Check out the cost of getting it trucked to Long Beach (CA) where most of the west coast shipping guys run out of. It's often cheaper to organise getting it to their depot, rather than attempt to contract a freight co. to ship from interstate (door-to-door service).

We did that with a car from Minnesota, and the tow (on a semi) was $800. Shipping companies wanted an extra $2K to do "door-to-door" on it.

As a matter of interest, how did you arrange a secure hand over of funds.

Ring Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics. They opérate rôllon roll off ships a round thé World.
They do opérate out of Galveston 50 miles fromage Houston and may be able to Link with their service to Australia which load from Florida. Remember John Howard réfugiées and a ship called thé Tampa. That is a wwl vessel.

We did it with an escrow service. It was 2002 or so - before Paypal took off.
The shipping company actually suggested it to us. The escrow people took something like 2.5% commission.

I bought a caravan from the US a couple of years ago. I used OzForex to transfer the money. As said in a previous post it could be cheaper to have the car transported to California and put on a ship there. If you can fit the car into a container it is cheaper than roll on/roll off for shipping. I used a shipping agent in Las Vegas. He arranged the pickup and delivery to the boat and everything happened by email. You will need a shipping agent for the arrival into Australia to arrange clearance for the car and all fees (gst, customs etc). They do everything that is needed to get the car into Australia, but you will need to pay the shipping company port fees on the top of the agents fees.
Don't forget to arrange an import permit from the Dept of Infrastructure before the car leaves the US, the permit usually takes about 6 weeks..
Once all the paper work is complete you hand over you cash and you hope that in 6-7 weeks you see what you paid for in the flesh.
