Gday all,
I have a completely stock stereo in my Focii, and have just picked up a sub from a mate who pulled it out of his car b4 it went to the wreckers. Its a Blaupunkt ODsb 8000A Active Subbox. Apparently it doesnt need an amp, just needs power (obviously) and the remote cable from the head unit. Q is, how can I hook this up, and am I wasting my time. I cant find anything other than price reviews online about it. Its One of those things I grabbed and then thought.. "hmm can I use it, or will it collect dust like everythink else at home" Thanks in advance for the help

there are a number of ways it might work,
now i havent searched for that particular model and i dont know what ur friends setup was. He may of been running it directly off the HU in his car. Was he using an aftermaret head unit? Now to connect it, making the assumption it has an in build Amp, what you need to do is buy yourself a LPF - Low Pass Filter - About 20 buck roughly. then wat you do is find some speaker wires from your rear set of speakers if you could (could always locate them off the HU if you wish) run them through the LPF and into the sub. The LPF will ensure that you get Bass from the sub not trebble. Power wise you will need to buy yourself a 2ch wiring kit from any audio place, connect the power to the battery and then more than likely wire it through the rubber gromet in the firewall and up to the sub. Keeping in mind that this is all based on the fact that it has a built in AMP.

That sounds exactly what his set-up was. It was a standard head unit (Commo).
Do I need to split the rear speaker cable without cutting right thru it, or is that what the LPF does? Will head down to Strathfield car radio over the weekend and get the bits and peices! Thanks for the help!!!

yes you will probably have to split the cables and cut into them,
whilstyour at strathfield take the sub with you and ask them. if it was a standard HU you want to be making sure it has an amp for best performance, otherwise it might sound quite dull.

Can you get your stereo out?
Try this - (might only be for the SONY unit, but worth checking) Leakey

Thanks heaps for the help, and thanks Leakey for going to the effort of finding those diagrams, but that is all waaay to difficult for me :P
I used to sell Home AV gear, and can hook that up blindfolded, but when it comes to cars im too nervous about touching it! Let you guys know how I go at strathfield!!
