Would have been better off with a Barra 6, keeping with it's straight 6 roots.

Agreed! Even the N/A would make it a rocket ship.

Well. I went against my own prediction and sold one of the Ford Traders as a cab chassis for double the price I bought it for 20 years previously with 1/2 million kms on the clock.

I don't get it.

Back in June 2021 I was in need of a new daily and was particularly interested in a VF2 SSV Redline.

At the time for an SSV redline you were looking at upwards of 60-70k for 2015-16 models with well over 100,000kms.

I ended up with a 2017 Caprice V with 55,000kms, additional features, additional space and paid $45k.

I thought that was pretty good value for an LS3 family hack compared with the SS and Calais variants.

At least with those things I can see them being rugged enough for towing/working to pay themselves off, but a Corolla.

Mustn’t be in too much of a hurry to sell it… It was sitting in their showroom nearly a year ago when I bought a car there.,

A subset of this thread, wondering what smaller car “nuggets” are good buying as a generality - not per specific examples. Good meaning durable in the face of a little neglect, and easily resourced in repair.

When I spoke to them last year, they weren’t too fussy about moving it…
Not sure who actually owns it? Possibly the DP?

When I worked FIFO, my employer had 20-30 Hyundai Getz for the truck drivers to use to/from their accomodation or to go into town.
There was no service schedule for them, until the last couple of years I was there.
Other than servicing, I can’t recall one being in the workshop for any repair.

I’ve known one or two that had auto failures, but likely utter neglect otherwise. Driven with broken motor mounts, that sort of thing. Almost candidates for “Just Rolled In”.

+1 for Hyundai Getz, they're a great nugget car - tough as nails, had a customer who decided servicing her car was optional and at 200,000km which she owned from new, with little servicing that thing was still taking punishment no dramas.

I think we need to do a revaluation on the best nugget cars, what's the best value for spondoolies in this new ridiculous nugget market we're experiencing.

What's the best nugget under $3000, must link to carsales links.

Feels like the days of getting a $750 car with remaining rego are long gone.

Are we talking little cars? Starlet or Echo might be great nugget buzzbox contenders

Or just something that can take punishment? Saw a couple of AUII Fairmonts 200,000km $3400 on carsales, that kind of thing
