My practically-new Nokia 3315 (well, not even a year old) is now almost useless, I don't know what happened to it, but the screen no longer works properly, I can't see a damn thing on it, which makes it completely useless for SMS or most other things you use a modern mobile phone for. So I've decided that if I'm going to replace it, I might as well get something a bit better.
I want to get one that has an in-built camera, but asides from that (and obviously a colour screen to go with the camera) it doesn't have to have much more in the way of bells and whistles. I don't want to spend more then $200 if I can help it (even $200 is stretching the budget a bit too far really), and it can't be locked, because I'll need to put in my current SIM card (Telstra) to check my voicemail at the very least on a regular basis. I've been looking at the SAGEM MyV-55 and MyC5-2 from Vodafone (I'm leaning towards the MyV-55 out of the two of them on the basis of lower price & more features), which both fit the criteria, has anybody had any experience with them, or can recommend any others I should look at? Thanks in advance.

that phone isn't even avaliable yet and it judging by it's features like a top range model which will probably cost about $600-$800 when it arrives
Have a look on ebay, lots of good phones on there for under $200 and some camera ones to. good luck |

Ebay is def good for cheap new and second hand phones.
Dick Smith also sell phones outright (as well as on plans). The link below is some of what I found after punching in mobile phone in their search feature on the site : http://dseau.resultspage.com/search....t_site_product

I don't know why, but the Nokia phones seem to be the only ones that I find reliable enough to use every day :
The Motorola Vxxx series flip phones have firmware problems and cease up, and most other cheaper brand phones are cheaper for a reason. I'd go with either a Sony Ericcson or a Nokia. For $200 you can get a series 40 Nokia Camera phone (7250i, 6610i, 3200). |

I'd go for a 3G phone, but thats probably a bit out of the budget because 3G is just being launched, the Sony Ericsson V800(Vodafone only) and Z800 (all) are said to be the best 3G ones. Hopefully I'll get one soon

I've also been looking at the Sagem v-55 from Vodaphone (as I'm already on pre-paid with them). I REALLY like the Sharp CX-30i, but at nearly $700 I don't think that will happen:(
The features of the V-55 are impressive. There are a couple of tricks with it though. The software that comes with it, for USB connection to PC, is useless. Thare is a better version of it about, that works well. Check out these sites: http://www.mobile-review.com/forum2/...splay.php?f=22 http://www.gsmarena.com/sagem_my_v_55-821.php

Ok Mad,
Here's a website I have found useful and it does have reviews of most phones. http://www.imobile.com.au It's not got all of them, but it has most and they have tried and tested them. For example, they point out that some phones are so small that anyone with big fingers will find it impossible to operate them etc. Also you can try yahoo and search (australia) for the phone model you want and type in "+review" and it should come up with something.

I had a Sony Ericsson T68i. What a piece of crap. I'll never get one of their phones again. Only Nokia for me.

Have you thought of taking it to Nokia for repair ?
I had my 6230 upgraded while I waited. They have a 24hr turnaround and will give you aloan phone. If you still want to get rid of it, sell it on ebay and buy something better. |

Ill sell you my nokia 3650 for $200, it will do anything you can want, camera, video, memory card, bluetooth so you can transfer files to your computer. You can download heaps of games and other applications. Ill give you a CD full of games, programs, screensavers and backgrounds, handsfree and a genuine nokia fast charger. I paid $700 for it last year but won a sharp gx30 from work, now Im with orange and cant use them :( But my fone bills are about $140 cheaper than before!!

Ive had my run with nokia phones and I am never going back. Ive got an ericsson K700i and have been really happy with it. Only one small glitch with the firmware but thats it. Been a bloody good phone compared to all the nokias Ive had with nothing but problems.

I have a K700i as well, I have had a few Sony Ericssons in the past and hated them, but this one is excellent! My only real complaint is the way the cover for the charger port, handsfree etc is set up.

After having owned 3 Nokia's I went for something different with my last phone upgrade and got a Sony Ericsson T610 and have never looked back. Awesome phone, and these days you could probably pick one up quite cheap.

A series 40 cameraphone (3200, 7250i, 6610i) would be the go, they are cheap, easy to use and made by nokia. Personaly i will not touch any thing else than a nokia.

I should know, I work in mobiles at Retravision, we get broken screens in all the time, and no hassles with the repairs.

I have a sony ericsson T630 with camera, bluetooth etc.., its my 11th phone since 2001 so they cop a beating. This one is pretty good (i've dropped it, the front is scuffed but i did the smart thing and got insurance for it, its insured for $670), i've found the nokia's i've owned in the past to be flimsy and over rated. I want a motorola next ;)

The screen going blank is a common problem on the Nokia 3315. My experience with Nokia's is that they are only made to last 3 years.
Don't bother fixing it, if you want a cheap phone go to Cash Converters, Happy Hockers etc. I threw out my 3315 and bought a Sony K500i. It has it's good points and bad points. The good points are: 1. Large screen that's easy to see. 2. Has a large memory to store ring tones and mp3s 3. Loud volume Bad points: 1. The connections for charging and hands free is pathetic (what were they thinking?) 2. You can't charge the phone and have a ear piece in at the same time (see point 1) 3. The buttons are too small for a man to use 4. You can't supply your own message alert. It sounds like I'm bitching but I actually do like my phone and would probably buy another Sony.
