Hi guys I was refused insurance for my Ba xr6 turbo as the company said it has mods.
So my question is for you guys that have a few mods, Whois your insurer? I need to get insurance asap for my ba xr6 turbo which is lowered, aftermarket exhaust, cooler and injectors. Any help would be appreciated. |

Not sure what State you are in, but RACV in Victoria has been user friendly
But I would try Shannons for your car

Which insurer? Just cars and Shannon's are amenable to legal mods.
When dealing with insurance types is when they find out I have two cars they try and roll the second into the quote. My response is do you insure modified cars? Usually falls flat. Also had the lucky your with mob try and talk me out of a cancellation on the basis of being super dooper platinum despite reducing the payout figure and increasing the premium. Rule with insurance - shop around and switch often. Loyalty doesn't count if you want a good deal. Loyalty makes you a sucker in their eyes. |

AAMI for me and as long as I inform them of the mods its covered. They've been really good for me for many years. And each year they are always the cheapest after doing the proper research.

So long as all the mods are legal, you should have no problems.

Over the phone.
Just spoke with RACV and I'm now covered with them. They don't care about mods, As long as car is in rwc condition and safe to drive they are happy. |

Are all your mods that require engineering engineered. If not then the car isn't roadworthy. I have seen a couple claims knocked back because of this. |

If you require the pcm to be reprogrammed via chip or sct unit, it would probably be the mod that Insurers often label as a "chip" mod. Insurers in their mod schedules often refer to -has your car been chipped- code for running a unique tune that is non standard.
So myself, when I eventually SCT tune my car, I will disclose to the Insurer that I have had the car custom tuned. No point having "insurance" without disclosing mod, wiping out a $200,000 vehicle, and have the insurer decline indemnity on the basis that had you disclosed the mod they would not have insured you. If you do have "insurance", not disclose a mod, and the insurer would have insured you with the mod but for a higher premium, they will be obliged to indemnify you but you would have to pay the additional premium they would have levied had you disclosed the mods.

Can an insurance claim really be knocked back for an undisclosed mod even if it in no way contributed to the accident?
I use NRMA and only have legal modifications on my cars, but they don't list individual vehicle modifications on the policy its just up to you to ensure your vehicle is legal and covered for an amount you are satisfied with. |

How old are you mate? that always factors into it, personally I'm with youi and they don't seem to care about mods as long as you are upfront with them

Your relationship with an insurer is a contractual one. No need for the mod to cause accident, causation is a requirement in a negligence claim- ie a negligent driver's negligence caused the accident. If you do not disclose a mod, and an Insurer says that had you disclosed the mod they would not have provided you cover (and they are accepted that their in house policy procedures would not have insured your mod) - you have no cover....on your own....Is simple case of contract- what the parties agreed mutually when entering into the contract (ie the policy)

I even flicked through the PDS and it doesn't go into a great deal about modifications other than stating that they ARE covered. http://www.nrma.com.au/sites/default...r_PDS_1215.pdf |

I use Shannons for my modified cars. You can list everything and then have no worries whether you're covered or not at claim time.

some insurance companies will cover modifications, but there is normally fine print saying "legal" mods, many mods on late model cars are not legal and could possibly rise up as a problem come claim time
