Done.
I was looking forward to a nice shady spot in the new grandstand, but now I'll just have to persevere with my sombrero.

Your kidding me right. The old stand was meant to be looked after by the Racing Club, they didn't do it for years even after ACC condemned the stand. The State Govt & Vic' Park are complete liars. What cheeses them off is the whole thing is owned by the City Council & there ain't nothing they can do about it.
Also, why should taxpayers, local & state subsidise the Clipsal race & the Jockey Club ? Think about that. The people that will make money on it won't fund it's future upkeep, just like what is happening now with the maintenance of Victoria Park, all paid for by the Adelaide City Council. There is nothing in the local govt act that says they have to fund 'entertainment events' on this scale. I worked at the ACC when the old stand was condemned, council begged the jockey club to look after it. Suggest you drop in and have a look at it, see the state of disrepair, it was so bad it couldn't even be heritage listed 15 years ago. Sorry for the rant but it will cost the ratepayers in Adelaide a lot for years to come. |

If its not viable for the promoters, then the track has no future. Unless Im missing something. To put it another way, would you like your wages garnished to fund my business? |

Mind you, the state government has been illegally building on the parklands for decades - it's the city council that own the parklands btw. |
