So does that mean that if some of these design cues are also part of our historical past that we too are bogans or portions there of?

Even though AMG Mercs are very bling bling pimptastic, love it or hate them the designs work. With the sort of prices those Mercs go for, maybe theyre a cashed up bogans idea of what a euro performance car looks like?

Ian, just quitely I believe the likes of you, or I are quite possible bogans, or portions there of.. I'm just looking at the 'historical' styling cues on this latest model and are left totally comfortable and at home with them and it's not even a Ford.

I think the latest HSV is big enough, fat enough, fast enough and bold enough to pull it off. The very nature of the VE shape represents total over kill, unlike the the more stuble cues of the FG. Don't get me wrong, I think the FG looks great (I bought one), but as the bogan I must be, I would like to see Ford/FPV get a little over the top, a little wild more often, without resorting to vinyl or painted highlights to create a statement. The last time I bore witness to this was with the launch of the T3 and boy was I a proud blue blood then.

The 6.2-litre LS3 V8 has been tuned to now deliver 325kW and features a Competition Mode within the electronic brain that sharpens the throttle response and relaxes the intervention from the ESP. A launch control function will be fitted on manual versions, which optimises the revs of consistent sub five-second sprints to triple figures.

And the GTS can also be fitted with the six-piston brakes from the 7.0-litre W427. All other models continue with the 317kW LS3, although HSV claims to have made significant improvements in fuel economy.

From a visual perspective, all variants receive a striking new front bumper with the aforementioned LEDs, plus a revised rear bumper with inegrated stainless-steel exhaust tips. All apart from the Senator will feature the Pontiac G8 GXP's twin-scooped bonnet.

As part of the expanded options list, the Clubsport R8 can now be ordered with a new sports suspension that is 25 percent stiffer and 10 mm lower

Even though I dont like the looks of this new HSV, I have never liked any HSV vehicle at launch but after time have grown to like them. I would be interesting to see what they do with Senator and Grange.

OMG...

The VS GTS-R has better design flow than the e2, that is seriously shocking. Its an autobarn special, does every panel really need a vent or some gimmick on it?

What I will give them points for is keeping their brand easily identifiable.

That’s one way to look at it.

Another is that the W427 allowed for such development in the first place and now the option and luxury for that development continues on as an option closing the gap or hole in the developmental budget.

The one thing that does surprise me is that HSV have elected to try and market 327. At 325 that opportunity is gone. Anything adding 2 kws will be seen as a joke.

Perhaps ther next R8 movement might be to go to 327

As myself and others noted when the spy pics were leaked...this is not a cohesive design. What the straight on shot does not illustrate (but the now confirmed spy pics do) is that the front of the new E2 is very elongated. It has a probiscus style nose (like Ford uses globally) and is going for an almost 'sleek' look in profile. But then you see the squared off VE body (particualry the haunches/wheel arches) and it just doesnt work. To top it off they went for some very commonly used tricks to make it aggressive - the eyebrows above the foglights are very pronounced to try and 'push out' the front airdam. The audi style LED running lights are way too low and too big - why they are integrated into the fog lights i have no idea - when the fogies are on the yellow and white LED lights will look very bad. The trapezoidal grill is also a little curious...given it is used by their direct competitor and frankly does not work at all with the rest of the front end treatment. Plus they went for bonnet scoops too...oh please if there were any more intake holes in the front of this thing it would be a fighter jet!!!!

Some may say it is just the usual HSV 'aggression' styling. BUT, love it or hate it the VE HSVs were intergrated. The black plastic fog light set up was a bit try hard but other than that it was a mean, squred off, teutonic look. This is fussy, very fussy. Also some of the optoins they have taken are very strange....i cant' think of any other car that has a twin nostrel upper grill (angular at that) but has a fully open trapezoidal lower grill...it doesn't work. No wonder people are saying it looks 'aftermarket'....this is exactly what happens in many cases when people fit ebay style kits to their cars. The lower valence looks great by itself but is a disaster when combined with the rest of the nosecone (lights/upper grill etc.).

In general i wait to see a few examples of a car in the flesh before i make up my mind but this one i don't think i have to. It doesn't work.

Also, this "fastest aussie made" stuff is nonsense.
Fastest Aussie Assembled more like it as over 87% of the components are foreign. Screw Holden and their Bogan Special Vehicles.

As always the new models will bring conflicting opinions, myself i think they look pretty good. The front is a little busy but i'll wait till i see one in the flesh before i make judgement. One thing hsv offers is three types of rims which is neat even though i'm not a big fan of any of them. The price on the rims is a bit rich.

The demand for these cars will outstrip supply for the first few months. Seems most new hsv's sell well on release. Senator is probably the pick imo.

God DAMN how did they manage to stick so many unrelated plastic wings, flares and scoops together?

So someone else noted, the rear end of the Senator looks aweful, and the ute seriously looks like a Hot Wheels kit car from 1953..........

I dunno, if I like it yet. I'll have to do the same and wait until i see them in the flesh. But one thing I will say is that they have gone to a new level with their designs, it definately is different.

Also I'm very sceptical about those rims. They look dodgy.

I have to agree completely. I can’t remember a HSV launch where none of the wheel designs have been any good.

There is some interesting stuff that we probably will get next year. The update Bosch stuff is just an evolution of what we use so I think it’s safe to expect FPV picking up the same features.

Competition mode sounds interesting so I look forward to reading how that works. The w427 brake option seem to be priced keenly and none to very little in the way of a price rise is certain to keep a lid on FPV movements too.

My initial reaction is that it’s a design that tries too hard. It’s a very happening car that for sure and that not necessarily a good thing.

I can’t really pick cars form photos any more so will wait to see it in the flesh but on first impressions it doesn't work for me. The wheels are a huge let down.

On the plus side HSV have again pushed some development buttons. I like the innovations and leadership they bring to the category.
