Question The mighty V8 versus the Inline six but a different make

Whazzzzup homies?

Question:
Some of you E-Series inline six n/a owners with 140rwkw or more, are you beating VR,VS,VT holden V8's? I can understand that our 140Kw n/a sixes are no match for the GenIII HSV's but what about just the stock standard 8's?

Has anyone with a n/a six out draged a holden 8cyl on arr ahhem privite roads, or a drag strip?

You don't need 140rwkW+ to beat Holden or E-series V8s for that matter. A 5 speed and decent diff ration would put you infront of most stock VN-VT V8s

My bog-stock EFII wagon beat a VR 5.0L, both autos, was damn close, not even a car length in it all the way to about 110. :

I had to pull over 5 mins later, somehow a hole appeared in the thermostat housing, leaked all the coolant out. Shoved a stick in the hole, topped up with water and drove home. :

it was worth it :

I have no idea how, but when my ED was auto, cat-back and Wade cam (baby 1004-114) went against my friend's VS manual Clubby with exhaust, I was with him all the way (sometimes in front depending on who got the better start) until about 130 when he'd pull away. I think I'd smash it now with the manual, and even more with a Unichip.

[The above didn't occur on public roads]

So you're saying that in theory if i pulled up at the lights next to a black standard VX, VY SS ute, i'm in with a chance with 150 or so at the treads? Must be too good to be true. (Yes i said in theory at the lights, not in practice as it is dangerous of course :S)

I would doubt it. They have 200+ at the wheels, against your 150. They can do low 6 sec 0-100. You will struggle to do low 7s. No contest to 100, and therefore no contest over the 1/4.

Yeah, unless you go up against someone who isn't a top driver, or against a 'slow' GenIII (there are a few of them, trust me...there are also a few very quick stock ones, they seem to have a very variable stock power output!)

If you have a good diff ratio, manual, and can launch/drive like a demon, it's POSSIBLE to beat a stocker early GenIII, but only really over a short distance, by the end of a quarter they usually hunt you down :S

What exactly is a 'good' diff ratio for someone who does a lot of freeway driving and has a loud zorst?

Yes that was a Joke. I did beat a VN SS though, and the guy even gave me a thumbs up :S maybe he didn't realise his car was supposed to be faster than it was.

With 150rwkw you should be atleast be able to hang with a LS1 till 120-130kmh, after that the LS1 stretches its legs and waves goodbye.

Yeh the early gen 3s you should be a little closer... but they are just a much faster setup.

I had a stock 6 speed 6L monaro run rings around me with about 170rwkw, so dont go cheering yet lol

You need manual and 3.45 LSD, it will make a massive difference.

put another muffler on to make the car quieter, and go 3.7 or 3.9s - you wont believe how good the car goes after that!

BOOSTDEF - the 6L HSVs are very very impressive arent they...It sucks! lol. All i can think is, if the current 6L are this quick, and an F6 can beat them...how much fun would driving an F6 be????

A stock 308 isn't exactly hard to beat. I remember an incident where we done an auto 308 VK in my sisters daewoo cielo shopping cart. But on the other hand my old injected 355 was a different story and would have cained my current EF 4.0.

I've been quoting figures all over threads and numbers don't tell the full story. The Daewoo/VK match up is a prime example. But you can plug your figures in with your mods and see where you might come out...
VK 5.0 : (117KW/1355KG)*1000 = 86 KW/Tonne
VN 5.0 : (165KW/1465KG)*1000 = 112.6 KW/Tonne
EF 4.0 : (157KW/1560KG)*1000 = 100.6 KW/Tonne

A good GENIII Holden Ute which i have driven gets to outragous speeds very quickly.

I would say you would need forced induction on your falcon six to keep up with a good genIII holden ute. They run low 14's all night long at the drags and always pass the stock R33 skylines in the last 150m down the quarter.

Torque is the most important thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
