Clearly things are returning to normal, our PM seems to think we need to be sorted more or less by Mother’s Day (or else?!?)... Retailers are in concurrence; I’m getting the “Treat your Mum” emails from everyone except Dignitas.

CoronaSafe is superb ! BTW my neighbour basically told me I was putting the health and well being of the entire Milky-way Galaxy at risk because I refused to install the PoS.
https://www.theregister.co.uk/2020/0...ng_app_issues/ Australian contact-tracing app sent no data to contact-tracers for at least ten days after hurried launch.
It doesn't play well on iPhones, but bureaucrats rushed it out rather than wait months for perfection. Meanwhile, serious bug reports have emerged... |

Back in Sydney for the week again....
Cannot wait to get back to Newie- lately being dragged to work in the Sydney CBD far to often for my liking. Looking over the skyline over Mascot airport and the horizon South I notice 2 things compared to the second week of the Covid 19 lockdown in Sydney: 1. The is more big jet movement in and out- still very low frequency- but is now some action. 2. Skyline has now again that rustbelt- not anywhere near as bad as pre covid 19 shutdown, but the Sydney Skyline is not that pristine skyline after week 2 of the shutdown. There is more traffic flows- so I think there is an opening up.

I am noticing bottlenecks again on the commute home.
There is definitely a noticeable rise in the traffic on the road. People do not seem to have the same fear of the virus that was present in the beginning. Social distancing in public is so so. Some people are ignoring it. We have either weathered the storm or will be all in lock down again in a few weeks.

21 new cases for Australia but no deaths yesterday so the CMR drops to 1.407% and active cases to 11%. Victoria had 14 of the new cases, NSW had 3, Queensland 2 and SA, which had been case free for two weeks, had 1.
NZ had one new case and no deaths so the CMR also dropped to 1.410% and active cases to 10.1%. The UK had a little over 5.5k new cases and 539 deaths. The CMR dropped to 14.81% but active cases are up to 84.9%. The USA was over 25k new cases again with more than 2k deaths so the CMR rises to 5.922% and active cases to 77.2%. The trend graph below is cause for concern in the two States impacted and should server as notice that we aren't yet out of the woods.

I think now we are seeing signs of the economy starting to come to life again which is leading to more normal volumes of traffic back on the road, rather than restrictions being lifted. Generally people aren't just driving around. Restrictions will limit those who are just out doing non essential shopping but the bulk of traffic is made up of employers and employees going about their business. As annoying as it is, its a good sign. I don't think its a sign of people ignoring restrictions but rather like i said, the economy starting to come back to life.

Yes I think it's a sign some are finding a way to get back to work.
I walk past Huntingdale train station (Melbourne) most mornings with the dog. Car park was always full early pre Covid 19. Has been almost empty for weeks, about half full this morning. Huntingdale is the closest station to Monash Uni, no sign of the thousands of students that used it daily. I'm still able to work each day, I see the traffic is increasing but not nearly what it was pre Covid.

As mentioned above, I don't believe it's compliance fatigue. Maybe I have a different view on society in general but I think the majority actually do the right thing. The ones you see on the news are not a majority.

They have announced a 3 stage lifting of restrictions so basically it seems by July we should be largely open if no major spikes.
So it would probably be stage 1 by end of May. Then if no issues, stage 2 by end of June etc. I think this plan largely balances economic and health concerns. States will still determine when it actually happens though. |

Victoria is probably going to be nearly the last State to ease restrictions given the recent upturn in new case rates. The roads have been a lot busier however so people are obviously starting to make their own decisions regardless of the mandates in place.

But ASX doesn't ask for proof of age. (Franco only looks about 15 )

ACT going ahead with changing restrictions from midnight. Basically lifting caps up to between 10 and 30 people on certain restrictions.
https://www.covid19.act.gov.au/news-...ons-8-may-2020 I have noticed the last week a significant increase in traffic so plenty of people getting back to it now. Last edited by MITCHAY; 08-05-2020 at 05:06 PM. |
