I saw this in another article. If the rider wasnt wearing a helmet then he deserves all he gets. Its the law. If he ran a red light, then he deserves all he gets. Its the law. As for the 'push', I believe it wasn't a push but a tap on the shoulder to pull him over as the rider was allegedly trying to do a runner and fell over in his escape.

Im a cyclist also and there is no reason not to abide by the rules if you are on a bike. This bloke who was flouting the law makes us law abiding cyclists look bad. So he needs to cop this on the chin.

So the so called witness saw 2 to 3 seconds of it and reckons the cyclist couldnt hear his siren. How does he know that?
Because cyclists don't have plates some of them just do what they want, like this guy running red lights.
I'm not condoning the cop pushing him from his bike if thats what happened, but probably better than becoming a grease smear on the road getting hit by a bus when he goes through a red.

Yep we have to wear a helmet here in Australia, overseas I often do too. But it is nanny state crap that we have to at all times here.

Has anyone proved he ran a red light?

Is cop just another cyclist hating tosspot that thinks it okay to pour as much hate on cyclists as possible because he is a brainless neanderthal that hates everything not like himself?

Or is the copper innocent of all of the above and just tried to tap the bloke to make him aware, and said bloke might have been balancing on his cleats and thus easily knocked to the ground?

And yes number plates will make a world of difference too huh.... For god sake listen to yourselves. Let's have more rules too huh.... What's next, ban V8s too?

As for the cyclist, and the cop, both are innocent until proven guilty. Plenty of total tosspot cops, plenty of total tosspot cyclists, same as on here there are plenty of tosspot fordforums members too :-)

It’s silly not to wear a helmet as you could fall off and hit your head.

Oh he did fall off, lucky he didn’t hurt himself.

If the cop did knock him off his bike then I can’t say I agree with the risk factor if not wearing a helmet or running a red light was his crime.

To stop someone involved in a violent crime yes but not for the reasons given in this article.

Police "nail" hundreds of car drivers daily . This incident reads like wet dream for anti cyclist lobby :-) - cyclist pushed off the bike , splendid ....

This place is usually pretty quick to have a go at the Police when they abuse their power and do something wrong, but if it's against someone on a bike....apparently they're free to do as they please.

I don't condone pushiing riders off bicycles ,but if I ride without a helmet, run red lights and fail to stop for a copper that's trying to stop me, whilst riding a motorcycle, I'm in trouble,
This clown did the same on a bicycle so should be charged with the same offenses.

I remember getting caught as a kid not wearing a helmet, the punishment was i and a parent had to go watch a road safety video at some place in perth, can't remember.
But you stuff up and get caught, be a man and take it.
I would have done what the cop did aswell.

Is pushing someone off their bike for running a red light excessive force? Probably.

Is pushing someone off their bike while they are running from police excessive force? Probably not.

If the cop did give fair warning and attempted to pull the bike over multiple times and it was clear the cyclist was trying to get away, then by all means push them off the bike.

If you are stupid enough not to pull over for police after committing a traffic offense, you are either a criminal trying to hide something, or just stupid. Either way you deserve what you get.

This bloke has probably been riding around with no helmet and running red lights for ages (but who knows?). So maybe, maybe the copper has spotted him before and he managed to get away. Well Karma called as it always does and now he will think twice about running red lights and maybe buying a helmet. Job well done.

Well why should my taxes pay for some tosspot who refuses to wear a helmet but wants to ride on a road and falls off hits his head ending up in a wheel chair. My private health insurance also goes up as does our motor vehicle third party to pay for these tosspots to receive medical care for the rest of their lives. We need these nanny state laws as you call them to protect stupid people from themselves. Do you reckon seat belts are nanny state laws too?

The police don't run you off the road for not wearing a seat belt.

If this cyclist had hit his head and died I don't think you'd find too many fair minded people saying that the crime deserved the perpetrator being knocked off his bike.

No normal person would think twice about pulling over when the police put the sirens on.

He clearly tried to do a runner and was caught.

Cyclists have no visible identification, how else is he going to be intercepted?

Sometimes on a bicycle you have to go through a red light, because you're not heavy enough to make the lights change. Suspect this wasn't an issue in the inner city.

The rego thing hey. Well, driving a six cylinder I pay more rego than those in a 4 cylinder, so people with smaller cars should pull over and let me pass, or just stay off my road. I promise to bow down to those in the mighty V8s.

Not being there, I can't comment on what actually happened, but I suspect the truth is somewhere between the cyclist's point of view and the cops.

Love the way that everyone seems to blame the cyclist and praise the motorcyclist cop when no-one knows the facts yet. Yes there are some witness statements which seem to differ on some points. No doubt a full and thorough investigation will sort it out.

It's automatic "I hate anyone riding a bike syndrome" that takes over.

Closed minds...
