Agreed. There are a couple on Carsales advertised near on that price. But as always "it's only worth what someone is willing to pay"!

Shame, hope he had it insured.
It's something I sometimes worry about with my cars, most of which are laid up at the moment.

Methinks that car be worth more dead than alive, assuming it was insured.

Insurance will give him 30-35k at best imo.
I can feel his pain though.

It's not a BF Cobra, this was a 40th Anniversary GT, a real collectable, not an also ran after thought sold to the suckers that missed out on the BF GT 40th
40K because he could go buy another one for 40K My daily run around XB ute is insured for 40K, pretty sure a real collectable anniversary BF GT would be worth more than my parts getter. Hopefully he has agreed value insurance, and will get enough to replace the vehicle he has lost.

I can feel his pain.
My daughters partner lost his recently completed XB ute in a garage fire at our house earlier this year. Fortunately the house was saved before it took hold. Hopefully they will be back in by Christmas. |

Who give a toss what a bf cobra is worth?
A GT 40 anni would not sell for anything over 40K There is one with under 100km for sale at 70 for the last 6 months. For those $$ people are buying S/C 5.0s |

For the owner to replace his car he would have to find someone willing to part with their car for 40K, which is unlikely. That's why we have agreed value insurance.
Please show me where he or I can buy a BF GT 40th anniversary for 40K...

What do you mean 'at least'?? Plenty of BF Cobras for sale at much lower prices though, probably because there is an oversupply of them.

GT 40th is a sexy looking car but its a GT with stripes (290). It did get the R spec suspension but most of that would be changed out by now with aftermarket as it gets old.
302 is harder, more $$ to replicate (not that you would) which makes it more unique I would have thought. Id own both.

There is more to an anniversary GT than stripes, it's a limited edition vehicle with very limited production (and a few have already been written off and destroyed). The owner in this case who lost his, should be able to replace it with another one (provide he has it insured for correct value). No current owner I know of is currently willing to hand their car over for 40K as suggested by some here. There are less than 200 BF GT 40th, there are around 400 Cobras not counting the utes, this can also be seen in the number of Cobras for sale (lots) and on average asking prices are 20-30K less than an anniversary GT in similar condition, this is based on vehicles currently for sale. These are the facts, what people do with them is up to them.

40th is still my most favourite modern day GT out of all of them made. The Cobra to me just looks tacky. Also it seems most buyers bought the Cobras as an investment, i quite regularly see 40ths driving around. If anyone here can find me one exactly the same condition as the one in the fire for 40k i will buy it, I am serious as well. I have not seen an immaculate one on carsales come up for anything less that 50k in the last two years.

Hope the link works. Probably better than the one he had only 89 km on the clock, however his lad said they had spent some time building it up so can only presume they have spent some money on modifications. Cheaper ones to be found with more km's . Cheers Ryan

And why not buy the ones that were 50K? I'm sure you could have squeezed it down to $45K and it's a long way from being worth $100K, and a relative bargain.
IMO if you want to (or have to) move one on, you'd be doing well to get $40K |

For what it's worth, I know of one that was sold up Qld way for no more than $40k (know the guy). It was a couple of years ago, so may not be relevant to the above, however just FYI.
Also there's an old link on Autotrader from around 2013 that had one advert for sub $40k. In saying that, if it was a low klm and in great and original condition car, I would have thought them worth a little more than $40k. But I wouldn't sell my TS50 for $40k let alone $100k, so my opinion (and possibly the owners on Carsales) may be a little biased.
