Default So, Face Masks ......

Back tracking to tuesday when i was out for dinner with my son and my mum. So with the restrictions, yeah masks and all that jazz. My kid knows that being 11, its not mandatory, yet from the email i got from service nsw, for kids 12 and under, its still recommended. Anyrate, i had done the pre-emptive strike. So i asked my kid if he had a mask? He did, just a disposable surgical one, and he didnt like it. But i had bought him a blue reusable one with a pattern on it. Now my kid is an asthmatic and has had all forms of respiratory infections over the years, so i got him to wear his new mask when not at the sitting table. And the kid was happy with it. I think he thought he was cool or something having a mask that wasnt plain.
And he says it doesnt suck as much to wear as the surgical ones.
And my mum liked its style, not so much that it was blue, because blue is for boys. But i told her where from and how much, $6 for one $10 for 2. She'd be driving past tye iga anyway.
So speaking to mum yesterday, my kid made her buy a matching mask to his, so theyd match. But mum was more happy that she bought a couple others to match some of her outfits. And later on, speaking to my kid, he tells me his mum likes his mask better then the ones her work supplies. Which is odd, because regardless of how responsible of a purchase i make for my kid, she typically turns into a raging mole.
But my kid was heaps excited to tell me that he told his mum where and how much to get them and she wants to get 1 or 2 from there.
Considering its an item that is madatory and sucks. My kids excitement, thats worth it.

Timely post. I’m in the same boat as a couple of million other Sydneians now; looking for reusable type masks... Not even sure where to start looking for distinctive ones. Wouldn’t mind a hi-vis mask and also a blue or black paisley.

All the places i searched for reusable masks had them behind the counter. Im guessing theyre a shoplifting target. I got a plain black washable one from the chemist. Im not out to make any fashion statements, thats for sure. But, my kid is easily impressed, so his blue patterned one will take away most the complaining.
Even my local bottlo sells disposable masks for $1 a piece. I bought a couple to keep in the car, because its almost a given that at some point ill either lose/forget my black one, or be out with people and someone else forgets.
Im a tad suurprised that this week, ive seen less people then i can count on 1 hand not conforming to the new rules.

I’ve only seen a few non-conformists, too. Aldi let one in, I think he could feel everyone’s eyes burning him by the time he was done shopping. Kind of an effective but totally silent discipline.

Found these, say Oz made:

I’d wear a blue one with an AFF logo on the side.

Also would like a Snappy but they’re not doing it yet, or a Würth, or a T&E.

Genuinely surprised at the lack of market responsiveness to opportunities.

When in search of washable masks last monday, one chemist i went to only had dust masks. Now dunno if they do the same thing as multi layer surgical ones, the black one i bought has a filter you can slide out. And if i wanted dust masks, its easier to park at bunnings. Although i do see a lot of people in dust masks, but who havent squeezed the metal strip to seal(ish) around the nose, or have them upside down. But what i find funny, and with a mask on, its easier to laugh at people in public, people with young kids who try to do the right thing and have dusties on their small children, yet the mask is the size of the kids complete face.
My kid is easy to buy things like hats for and masks. He's 5 foot 5 and has a big noggin. So adult sized stuff for his noggin fit perfectly.

I was watching a summernats slam video on youtube. The presenter had a k&n mask on. I personally dont do printed masks, but maybe a k&n one. Do you have to oil them every time you wash them like the one in my car or my brothers sports bike?
Thats my sad attempt of making a joke.

Make your own. There are instructions on the net on how to make it. I got someone to make me one from an old Hawks scarf with the logo on either side. Came out really good, and would often get asked where I bought it from.

There were lots of kids wearing them in Melb too when they didn't need to. Kids are funny that way, I'm assuming they just wanted to be inclusive.

It wasn’t in Victoria, they stated a “fitted face covering”. I haven’t read the NSW legislation yet.

Nsw, its the same loose description, face fitting covering. But it does go a bit further into it being something able to provide the wearer protection against infection transferal.

There are print on demand sites where you can upload your own image and buy the finished product.
You could make a Ford whatever you want mask, for example like these.
If other people like your design you will make a commission off each one you sell too.
Just have to be careful with copyright issues or you will get taken down.
https://www.redbubble.com/shop/?iaCo...ref=search_box
This does work out more expensive but it is boring seeing people in blue surgical masks or plain black all the time.

I ordered and received a McLaren F1 one last year, came with a bunch of refills. I haven't worn it yet as i'm waiting for that really special virus to come along, way to expensive to waste on a common old Covid-19...

At first, Victorians weren't required to wear fitted masks, a balaclava, scarf was fine for a while, they later changed the requirement for fully fitted masks.

Ended up buying a box of 100 proper dust masks as I use them for work anyway.
Those two strap (around the ears) designs are a pain to keep on half the time.
Beauty of these ones are, they only have the single strap so fit nicely on a (baseball style) work cap peak I wear when the mask is not needed, saves me also from forgetting it.

So, tonight my mum was telling me, whilst at jaycar with my son, they were masked up, doing the right thing. The fuzz rocked up and went the establishment for breaches. I wasnt there, so no further comment. Well, only my kid has caught the jaycar bug.
Earlier in the week, my mum said the nursing home my grandparents are in say change your mask as often as you change your undies. I havent read that anywhere else, but it makes logical sense. Your mouth is the opposite end of your a hole, so thats logic enough for me.
So i bought my kid and mum new washable masks.
So at dinner, id given my mum the heads up to not butt in.
I layed out 3 printed masks. 1 was the same print as the one my kid had and likes, but instead of blue, its black. The next was blue in a different print. The third was brown.
So my kid picked the blue and black one. The brown one, i would wear, but i gave that to mum to give to her boyfriend.
Then i broke out the 2 identical 3 packs. Cant remember what brand, they were reputable. 3m or bonds. So both were 1 flat black, 2 flat white. And my kid took ages to decide. They were the same.
Anyhow. Whilst my mum likes to think she is all over everything. She isnt. Ink for her printer is too hard. Its called officeworks. But i called her when she got home and said, unfortunately she falls into the at risk category being heaps old. But for once she appreciated myself looking out for her.

I'm not sure if this post is inappropriate or not but .:4:. I've noticed a bit of hostility towards women in your posts fairly regularly. You always seem to take a moment to criticise them in varying degrees based on what your relationship with them is. It seeps through in your words whether you're intending it or not and it's going to influence the way your son is raised, and how he views and treats the women in his life as he grows up.

I obviously don't know your circumstances and I don't presume to, but I do know how tension and hostility between parents affects kids for life.

^^^ A similar thing has happened with the way my wife treated me and speaks about men in general and my daughter.

However I think taking it to PM would be best and not bring it up publicly in a non related thread.

Just my opinion of course
