Default $25million Sport Racing Complex In Adelaide

(ANDRA Head Office)

AN UNDISCLOSED consortium of wealthy Adelaide investors is ready to build a $25 million-plus motorsport complex in Adelaide.

Featuring a drag racing strip, speedway, race circuit and jet boat racing, the complex is expected to be up and running in about 15 months.

Spokeswoman for the consortium, Anna Micheel, said the three mystery investors were working with the Land Management Corporation to secure a site in the north or north-western suburbs within the next three months.

About 120ha would be needed.

"We''re hoping to have the first stage up and running within 12 months (after that)," she said.

A former manager of Adelaide International Raceway at Virginia, Ms Micheel would not name the investors but described them as "leading business people within Adelaide who are very passionate motorsport enthusiasts and definitely have the money".

Ms Micheel said the privately-funded hub would include a "business park" for supporting industries and could also provide "a service to the community" as a training ground for emergency service vehicles, driving schools and a concert venue.

"There is no other venue (in Australia) that can house the number of motorsport events that they wish to house," she said.

"It''s something that Adelaide desperately needs."

Australian National Drag Racing Association chief executive officer Tony Thornton said Perth, Sydney and Ispwich had top drag racing venues and a new complex would be built in Melbourne by late next year but Adelaide was missing out.

A drag strip in Adelaide would "link up the national chain", he said. Mr Thornton hoped the venue also would improve road safety by holding regular amateur competitions.

"There are lots of young people doing increasingly stupid things on the road and having access to a drag strip to have a go almost whenever they want isn''t going to eradicate it (hoon driving) but it provides a safer option," he said.

Since the opening of the Western Sydney International Dragway NSW police said illegal street racing "has been non-existent" in the area.

Unfortunately I think us South Aussies are a bit skeptical since Bob Jane's Adelaide International Raceway rumors have surfaced about reopening so many times before.

I would say that we are not holding our breath until the gates swing open and a sanctioned drag race is held.

Oh a skidpan and burnout pad would be nice.

Smile New Motorsport complex for Adelaide

As per benoxrs post in the SA drag facility petition thread..

Something we desperately need in our neck of the woods, and it sounds like it might actually go ahead..
I guess that'll be the nail in the coffin for AIR. Will put Speedway city out of action too.

I'm all in for it!!! It has to happen, they put an article in the Advertiser so they must be legit. I have already started organising a tougher diff for the Cortina. A killer engine for the XD when i get it home. And i'll also have the oppurtunity to be a crew member of a very powerful drag car.

They'll probably just buy out AIR and Speedway, since it's still the best place to have a Motorsport Complex, far enough out to not cause any problems but doesn't really take that long to get there. Also if they want racing on water, it's not far from the coast.

About time! Screw AIR and Speedway city, their efforts have been dismal to say the least. I hope this actually happens, Not like all the other BS stories we've been fed for the past few years.

Lets keep the name Bob Jane out of this thread as he doesnt have stuff all to do with this.
We dont have to worry about this not coming to Fruition as this is as legitimate as it gets, and on top of this the Barmera track is getting the green light to go ahead and continue to build there Drag Strip

We've been strung along with AIR, similar to stringing a shmacko along the ground in front of a starving dog, we need this more than ever but unfortunatley from the previous shenanigans I wont believe it until I see it

nah, it would cost them more to remove the asbestos and other crap that was dumped there for years than it would to build the complex.
which kinda sucks, as AIR is 5mins from my place.

I can understand the scepticism by some members here. Once bitten, twice......you know the rest.

Phil, do you know the approximate location of where this could be?

I was speculating with mates tonight that it will be between Virginia and St. Kilda. But no where near Mallala.

I would well imagine it would be out past the old AIR because of the Time restrictions in place there, speedway city cop heavy fines if they race past 11pm, hence on some nights races are cut short - or even cancelled to meet the schedule.

Dont forget with the new nothern express way being built it could well be 1/2 way between virginia and gawler with only 10 extra minuttes travelling time.

I bet my left testic......well, it will be built around the Port Adelaide area on the western side. It's an Industrial area, no houses for ages and more central to most!!

I'd just like to say sorry to that name that we don't want to mention who owns that raceway that we don't want to mention, coz once this goes ahead, too little, too late and that piece of blacktop ain't gonna be worth jack poo!!

I spoke to a couple of people this morning who have been waiting for this announcement for way to long, the word is 2/3 weeks and the site will be announced and it will have nothing to do with the existing speedway or drag strip. which is a good thing as this area is not good and its dictated to by noise/time limits.
One thing to remember with this project is its being privately funded so this means there wont be any set backs with hold ups by the government and all that sort of crap, and these guys want to build a motorsport complex that no other state has so we are going to go from the State with no track to the State with the best track.

Sand Drags.

My bet is the land located north of the Port freeway between Hanson road, Eastern parade and the Grand Trunkway. :

I don't care how far out it is built (within reason) as long as they build it and it's a decent facility. I will travel from Mt Barker to Port Wakefield if I had to for the opportunity to drag race in this state. It's still a lot quicker than driving to Heathcote that's for sure.

There is to be a protest at Port Adelaide on the Adelaide cup weekend in march. For a drag strip to be built in Adelaide. apparently the road where the cop station is located (dont know the name, live down south) is to be blocked off, and various race cars will be there as well as media people in support. The above footage is of a fledgling top fuel team. We hope to be able to bring this motor in a corvette funnycar. And do a startup.

The announcement will be made within a couple of weeks on the location, then the work will begin.
Little bit of inside info, keep listening to 5AA 1395Am in the mornings as there has been a fair bit of talk going on there.
There could be a Paint shop getting alot of business after this!
