Why is my electricity bill so F@#$%$#$#$%ing high?
This is for a storage shed:
15 kWh @ 19.4100 c/kWh $2.91
Service to property $30.36
Ambulance cover $26.58
Sub total $59.85
+ origin green BULL SHHHHHH $0.18
Late fee???? $12.00
Grand Total $75.38 for 15 kW in a storage shed over 89 days

THIS country sucks a$$ what a bloody rip off thanks Peter Beattie and Anna Bligh $300 to power a storage shed (per year) use to be able to run a whole house on that

where is my wage rise eh

USE $2.91 worth of electricity and it costs me $75.38

If the account is in a storage shed, do you have power to your house as well? You only pay the ambulance cover on one account, so that would reduce it by that amount at least

I don't think that's the point iggypoppin, there's plenty of people with high elec bills
but the OPs point is that it cost him $75 to use $2 worth of electricity

Going solar for a shed isnt viable, youll pay a lot of money for little return.

Depends on what he's doing - if it's just for lighting or such then solar is a great alternative provided you store it in batteries

What sort of current demand is needed when you do use the power? Are we talking lights? Fridge always running?

Say you disconnected from the grid and used a generator while there? (assuming that when you are not there, all appliances are off and no current is drawn).

Power prices will continue to go up, and perhaps the generator will pay for itself after a few years?

if its only for lighting id cut the power off and run a small generator. can get small ones pretty cheap now, yeah it might take 12-18 months to pay for it self but at least your not paying $75 for $2 worth of power...

Be thankful you don't live in NSW.

I don't know about city folk, but here in the bush I pay 22.12 c/kWh.

Service to property $83.38 (and seeing as we have a separate provider for Gas thats another service fee)

Ambulance cover, that's on the car rego.

Oh, you forgot GST on you total

Your with Origin. That is half the problem. When it went private in QLD, Energex customers went to either AGL or Origin. They are the default retailers and paid for that. They is also why they are expensive. Move yourself to a non-default retailer.

his power usage averages at 7 W so I am assuming there is minimal peak load if this is the case you can get cheap DIY solar systems that would fill the bill. the panel would only need to be small and even if you have a short term load of 1 to 1.5 KW you can use a larger battery bank and inverter

just add some batteries and you have 1 KW of power for $650 plus your batteries

I know you get voltage drop over distance...
But I would be running some overhead wire.
16mm sq XLPE can run 200m easy with two poles...

If storage shed is not far from house (same property) cost would be encompassed in home power bill for whole property. Guessing this is a rented storage shed or shed on piece of land somewhere. Can't rock up to kennards or whatever and whack up your own solar panels.

Sounds like a rip though, I'd be taking a good torch and maybe a converter thing for the car if need to plug something in with a mains plug (cant be running any too serious type equipment on $2 worth of power a quarter).

In QLD instead of paying ambulance cover separately. Everyone pays it on there electricity bills. Just how they do it.

The "service to property" is a connection charge. Remember that Energex/Ergon has spent considerable money (ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars) to put in the electricity meter (the cost of one electricity meter alone is around $100 wholesale), low voltage link pillar, low voltage power lines. As an exercise, have a look at the electricity infrastructure that has been installed just to supply your shed. Now, run down to the local Haymans and price the components. Next, do the maths on how long it would take to recover these costs with just $2 per quarter income.

Yes, the connection charges are expensive. It is specifically designed to deter people from having uneconomic connections to the network. (Which your’s clearly is!)

So, either put up with the charges or buy a generator (around $850 upwards for a good 2KVA) or install an isolated solar power supply (around $8000 for one that can run isolated from the electricity grid).

[Edit: While you are down at the generator shop, tell them that you want to pay it off at the rate of $2 per quarter and see what type of reaction you get]

Tried that, as it is on another property to the one i pay at home they don't combine them......just have to get the ambulance home from the pub

Just the floro lights a radio and the occasional power tool...im going to use battery power have cancelled the connection - but they probabaly won't actually disconect it for a while
