cant recall the XD's coming out with factory spotlights. My S Pac didnt thats for sure. Seem to remember some of the rally pack escorts had Ford spotties on them or even the 80's cortinas

Pics would certainly help.

My Mum's old 1980 TE Cortina GL X-Pac 4.1 4-sp manual had a set of Hella spotlights ... option fitted from factory (along with the bumper overriders as well ... was an ex-demo ... also had the vinyl roof as well ... in silver.

That was a surprisingly good vehicle ... was really comfy and reliable ... she loved that car ... and it went hard from memory (for it's day).

I vaguely remember the spots being available for the XD. What ever I'm thinking of looked poxy at the time.

Before I took delivery of an XD (chit thats 30 yrs ago) the dealer fitted a Ford driving light bracket for my Bosch. The bracket mounted behind the grille and 2 tabs poked out the bottom for the lights.

When I got an XE, mounting lights wasn't as easy so I whacked a Hella Rallye 2000 on it. If I remember correctly, the XE S Pack was optioned with Hella 181s under the bar.

edit: it's a random photo, not mine

I vaguely remember the mounts coming from the grille as well on the Cortina ... probably the same sort of setup you mention as well. As the lights weren't mounted on the bar at all.

Photo looks like my parents old XD they had when i was young, Except theirs had big wide fat tires and chrome wheels from what I remember.

It also had lots of chrome under the bonnet that I remember we cleaned up before selling it.

XD 'S' pack had them. They were round and as previously stated had mounts coming through the grille.
XE 'S' pack were rectangular and were mounted below the bumper.
Both the 'S' packs got the front lower black bumper strip or "spoiler" as well as different side stripes.

FOG LAMP ID: Near the "E mark", which is the letter 'E' (representing worldwide homologation/approval) in a circle with a number next to it (that represents the testing country) eg; "E13" - will be the letter "B", example "02B". This letter "B" represents a complianced FRONT fog lamp.

A DRIVING LAMP will bear near its E mark, the letter "R" representing a complianced driving lamp, example; "HR" - meaning halogen driving lamp.

Yank system FOG = "F" for fog. Driving = "Y".
