Default Finally on the market

Well...today was a happy day. At lunch I recieved a phone call to inform me that my insurance payout was finalized and had gone through. About time.
So I've sat down and crunched the numbers. Well, actually, I beat them
up until a figure emerged that suited me....I wasn't about to settle for under 5k so I needed to shuffle a few things around.
Anyway, I have around 5,600 to spend. Dave (auslandau) has a P5 LTD that I WANT but, I might not be able to get. As far as practicality goes, I might desire something else...we shall see.
So. Main points.
-$5,600
-practical.
-comfortable.
-not a Holden
-ford(I'll go mopar if it's awesome)
I was thinking a Ute, V8 auto for towing and carting tools and tyres to skid comps in. On Gas and all that, if it was an XH XR8, it would have a bulletproof little windsor, mountains of torque, cheap to run on gas, ticks all the boxes.
But there are a billion options. So I want to hear of them. Lend me assisstance but DONT ask me to up the budget. Can't be done.
Thanks.
Naish.

you could buy a $600 POS to get you by leaving 5K then save like mad. you won't get much for 5.6K in a V8 on gas

That or buy an escort. Although that green valient is wicked, but I think it will go over your price.

cheapest way to get a v8 on gas would be an 'e' series, obviously wont be a ute, but there is stacks of V8 sedans for less than the budget.

Toyota Soarer, 1UZFE V8 Its also the first gen 1UZFE, so it has the stupidly over-engineered strong engine for modding potential

Be careful if you're thinking of doing the "buying a POS to get around in while you save" option.
I've had many friends do that and then they spend all the money that should be going into savings keeping that POS on the road.

This.
Just what I'm after. I'll watch that too.
Fairmont1998, that's why I'm not buying a POS. I won't go into the reasons why I need a car fairly soon, but fronting up rego, insurance and running costs on a POS could hamper any saving efforts . Let's just say that with burnout season starting, this car has to be burnout car friendly, tow and tool wise.
Mr beige, you're right but I'm a lazy bugger so cbf looking over old bombs.
Kristo, thanks mate. By the way I'm loving the Fairlane build, top effort.

Thats a good point, ok not a POS but there must be some decent small cars for $2k that you could buy...90's laser tx3 for example. Something like that.

Used cars are such a lottery, you could spend all your $5k and then the tranny blow in the first month.

No problems , you can also find them in 2JZGTE form as well, if you like twin turbo inline 6s.

They have some pretty cool gadgets too for their time.

Yep but it is just like an XR8 or XR6 with fake stripes and GT badges.......(with the same credibility with the same people)

With the P plate laws the "mid range" V8s are going through the floor in price.

You have the cash, go hunting for AU V8s. There are lots of them and many will be desperate to sell.

Utes will be a problem though as there are less of them and they usually get driven until even the plastic and windscreen goes rusty.

Its pretty much the same thing, the Lexus SC400 which that Soarer has the badges for is the same car as the Toyota Soarer. They where sold under Lexus badging outside of Japan.

Soarer is a grey import, whereas a Lexus SC400 is "Australian delivered".

Yes I know they are variations of the same basic vehicle.

But the difference between a BA GT and a BA XR8 with the premium brake package is????

ahh no its not, SC430 was the first Aust delivered 2 door Lexus in Australia all SC400's and Soarers are grey imports.

Even then they were only sold as a Lexus in the US so any RHD versions are just a badge'd soarer ;).

you are correct in other regards thou, they are bullet proof and with a cheap S/C conversion will be a low 12/high 11 proposition.
