Angry The Car Gods must hate me.

I cannot believe this, I picked up a brand new car for the missus and 2 hours later I had to take it back to the dealership's workshop as the air conditioner doesn't work.
Apparently there is a leak, possibly a faulty air cond. hose.

Makes me wonder if these dealerships bother doing pre delivery inspections.
Something like this shouldn't been missed that easy I would think.
Now I'm driving a loan car until they fix it.
If it was a secondhand car I would have checked it before I handed over the money, but wasn't expecting to happen to a new car....lesson learnt.

Not happy at all.

Yes - same thing happened to me. Bought my GT brand new, and thought might as well make the most out of the dealership and get it delivered to me (at work).

Didn't really check the car over - until I came home from work and noticed that there were scratches under the rear bumper - like someone didn't realise how low the car was and had backed it over a high curb and scratched the bejesus out of it.

I think we're lucky we can actually take it to a dealership - rather than like you said a secondhand car or even a private sale - where they have a right to say "Not my problem".

Sad to see this happening for anyone buying new especially . With used it is more of a risk of course . The really disappointing thing is the excitement and anticipation of a rare new car is lost and ruins the whole enjoyment of it .
Warranty alleviates the financial factor but the inconvenience and let down sucks when a thorough pre delivery vetting by the dealer should eliminate all that .

Re the Colorado .. Been seeing a way too frequent it seems of Colorado engine issues , mostly of excessive oil consumption , some as much as three litres per thousand kays from brand new . that's a worry .Just imagine if the person was one of those ' never check anything between services' mob and the engine starts to starve of oil after a while . See ya ,engine before too long .

Here's another issue for a brand new Colorado . Not so much oil consumption but oil /fluids loss this time . Should never happen with a brand spanker .

Seems that dealearships don’t do pre delivery inspections.

Way back in 2008 i purchased a new FG XR8 from the Geelong dealership in Vic and after picking it up and arriving home i had a slight burning odour coming from the car and i put it down to exhaust and engine bay paint burning off.Driving the next day at the local shops i returned to see a pool of coolant underneath and found the bottom radiator hose not sitting in its groove but up and out against the crank pulley. The actual odour the previous day was the rubber hose being cut and letting go the next day.I took it to the nearby dealer and not surprisingly they had no stock of a bottom radiator hose for a 5.4 litre V8 that had been in production for 4 years. What i took from it was that the engine was installed in the factory with the radiator hose not in its groove as it is a tight fit and it could not work its way out and it missed two quality checkpoints, one at the factory and one at the dealer.

Close, a Hyundai Elantra. I'm guessing they have the same running gear etc. as Kia is the sister company.

Either that or this mob was pretty careless, I mean how hard could it be not to pick that up?

My family bought three other Hyundai's previously with no issues and from the same dealer so it's a big disappointment.
Looks like it's gonna cost the dealer some business as well having the cars serviced elsewhere. Not excepting this carelessness.

Buy Japanese, they have a different culture when it comes to building cars.
Their workers actually take pride in what they do.

Put the XB GT in for brake pads. Needs ball joints, bushes, idler arm, etc. Good one Ford - car hasn't lasted 43 years. No wonder people buy Asian cars...

Most people wouldn't know which 'japanese' cars are still actually built in Japan though

Tell the dealer you're bringing in for the recall.

It even happens with BMWs. My nephew bought a brand new one and a relay decided to start smouldering in the short drive home from South Melbourne to Richmond.

Don’t worry, I do this too. You’re older than you think, and 20 years ago isn’t that long ago anymore!

I think jap crap was more of a 70’s and 80’s thing.

I know of a sprint 6 that didn't make it home and the engine dropped it's guts.

Jim's lasted a couple of days before doing the same.

It can happen to any car and what warranties are for.

But still, we need lemon laws in this country.

Definitely can happen to any brand, sometimes a lemon gets through.
My best mates sister bought a brand new VW Golf (or Polo?) GTI back around 2015 I think.
After 2 engine replacements and constant electrical faults (totally shut down on her on the freeway once, thank God she was in left lane and could pull into emergency lane), she finally went back into the dealership and left the keys and books on the DP's desk and said they can just have it back.
They finally came to the party on a trade-in value for a new Tiguan.

I don't know this for a fact, but I believe in the US you can get a full refund on a vehicle within a certain timeframe?
Unheard of here, but would definitely be welcomed.

Maybe a bit far-fetched, but could probably result in more new car sales if people knew they had an out if they needed it.
I know when I go to Bunnings I always end up buying things I don't need, knowing that getting a refund if they dont fit isnt an issue. Problem is, I never take them back

Re the shutdown issue ....A teacher at the school I work at bought a Tiguan brand new and had exactly that happen several times before she re traded it on a Toyota Corolla.. I wouldn't touch a new VW or Skoda with a barge pole even though they're nice cars . Just too common occurrence and documented (engine shutdown) to have any real faith in them I'm afraid.

I rate Hyundai/Kia up there with the best of them, but I have seen 3 brand new i30’s driving along emitting a huge cloud of white smoke,2 of them were driving into a Hyundai service centres. Judging by the lack of Hyundai internet threads about crap service under warranty, I assume they fixed these without claiming they all do it.

my dad got a new red xd ute and when he went to pull out of the dealer the tailgate fell off and skidded down the road sans vehicle, they ended up putting a Nissan (rebagged xd) tailgate on it for a month as they couldn't get a ford stamped one in a timely fashion.

not a car but I was talking to a guy just today who bought a brand new yamaha wr450f in 2011 (2012 model, first efi model) took it home topped up the fluids and hit the starter and "bang" big hole in the case. never even ran (yes i know they test them at the factory), they made him wait 3 weeks for a replacement engine, after it was delayed three times they gave him another new bike off the lot.

Picked up the missus new elantra today from the dealers workshop.
Apparently where the air cond hose connects to the compressor, wasn't sealing properly due bad machining, so they replaced the compressor.

Although the dealer apologizes, the greedy mofo's never made an offer for their careless mistake.

That's another mistake they made. 3 of the family's Hyundai's will get serviced elsewhere.

Also made my new car experience displeasure known on Hyundai's facebook page.

That wouldn,t be correct because badge sharing didn,t happen until the XF ute around 1988.Even then all the panels were the same, only difference was the glued on plastic badging on the tailgate, front mudguards and a different grille.
