i have a mk2 escort ghia (My first car) and the reverse light is stuck on and i dont know why. (1976, 1.6L) anyone have any ideas.

Sounds like the reverse light switch is sticking on.

till you get it sorted take out the reverse light bulbs

There is a reverse light switch screwed into the gearbox near where the gearstick is located, but underneath the car. The wiring connector plug to it may have come loose and is earthing or your switch is knackered. If all seems ok there follow the wire (orange from memory) inside the car where it goes behind the heater box and up to the loom under the dash. If all ok you have wiring issues probably at your rear lights

also check your engine mounts. mine had a broken one which caused the driveline to twist enough to earth the switch against the body.

after working on it for many hours with a professional we found that the whole switch assembly had shattered in half. I have never seen anything like it, but the problem should now be sorted
