is very good, screen clarity and picture is MAGNIFICENT !, my internet is very slow at the moment(down to dial up speed) so i can`t really give any good impression on that, , except to say when i did get a spurt of band width it seemed to work well.

I chose as an accessory the allshare pack(promotional freebie), it allows you to wirelessly transmit a movie or music clip or emails/whatever from the phone to the tv( i think),
so far it won`t install, i can see it trying to work but it fails, i suspect it`s a verification code not recognized/software or something , not worried about it at the moment as the phone hardware seems to be working fine everywhere else.

one thing i will call like i see it and that is the samsung phone cover/folder thing, it came as a bonus for the new shop opening, the original snap on rear cover of the phone comes off and the replacement rear cover has a firm plasticy cover attached to it by some sort of flexible stuff, like vinyl,

i have to say if you drop the phone the flap on the screen can just flop around like fido`s donger, and it does`nt quite even make the full size of the phone , so ....... if it lands edge first from a decent height your very expensive phone is gonna have a hard hit.
i will be immediately sourcing one of those rubber/silicon ones that protect the extremities/edges of the phone and buy a screen cover, about the only nice thing i can say for the flip cover is if you put the phone on a desk nicely and and something falls/scrapes across the cover it will protect the screen, but other than that......... imo it`s bloody rubbish.
i did give the the camera a quick go and it seemed frikken awesome to me i have to say, but i know bugger all about camara`s so test that one for yourself.

the vehicle dock was also in the package, no use to you guys that have inbuilt gps, but i guess as a general phone holder still very good imo, i have to say it is a very sturdee thing by the feel of it and the mechanism by which it clamps the phone is very cool,
i might also ad the suction cup thing was quiet big in area and when i gave it a bit of a tug it felt like it would never come off off the screen.

getting back to the all share pack , it appears some other models have also had some niggles getting it to fire up, so if you buy this item............... get the guy to set it up first in the showroom .
i played a bit of a movie from our home computer standard wireless thing, it worked fine, again the screen picture is bloody amazing,

i just used the standard note speaker and it was very loud for a little single phone speaker, loud enough for me to want to turn it down a tad, sound was ok for a little speaker , but a little stretched at full throttle as you would expect.

there are so many features on thing it will take a while to learn how to operate them all, my young brother after having a play with it is already thinking about ditching his other newish phone, he was very impressed with the phone in general and the last thing he said was , "it fits in your hand nicely" eyeing it off like kid in a candy shop,

the general fuctions of the phone seem fairly easy to use.
every thing has nice big buttons on screen, to make a phone call after turning the unit on , is one click to bring the home screen up and one tap on the green phone icon and your ready to put your number in,

even though it has the pencil thing, i could easily use the keyboard with my clumsy fingers easily, never been able to do that with any mobile i have ever used before, all in all so far so good, well worth a look for either of the galaxy phones imo, i did have a look at the SG3, lots of similar functions, sort of like comparing a gt 335 to a the gt-p 335 , not quite as many, but it looked very good too.
